    I have seen Gabe's Australian videos. They don't strike me as very representative of the places he goes. More like viewing Australia through a keyhole. He seemed to sleep most of the day and then went out exploring late afternoon and missed most things, arriving late, as things are closing and the light is fading. He also limited his ability to miss any unfavourable weather and seemed to find very expensive places to eat. His adventures lack any planning, which appears to be by design, but I am always thinking of all the things he missed. How can you be walking past Sydney Harbour and not know what it is? Lots of pictures of buildings, alleys, garbage bins and mud, which seemed to contribute to his impression that it looked like any other place in the world. An interesting perspective, I guess.

  • @FredPilcher
    @FredPilcher Před rokem +5

    The bird is an ibis, or a bin chicken. The only things they destroy are garbage bins. Kookaburras look like ostriches? Man - he really needs glasses! The Outback Steakhouse is as Australian as Mom, baseball, and apple pie.

    Gabe is always in a hurry, and misses a few things, but he has places to go and other things to see, that's just his way! 😁 He's a bit exhausting, but does good footage! 🥴 If you want to go to the Antarctic you have to go to Hobart first to catch one of their boats! 😊 This is very instructive, I thought it would be useful to you! 👍 Good to hear of your healthier diet, just throw in some ginger! 🫂

      I've been watching that Gabe guy, constant whinging about prices. He stays in the cheapest hostel accommodation and compares cost to Asia. That's why he spends weeks in India and only a few days in Australia- he's full of it.

    • @jenniferharrison8915
      @jenniferharrison8915 Před rokem +2

      @@joanneburford6364 Yes, quality and convenience costs, research is very important, Australia is far cleaner than Asia, our wages and costs are higher, ask a local for advice, try to be happy and be in the moment - that's what I would tell him! 😊

    • @joanneburford6364
      @joanneburford6364 Před rokem +1

      @Jennifer Harrison watch him closely, he's constantly making backhanded comments - quite nasty and misinformed. For someone who has travelled for decades, he's apparently not done any research and sleeps in until after lunch. Two things that an experienced traveller normally doesn't do. He responded to one of my posts and didn't answer my questions about comparing prices to Asia, just went into denial and said he was enjoying himself - he's full of it.

      @jenniferharrison8915 Před rokem +1

      @@joanneburford6364 Yes, I noticed a couple, very observant! I know he didn't check quite a few things, or didn't care! For Dar's purposes he was helpful with travel details, but he's really not my sort of person! I'm enjoying watching One Pack Wanderers, they are a lovely people!

    He's looking at a pic of an emu when talking about the kookaburra (cook-ah-bahrah). The Australian plug is used in Argentina, New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and a few other Pacific island countries. The angled plug gives greater stability than the parallel. If he's going on to Fiji, he'd need an adapter anyway. The universals we have here work all over the world. Perhaps they should call their adfapters Northern Hemisphere not universal adapters.

    A general comment (or question) about how/why Americans say "lay down" when they mean "lie down". Looking at older movies, they never used to get this wrong. "Lay" is the past tense of "Lie". When he says "I was able to lay down" he actually means "I was able to lie down", that is, unless he was laying an egg or laying a table (or his girlfriend).

    Australia has three time zones, so it depends on where you are for the time differences to SE Asia. Bangkok is 1 hour behind Perth, 2.5 hours behind Darwin, and 3 hours behind Melbourne/Sydney (East Coast).

    About phone plans. In australia we have lots of providers but Telstra has the widest national coverage. Thing is their long range and remote towers only work on their sim cards so if your travelling outside major centres and some smaller towns you need a telstra phone because they monopolise the coverage.

    It's wise to check the phone thing, so you know what applies. When Swedes go abroad, we call for the same rate throughout the EU, but as soon as we go outside, it becomes insanely expensive to call. What most people do is that they don't call or answer the phone, but just keep in touch with those at home via Whatsapp or social media when they have Wifi. I made a short phone call to Sweden from Turkey once "Tell mom I'm on the plane in Turkey and we're leaving now. Gotta hang up, it's expensive to call" was basically all I said - that call cost me $8

    26:00 Universal adapters for using foreign plugs ia Australian type I sockets are
    easily found in supermarkets and many convenience stores and Hardware stores.
    and are inexpensive no more than $3 USD
    I have at least 10 of them in a draw.
    Most of these adapters are cheap Chinese crap.
    High quality adapters are more difficult to find - because people do
    not wish to spend too much money on them.

Deliberately doesn't show decent hotels and sites and constantly talking about the high cost of everything compared to Asia. He was in India for weeks and decided to do a last minute drop by for a few days here - seriously 🤦‍♀️

    Gabe is a bad travel guide, he always misses the best options and in Sydney his main thing was to prove the notion that it was very expensive, he would walk past cheap options to choose a tourist rip-off. He is obviously very left-wing because he chose to feature alternative areas like Newtown rather than nice areas of Sydney. He is always sleeping most of the day and is desperate to have a beer!
