I really love the Peranakan Baba Nyonya (Chinese) culture.. Apart from Baba Nyonya, there are Peranakan Chetty/Chitty (Indian), Peranakan Portugis/ Kristang (Portuguese) & Jawi Pekan or Jawi Peranakan (South Indian Muslim+Arab). Although the Peranakans are strongly influenced by the Malay cultures but they are not Muslim like the Malay, except for the Jawi Peranakan. Baba Nyonya are mostly Buddhist, Chetty are Hindus, and Kristang are Christian.
It is indeed a nice wayang to catch up with family! I am proud to be one even though it is just celop (half) blood in it! It is really rare to hear any peranakans speaking Baba patois anymore especially my generation. I still can speak Baba Patois with a balance of english and dialects while my mum is not peranakan excepted my dad.
Thank you for sharing this. I am probably only 1\8 peranakan...I do recall all the innudenus n the mix of languages... I can see to put English subtitles is not a good thing as it lose the manner of speaking in peranakan...
@@elshiadianita8112 my Mama who was Indonesian Nyonya never allowed us to use “gua” and “lu”. Always “saya” and we use “Mama” or “Papa” for “you” when speaking to them.
Ini Bahasa Melayu loghat Baba Nyonya. Cina Peranakan mahu bercakap Bahasa Melayu sebab itulah tidak ada masaalah perkauman diantara orang Cina Peranakan dengan orang Melayu.

I am a true blue Nyonya. We don't use 'saya' in our speech. That's a Malay word. We use "gua " and "lu ".
true👍👍
Tapi 'saya' ada kata-kata arus, kah? 'Gua' ada kasair?
In Indonesia, there are "gua" and "lu" too. Batavian (Betawi) accent. But these words are considered as rude. "Saya" is more neutral and more polite.
Orang tionghoa di tempatku biasa bilang kita orang untuk saya atau aku hehe

Hadir...
Betul cakap nak 'see broken' macam macam perkara.
Confirm the translator cannot pick up the accent.
This is pranakan singapura
Jatuh macam 'nangka kering' tak berat angkat dan tanpa getah.
I wish there are subtitles, it would gain a bigger audience
Sama macam nenek gua
Beliau suka duduk 'HOME ALONE!' di rumah sendiri.
Baba malay a unique creole
Swee
Sorry dah...tanam 'money plant' bila bila nak duit.

Laki ke perempuan yg tua ni😅
is cross dressing part of nyonya culture? there seems to be a tendency of males dressing up as females in media representation of the baba nyonyas...
Yes, it's actually a part of our culture. Because back then women weren't allowed on stage.

Belajar tinggi jangan jadi 'coloured water' atau 'siak chwee' nanti warna sombong hilang terus...habis!
