    Question. I bought a 500w inverter. When I first plug it in to a cigarette lighter socket without a load, it reads input at 12.3v and output at 120v on the inverter LED screen. However, I plug a laptop into one of the standard outlet sockets and the input voltage drops about 2 volts to 10.2 and the inverter starts screaming. I plugged this into my other trucks cigarette lighter and got an input read of 14.1 volts and when I plug the laptop into it, it drops to 12.2v and there are no alarms. Is the issue that the inverter I bought is too small for the load or is the first vehicle just not able to keep up with the demand? The laptop charger says it's 248w.

    Hi, I don't know anything about electricity really except for I will not touch any open wires. And I probably get electrocuted screwing in the light bulb. But I am buying pallets that includes ceiling fans and ceiling light fixtures and I need to test to make sure they work before I sell them. And I was wondering what equipment do I need in order to connect them up and test them in my storage unit? These do not have the type of plugs that you can plug into a wall outlet. It's just stripped wire

    From the CarCare Nut channel. He says a alternator is not designed to charge a very low battery. You must put it on a battery charger. It will shorten the life of your alternator. If you just run your vehicle to recharge it.

      @zachmiller9175 Před rokem

      @@davemontano3790if you can plug it into a standard outlet it uses less than 2000w, you can't get more than about 1800w out of a 120v 15a outlet. 4000 peak is more than enough for a refrigerator, they have a spike in draw when the compressor starts then pull a few hundred, maybe 1000 watts tops while running.

    • @dmcd7333
      @dmcd7333 Před 16 dny

      Yes, a 2000w inverter needs 2 awg on the back terminals for battery hookup. If you are using 10awg on the AC output side and the cord is 50ft, yes, that would cause a voltage drop due to resistance of the length of cable. Hope this helps.

  • @GoatZilla
    @GoatZilla Před rokem +3

    Overvoltage is spec'd at 15-16.5v. Would have been nice to test that. Low voltage cutoff spec'd at 9.5-10.5v. Would have been nice to test that. I'd imagine the only reason to buy this big a unit is to try to run a power tool which is largely inductive. Would have been nice to test that. Apparently there are 8 40a fuses in there. Are the fuses hard to get to?

    I wonder if the little inconsistencies in the sine wave on the inverter is the result of it being a stepped wave or perhaps it uses a digital chip to create it.

    I have the 3000 W. And put under load from jump Street it wants to crap out. It's a true sine wave I don't know why he thought that was the first one. Personally I think they're all crap If I have known at the time I would have bought something way better I thought because of its size and what I thought I'd be able to handle something but they are not as good as id hoped

  • @quickquote1568

    These cheap high frequency, transformerless inverters have a short life expectancy. Especially when powering inductive loads like full sized refrigerators, large power tools, portable AC units or large microwave ovens. The reason for this is that all of these lightweight, high frequency inverters lack a very critical component. That critical component is an iron core, copper wound output transformer. Without an output transformer to act as a buffer to absorb the electrical surges provided by the “Flywheel Effect” inherent in the physical amount of a transformer’s iron, these surges and damaging reverse voltage spikes must be handled directly by the inverter’s MOSFET transistors, essentially shortening their life. You might be able to start and run some high surge loads when these high frequency inverters are new, but every time you fire up one of those inductive loads, you're shortening the life of the MOSFETs in these inverters. To make things even worse, lightweight, high frequency inverters run much hotter and their internal components are far more stressed due to their high switching speeds and use of high voltage components, These two factors makes the low cost, off spec, Chinese made components such as capacitors, MOSFETs, diodes, resistors and ICs that are used in these inverters, far more prone to early failure. Simply put, high frequency inverters are better suited for like duty, electronic devices, and low frequency inverter are better suited for heavy duty, high peak power appliances.
    Another major consideration with many of these lightweight, high frequency, transformerless inverters is safety. First of all, high frequency inverter don’t have Isolation between the Neutral and Line which increases the risk of a shock hazard. And second, during a catastrophic of the failure of the inverter’s circuitry, all it would take is for the AC output monitoring circuitry to fail and one of the MOSFETs in the inverter's H-Bridge circuit to short to ground, and these high frequency inverters can send dangerous, high voltage, high amperage DC current straight to your connected AC loads which will not only damage most AC appliances but can also set those AC appliances on fire.
