As a metal drummer myself, i will purchase a chau gong...sound very raw and brutal man...
I play a 22" wind gong in my drum circle. I like because I can choke, or mute it to various degrees. I place it between my legs, standing or sitting, and can control the amount of ring, muffle, and mute. This allows me to play it like a real instrument, and not just for making noise. No other gong can give you that much control.
It's also very good for meditation, with a very subtle, gentle sound.
All four gongs are so interesting
I love the Java and Wind gongs.
Thank you for this. I had no idea how big this gong niche was, but I’m hooked now.
Thanks for this video. I had no idea there were so many to choose from but you made a task much easier. I refuse to yell through the house when dinner is ready, we don't have an intercom system and got the gong idea from the dressing gong on Downton Abbey.
I'm so glad to have seen your video. Thank you for educating me in the realm.
The Chau gong is the hands down winner for me.
I never thought gongs could be so versatile, dope.
Well, now I am familiar with the term gong bath!
I like the Javanese gong the best. It doesn't have the "clash" sound that the others have. Honorable mention to the Chau gong. It makes me want to binge-watch some Bruce Lee movies.
If you haven't seen the videos on the 80" Paiste Symphonic gong, I'd recommend watching (and listening with headphones). The sound and sustain is astonishing. Standing near one is like getting a full body massage (including your internal organs). ;) Thanks Kalani!
Would you recommend the 80 inch gong for an apartment?
@Shepard Hudson yea, I've been using Flixzone for since november myself =)
Could you imagine lifting that thing?!?!?! #liftwithyourlegs, am I right?
@@davidmcaninch4714 In the unboxing video it takes 6 big men to lower it onto a dolly :-)
@@anonagain and the 6 men lifted it on to the dolly, and they most likely lifted with their legs. Coincidence? I think NOT!!!! With that said, I wash my hands of this weirdness.
Symphonic gong has the most versatility and all are unique
The joke at 12:49 was so ridiculous and I loved it
Learned a lot
Thank you so much for this video
Awesome, I always liked how those small Thai gongs sounded. Unique sound
I saw a band live once who brought out a gong. It was really big (I'd guess around 30 - 40 inches) and they only played it once at the beginning.
What a discovery: my name is also a type of gong 😂😂😂!
😁👍
😂😂😂
Doesn’t “chau” mean “little” in Manderin? Like a nickname?
From Hollywood. Almost live. It's the Gong Show.
Thanks! Just learned that I want a javanese- and the chau was cool.
chau gong, hard mallet, towards the outside, firm hit. Hell, yes!
Though I must say, with a softer mallet, I love the sound of the wind gong.
The waver of the Javanese gong as the sound decays is just extremely intriguing.
They all have different qualities-not better, just a variety
Amazing! Thank you!!
Hello Maestro. I preferably like the more oriental asian gongs.. not because I'm asian but because the harmonic from the asian gong is much more compare to the symphonic. It's like if you hit it once and let it ring... it produce a nice harmonic "dialogue" within the gong.
Hi Aden! Yes, there are so many sounds within the sound.
Javanese Gong is the best
I have an idea for a movie.
Gong with the wind.
How about: "The Man with the Golden Gong", (starring James, James Boing) "Gong in Sixty Seconds"..
Thank you! Tell us more.
@@warpnin3 On Golden Gong
Love that Cars tune, "Since you've been Gong."
That's Kelly Clarkson
And “Blow’n in the wind (gong)”
Thank you
Great informative video, thank you for sharing your knowledge! Would you be able to advise where to get a Javanese gong? Love this sound. Thank you in advance xx
I have seen similar Malaysian & Balinese with the 'nipple' ... would they be the same deep resonating tones do you think? any knowledge you can offer would be appreciated Thank you xx
Good stuff
When my mixing spoon hits the stainless steel bowl, I get some interesting gong sounds
Jaye P. Morgan just GONGED you!
All of these Gongs are amazing
However the Javanese has to be my favourite
Please please do a video on hapi drums very low mid and high frecuencies
As someone who like to play multiple instruments....I'm digging these lessons
I have a large copper paella pot I wish to turn into a gong... 10-8-2021 will update here in 1 year
Link?
22 inch javanese gong got da mista beater
Love my gong
This is very helpful. I am looking to purchase my first baby Gong, I have found two brands: Arborea and kingdo. They are much more affordable than Paiste or Meinl, obviously in these times of crisis looking for cheap to start practicing. What is your opinion to this? Also what do you think about the quality of sound of Arborea and Kingdo?
Sorry, I’m not familiar with those brands. Go by the sound. Choose what you like.
Please trying to find out what all/each gong metals are used thanks!!!
Javanese gong: *sounds
CZcams subtitle: ahh yes a laughter
where can i find this javanese bong yo??
I cannot get over the term “gong bath”
I want to start doing sound baths, also educating about the history of these instruments like gongs that can be used (as well as cultural appropriation). It's great how people can enjoy these sounds and learn about percussion too! I just want us to be careful about misinformation on health claims and history.
Yes, It’s important to not misrepresent yourself or the instruments. Glad it was helpful
Wow!!!
Gong sound has got similar sound to Tam - Tam?
Where do you get the Javanese gongs like this? Mostly I see the other three types for sale.
Last one looks like a gamelan gong, which usually come in a large tuned set.
Like this one:

Could you put links on where we can purchase these?
I would google them. There are so many options.
You just dated yourself by mentioning the Gong Show. LOL
Fact
I keep waiting for 'crazy train' to start playing.
Hey! I have a question that I was hoping that you could answer. Why do I absolutely hate the sound that the gong, bell, steel pan, etc. make? I even hate hearing music boxes! Everytime I hear these sounds or a similar sound, I get a feeling that I cannot explain. If I am exposed to one of these sounds for a longer time, I even start to cry. Can you please help me?
You should Google "misophonia" sounds like u might have it 🤷♀️
Gong gong gong
Gong, gong, gong gong gong!
"Hello, viewer, I know you were watching videos on a totally different subject, but I just thought maybe you might want to watch a video about gongs."
Better than that short CZcams story on how to artificially inseminate a dog
Gotta love CZcams algorithms “I’ll go rhythms”
Thank you very much, if you can post a quality soundtrack, a bit long, with the incredible sound of this wonderful instrument. I find it beautiful, but I find very little on CZcams that allows me to vibrate with you: Please Thank you!
could be nice
I sometimes create custom videos for my patrons: patreon.com/kalani
Thanks for this demo. I'll be honest and say all of these gongs are capable are far more than what you're showing here.
The Feng gong will sound best when beat directly in the middle.
Feng = wind (Shui = water)
I would appreciate this type of demo for all the huge variety of mallets and especially rubbing techniques, which bring out many many surprising sounds, from any gong, any size
The bigger the GONG, the bigger the mallet baby! 😁
typo, I was looking for BONGS
Had no idé gongs was a cult thing thank you YT. Was only looking for one insted of having to screem that the food is finished for my children. Javanese would probably be perfect, even if they are all nice!
Chuckle Baby!!!!
I have a 30" Wuhan gong, love it.
that gongs are from Indonesia
Did you say that gong was made in wuhan? Where have I heard that name before? 🤔
Haha I thought the same thing 🤣 uhhh maybe you should’ve left it in wuhan
Same...eek!
D
I made 2 from tamberines someone gave me
I didn't know guns were from Indonesia
Symphonic Gong Chau Gong Wind Gong Javanese Gong
✌✌✌
This channels turned into a gong show...
FIGHT!
the javanese has the best sound
8:23. That Gong isn't the only thing that was made in Wuhan!
Now bring on Gene Gene the dancing machine.
! เค้าไม่ได้เรียกฆ้องครับ เค้าเรียกโซวล้อ ฆ้องนี่ ใช้กับวงกลองยาว ส่วนโหม่งใหญ่กว่าฆ้อง
For those watching to learn about playing a gong: you shouldn’t touch the gong with your bare, oily fingers. Also should use the mallet to mute-not your hands. ❤️
The javanese instrument here is a kempul, not a gong. To be called a gong it would need to be about twice as big and at least an octave lower. And that instrument is really not in tune; it should have a very clear pitch and almost no clanging in the high end.
Hey teacher. That’s a tam tam. A gong has a nipple. Hope this helps.
JAVANESE BALINESE IS IN INDONESIA!!! WHY DONT YOU MENTION THAT!!
Two words: ear plugs!!!!!!!!
bummed to see this dude just slamming on these gongs. would have appreciated slow resonate strikes. no one plays a gong like this.
ill pass on any Whuhan gong, really bad for business
Chinese is good, but Western make it too long sound, harmony too much.
The sound of these gongs ought to be forbidden by the Geneva Convention, the way bagpipes are. It's just too overwhelming a sound.
