The song is about saying goodbye, but I don’t think it’s a final goodbye. When I first saw/heard it, I told my gc that it sounded very much like a farewell song, but after talking about it, it’s more see you in the far later. I think they’re all at different stages and paths in life and they have to wonder down their own roads before those paths merge back together.

I'm not even a VIP but I have never seen anyone dethrone them as the kings of kpop. No popularity contest/record sales can convince me otherwise... 2nd gen era was the best. I got teary-eyed when TOP removed his mask, all he did was stare at us straight in the eyes and it already meant a thousand words. I miss their voices, I miss their presence, I miss seeing them make magic through music. Bigbang was part of my youth. This song just hits home.

BIGBANG's music was with me for my high school years during that crazy time. Now I'm figuring life out as an adult, so just as much as they're saying goodbye to their youth, it feels like I am too.

As far as what the sets mean, this is what I got out of them:
Taeyang's set is Spring. With the bible verse behind, the crashed ship, and the *lamb (Side note, a lamb also suits the new beginnings and bible verse) and comfortable way he's sitting, it's like he's telling us he's grateful for the ship (VIPs) that took him to his new Life, his Spring. He's content and happy and grateful with where he is.
Daesung's set is Autumn. Somehow, his is the saddest. His lighting is darker, it looks like he's in an old house/museum looking into rooms he used to live and work in. He never really goes into them, just looks and turns away. I think he's telling us he misses the way things were, but he understands time changes everything and he can't go back.
GD's set is Summer. As you mentioned his scenes are full of things that look like stage sets, or MV sets. He's got colour all around him but it's muted. He's the least ready to leave it all behind, he wants to perform, he wants to be in front of the audience even if he's gotta do it alone.
And then there's TOP. His set is Winter. He's on a snowy planet in exploration gear, gazing fondly back at the Earth, with its people and lights all lit up. I think he's telling us he's exploring. He's been exploring, and at the end of the video he's walking towards the Earth, which is lit up with lights from civilization (VIPs reference again, like GD?). It gives the feeling that he'll be back on his own, hence leaving the label, to share with us what he's explored. His being Winter tells us of a hibernation, a preparation for Spring.
TLDR I think Tae is happy with his life without performing, and grateful that performing gave him that life; Dae is remorseful that it ended, but not exactly ready to keep going either. More just... reminiscing; GD hasn't STOPPED, and isn't READY to stop, and doesn't know if he even CAN stop performing at this point; And TOP has been hibernating, but wants to show us the changes when time turns to Spring for him again.
Editing to add: I do agree that DS could be Summer and GD Autumn. Initially, I had them that way myself, especially because it's in the transition order. However, looking at their meanings, the words they're giving us from their hearts, I feel like they're switched. Whether intentional or not, the mood the two are giving is different. I definitely support the idea of DS being summer and GD being Autumn though!

I think daesung is summer, and GD is fall. they also transition that way: from taeyanf to daesung to gd to top. GD also has autumn colors all over him, including his hair that looks like autumn foliage
GD basically breathes art, literature, and music. He would be dead inside if he ever stopped doing what is essentially his soul.

I am unsure about the other members' activities, but T.O.P has said he is releasing a solo album this year, accompanied by a film. He said that during his time in darkness, he had made 100 songs to help him through it. And that the album's songs would be pulled from that 100. So please look forward to that and support him. He is still hurting and still needs love.

GD's longing of the glorious times. Dae was walking away from his young self. Tae's in a beautiful scene indicating where he's at with his life right now. And TOP is in his own winter, away from them with a mask, probably ashamed and taking it off to start anew.
What confuses me is that GD and the other 3 are still in their glorious times, regardless of the past scandals. I hope he doesn’t feel that he’s lost that adoration from the fans, because he could still sell out concerts today. People’s opinion have come around for both GD and TOP I think

He had a photoshoot and an interview with Prestige and is talking about his own solo album. Even in this MV, he's talking about anger, not shame.
@@koriskifamily2575 TOP's admitted to having mental health struggles (to a very serious degree tbh). He also said at one point that he did not want to do a comeback. Considering what the lyrics to his rap are, I imagine his aesthetic and that are entirely related to those events.
it actually makes a lot of sense to use Still Life as the song's english title.
"Still Life" - in art is a depiction of something that doesn't move.. much like what BIGBANG has went through for the past few years.. they were inactive, no new releases or public appearances as a group.
i dont necessarily think this is a goodbye song.. its more like them (a group that has not moved for a long time) telling us about their emotions and reflections going through what they all went through for the past years that they were inactive..
That's how I felt, that this was their way of sharing their feelings on all the controversy. But I'm hoping that they will continue to move forward

But for now he wanted whatever he likes to be, make a solo debut with his own company, making wine, making art. Everything he loves the most. And his Instagram account said, he still in big bang activity whenever the times match. So yeah we gonna wait again 🙌🏻 probably reunion songs, due he will absolutely busy with his company

I was 15 years old back then, being their biggest fans, falling asleep with their songs smiling or crying. And here I am 15 years later married with kids. If this is a goodbye song/end of their group it makes me feel like the end of my youth and changing from young girl turn into a wife and mom
The fact that the song "isn't long enough" feels in itself like a poingant metaphor for youth and for life. It leaves you reminiscent and yearing for more.
The fact that there is no chorus also leaves us feeling that something is missing. Like Seungri is missing.
Even though it hurts, the song is perfect. It's a masterpiece.

I could feel the hurt in TOP's words and that solemn tired expression he gave was so hitting! God, I feel so sad listening to this. The music is so beautiful yet heartbreaking. It shows that things HAVE already changed and now, no matter how painful, it's time to move on. I just really hoped they'd all be together in at least one frame in the video - I guess that not happening itself shows that for them, this journey is over, just four empty chairs left. It feels like goodbye and it kills me. The song is beautiful and the emotion behind it is so bittersweet, but the fact that it feels like goodbye in leiu of TOP’s departure and the imagery of the 4 empty chairs, it feels gut wrenching and heartbreaking. Your analysis brought that to my attention, and I wasn’t crying before I watched your review, but now I’m sobbing.
I’ve been a VIP since 2011ish and big bang has been the one and only kpop boy group that I truly love, give a shit about, and stan. I want them to stay together and continue to make amazing music- I feel like GD has so many more bangers left in him for him and his boys to make, so many more stories left to tell… but I also just want them all to just be happy. If this was their last song together, I’m so grateful; this song was such a gift. I just love big bang so much…
I love their sound, they have sooo many bangers, they bring the most INSANE energy and talent to their live performances, they’re easily the MOST swagged out group while also being so cute and hilarious on the inside, and they have some of the MOST ICONIC voices in all of kpop. So cool, so swag, so distinct- but they don’t rely on being pretty even though they’re definitely all super fucking hot in their own right- like there is not a single guy out there who ISN’T gay for TOP. Like. Being gay for TOP actually makes you straighter LOL that’s just how that works. They’re simply the best. No understatement. G dragon is a consummate master and a genius; the true genius behind most of their songs. He’s my one true husband. Absolute swag overload, but a kitten on the inside, androgynous king, fashion icon, trend setter of trend setters. Totally obsessed with him like his millions of other fans lol.

It's interesting that you clocked the "la la la" reminding you of their debut song, even if it wasn't intentional, when at the same time I felt reminded of Hey Jude, which I think was the last single by the Beatles, which adds another layer of sadness. I especially missed TOP so much. Seeing his face, just...man.

This is exactly what’s on my mind. What makes me sad is when they had their last concert before hiatus, they were very hopeful and will try to comeback as soon as they can. TOP even said in MMA 2015 when they won the artist of the year, they were on their 10th yr that time and he said he hopes bigbang will continue making music in the nxt 10, 20 years. Pain really changes people.
The biggest mystery to me still is what type of performance they wouldve put on for Coachella 2020 and if they wouldve done a comeback and promotion around that time period to ride the coachella momentum or would it have been a farewell comeback too 🥲
To me, I feel bittersweet about this song. Saying goodbye to youth, to the old "glorious" days, to the happy memories is something quite heart-wrenching, but at the same time they say "we have matured, life is still ahead and we will keep on going" and I feel happy about that. With all they have been through, seeing them moving on relieves me. We still have a long time ahead, and let's hope to see them on stage together again in the future.
Daesung's is one of my favorite voices in kpop. There's just something about his voice, it has a way to pierce thru.

TOP's rapping is so unique that many idols have tried to imitate it but his flow is only his, it's his trademark and I'll always come back to him whenever I hear others do the same. And yes, the way he went into the verse of GD is so perfect, like how I always imagine it. GD&TOP are the best duo ever.
It is a goodbye song to the old BB but this song n mv concept is a masterpiece nonetheless. It retains the DNA of the original BB and yet is a gorgeous piece of work showing their maturity and future individuality. I will always be a BB fan.

Listening to the lyrics, I don't get that this would be a goodbye song. I think it's goodbye to their youth and goodbye to their past but also hello to a new version of them. I don't know what the new version of them will be, but I think we'll be getting more from them.

The second the song started playing it just hits. It doesn't take 30s for it to settle it, it hits straight away. You feel nostalgic and you feel their pain and that's such a beautiful thing. BigBang have this ability to make you reminisce and live through the emotions they experienced. They always nail every song, and as much as this feels like a goodbye, we all hope that it's just a goodbye to that still chapter and hello to the next season
I didn’t know them in their prime nor their history. I feel that even non-VIPs or non-Kpop fans would still get their message. I was even emotional because it was beautifully constructed. It was very simple, but I saw their “colors” and current state of mind. TOP and Daesung really have beautiful vocals and visuals.

I think part of it is the fact that you never see them in the same shot, together, and I think that was on purpose, especially with that shot of the four empty chairs together. It seemed like an acknowledgment that they've drifted apart to do their own thing but that they still remember, together, what it means to make music as a group. It's very bittersweet.

Bigbang bought me to KPOP in 2008 with Haru Haru. I'm VIP and was always with Bigbang through out their journey. I'm so happy in 2022 i was able to witness their comeback. There will be no kpop group like Bigbang and that's fact.
Although T.O.P's scenario seems to make no sense, he's representing the Rabbit from the tale Daltokki (The Moon Rabbit).
For those who don't know the tale, it goes like this: in a village once lived a Rabbit, a Fox, and a Monkey who often played together.
They were said to be very loyal to the Heaven's Great Emperor, and to test their loyalty, the Emperor himself decided to come down from the sky disguised as a beggar. When he got to the village, he asked the animals each to bring him something to eat. The Rabbit, the Fox, and the Monkey were very generous and agreed to the beggar's request. Each animal returned with their offerings: the Fox brought fish, the Monkey brought fruits, and the Rabbit, being small and weak, was only able to bring back all the grass he could gather. Very ashamed at his feeble offering, the Rabbit told the beggar to start a fire with that same grass. As soon as the fire started, the Rabbit jumped into the flames in an act of self-sacrifice so he could become a meal to the beggar. This act touched the heart of the Heaven' Great Emperor so he pulled the Rabbit from the fire and as a reward, he placed the Rabbit in the moon to become its guardian and surrounded him with smoke as a reminder of the Rabbit's sacrifice (that's why the moon is grey).
This tale represents sacrifice, rebirth, and longevity.
My take on this is that T.O.P is pretty much saying he's the Rabbit. Like, he gave his all for his music and fans. He pretty much sacrificed himself and almost died in the process because he never felt he was good enough. Whatever he did never seemed to be good enough. But that's it. The past is in the past. The nostalgic feeling will always be there, and T.O.P might even miss the old days, but he's moved on, and he'll keep living for a long, long time.
However, it's still sad because you can feel T.O.P isn't there by choice. He'll make the best of it and become better and better, but he was forced into that place and when looks at the camera, it's impossible not to see the anger, the sadness and the disappointment in his eyes. He wants to give a piece of his mind, but he's tired, and it's not even worth it. His voice won't reach the people who need to hear the most what he's got to say :(

I may be seeing too much into it, idk. But we know how BIGBANG's MVs are full of symbolism and meaningful, like those four chairs representing the members: Seungri's chair is a little crooked, nevertheless it's still there bc he'll always be part of the group no matter what people say.

I have to say. Seeing their music video and this video has always left me in the verge of tears but your comment was the one that finally broke me and now I'm tearing up.
I feel that, out of all of them, T.O.P. had the hardest time dealing with his fame, with his truly unfair "scandals" and overall mental health. I can see the parasocial side coming out in all of us, but his story resonates with so many of us in some way that we can't help but have these feelings and a sense of understanding for each other.
I just hope he's okay and happy man, however many small steps that may take.

I also think their sets each represent a season, but each season is reflective of where their individual career is:
Taeyang is Spring. He's married now and if he were to retire now to focus on family, he retired after a long, successful career. His recent comebacks were well received and he is still widely loved.
G-Dragon is Summer. He's arguably still the hottest member, with the most leeway to continue on a solid idol career. Still beloved and any comeback he makes would be a hot topic.
TOP is Winter. Due to various things, he's probably the least popular member in terms of the Korean public. He's out in the cold essentially.
Daesung is Fall. He's not quite as hot as G-Dragon as he's never had quite the same solo success, but he's also not out in the cold.
When you see the four chairs together, they're in a neutral area, not any of the seasons. The background looks like winter, perhaps due to scandals and what not, but that's behind them now. Hopefully, we see them all together again, but for now, it's a see you later.
In my opinion, TOP is winter because he went through depression. The last 5 years for him was the darkest time of his life as he said in his recent magazine interview. After the scandal, we never heard from him. He just disappeared from the public eye dealing with the trauma on his own. He recently admitted he tried to commit suicide. Winter kinda gives a very cold lonely feeling. And that is why he is winter and is in another planet, away from earth, away from the prying eyes. I also thought TOP is the least popular after the scandal, but as what I have observed, his fans never left. He is still stronger than ever. I watched korean reaction videos, and they still love him. They cant deny his charisma.
Taeyang Spring.. but look at the boat...the broken boat now full of beautiful flower.... in the past he have pass tru the broken heart for their group's storm.. ...and this is after the storm... the flower blooming..
Daesung is huge in Japan lol

I agree that all of Bigbang's songs are so good, the lyrics of their song seems to having deeper meaning than what may seem initially. My favorite is Taeyang but every single one are awesome and each of their voices are are unique. Their voices always complemented each other, never clashing or competing with each other.

I don't think I can ever watch this music video without crying. Big Bang has been with me for 10 years since I got into kpop. Throughout my youth, my young adult life, so much.... When I realized what this song was it shattered a tender part of my heart.
The reason why there's no shot for them four together is four-season would not appear at the same time! When you expect that your youth is back but you can't believe that your youth is saying goodbye to you.😭

I discovered Bigbang when they were already in the military but the were one of the first groups I really loved. Personally I saw this song as more of a goodbye to their previous era as Bigbang, as 5 members, as welcoming themselves back but acknowledging that it won't be the same as before.

My K-POP journey: TVXQ got my attention first because of their existence in Japanese music industry. At that time, I was Ayumi Hamasaki’s fan. That is how I started to know K-pop. Then, “Lies” was the song really getting me into K-pop. I soon became Bigbang’s fan. I LOVE their ballads so much.
I interpreted each member as representing a different season. The most obvious being TOP's set which is very similar to winter. And this ties into the goodbye of the song, because seasons never meet each other.

I only started listening to Kpop 1 1/2 years ago, so many 3rd gen groups are still not all that familiar to me and 2nd gens even less so. So Still Life was actually the first song by Big Bang I listened to and the first MV I watched. From the first few secons their voices blew me away! That hardly ever happened before, twice I guess, but never with a group and voices I didn't even know! There is something SO incredible sad about this song, they had me in tears. And still do with every single listening. Melody, lyrics, voices, MV. Everything is layered on each other beautifully. Without having known any of their history while listening, it really made me think that them and in that case V.I.Ps went through real painful times....For me and my battered emotions there was not a single doubt it was a goodbye...But I really hope it's not the forever type. I HATE that I only found them now.

I am not a fan of Bigbang nor do I never listen to their songs, but after seeing the MV and listening to the song I was just so hurt, it really feels like I have known them through this song. it is just so heartbreaking.

this is what drag me to bigbang too, the power of emotion and nostalgia in their music. the first song that i really like from them is BLUE. it was always played every morning in our local tv station and every time i hear it, i feel like i’ve known them for a long time, like i’ve lived the emotions of the person in the song, like i’ve lived in a different place and time. try listening to their other songs too, for me all of their songs are non-skippable, even their japanese and solo songs.
As soon as I saw TOP my tears could not be stopped TToTT .. He's all alone on the moon--its snowing and its cold. He seems so lonely. He's looking back toward Earth and civilization as if he's remorseful, sad, frustrated --wanting to come back--almost as if he's asking if there Is a way back--if he can come back--if we can accept him.
When you pointed out the "la la la" part, I cried. It hit me so hard.
I started to listen to KPOP around 2008 and Big Bang was one of my favourite groups from very early on. This comeback is extra emotional for me beacause it reminds me of that youthful vigor but somehow laced with nostalgia. Big Bang really grew into artists way beyond pop music.

I hope to god this isn’t a goodbye song. 😭I need to see bigbang live in person one day. I grew up with their music and they were what brought me into K-pop. Idk what I was expecting but I was absolutely not ready for this song. It’s the first time I was ever speechless after watching an MV. I was so emotional, still am. These guys have done so so much for the K-pop industry. I’m just so glad bigbang exists. Their music is truly ❤️🔥.

I've been a fan for 10 years, I've discovered them with ALIVE. Overall I'm just so so grateful that they came back one more (last) time, this song left me with a bittersweet feeling, but it's truly beautiful, they can still deliver many different emotions so perfectly. For long time fans is definitely a powerful message and A LOT to take in.
I agree on 'it's a goodbye for now', towards the end they were all leaving, TOP disappeared completely, so I guess they're going on their separate ways now, and it's fine, this is how life is.
After what he has been through TOP definitely needed a change, and leaving YG to pursue his solo career seems the right choice (he said he's happy) so I definitely support that. We're gettin his solo album soon so that's good news for sure. He said he almost quit music completely but I'm glad that working on music helped him healing instead, so I'll look forward to whatever he puts out. All the others are incredible soloists, so I hope they'll release some music as well.
I don't wanna say BB is done for good, they haven't disbanded yet, but as TOP said it just might take a while before we get to see them together again as 'BIGBANG'

Among the four chairs, the one at the most right is broken, which represents Seungri can not be here with BIGBANG, with us. What makes me so sure about this is that when Daesung sat on one of those chairs, he chose the the third chair, as always. Because BIGBANG always sit depends on there ages, respectively. GD has his own chair. That 4 chair is for TOP, Taeyang, Daesung and SeungRi. Because BIGBANG will always have 5 people.

Bigbang is the pioneer in what Kpop looks like today. Their influence is still unmatched up to this day. They will remain iconic and legendary even after their retirement from the industry.
This song is definitely bittersweet. TOP’s part really hit me the hardest. His scene depicts him being in a far distance from the world (public) and just staying in his comfort zone. It’s like he alienated himself from everyone. Wearing a demon mask because that’s what the public tried to paint him as when he had a scandal. And when the mask was off we saw that pained/betrayed expression as he looked straight at the camera. From that scene alone we can already feel the hurt the he endured during those years.
Aaahh my heart is heavy. They do not deserve what had happened to them. But everything happens for a reason. I just hope that this is not a goodbye song per se but just a farewell to those dark times and a new era is about to begin.

TOP scene hit me so hard everytime. This is exactly at this moment i start to cry. This song is perfection and i really hope this isn't a goodbye song but if it is, i will accept and will keep cherish my journey with them since 2006.
If you look at this with closer introspection, take notice of the setting Top is in. He represents the Winter- pain, loneliness. He is in the snowy field on the moon, far away from Earth. This might be a metaphor to how TOP has been feeling alienated and distant from everything in his life- his fans, community, idol life, etc. And yet, we VIPs are still here for him... even with the Earth being hundreds of thousands of miles away, the twinkling yellow lights that you can see are us still supporting and cheering him...

He represents Spring- life, happiness, love and joy. This fits Taeyang's current situation perfectly: happily married, has a baby boy now, his albums are doing great, and just overall he is thriving. And us VIPs are with him every step of the way (notice how he is surrounded by yellow flowers = VIPs). But, even with this all being the case, he is shipwrecked... he alone is basking in this happiness, and none of the members are with him to share this joy.

I'm a VIP first before becoming a KPOP fans and that's nearly 10 years ago. I basically grew up with them, Big Bang help me go through the hardest time of my life, I'm agree with one of the comments that's saying hearing this song feels like talking with an old friends after a really long time
This song sounds like the four of them is catching up with us with all the things they've been through. For the time, for the memories, for everything that left unsaid for these past years
Especially TOP's verse. My God.. he said so many things with that verse. An apology, a goodbye also a promise to come back. It's painful but comforting at the same time
But at the end of the day, I just feeling so grateful that if this really is a goodbye song, then they choose to close it with us with no regret. But let's hope it is not and like you said PD, we also hope this is just their way to say "we'll come back again someday"

The design of yellow flower surrounded by TaeYang when he singing, looks very similar to when he performing on stage and surrounding by crown light stick, if you saw their concert pic before you will remember it.
About the chair, we believe the four chair is four members, DaeSung who sat at the second right seat earlier in the MV means that is his seat.
According to the sequence, the most right seat that is broken should be SeungRi's seat. The most left will a slightly scratch is TOP's seat as he left too.
GD's seat is the one with his name in his own scene as he is the ldr and producer all the time.
The four flowers, we believe is four members. GD's one is holding by himself in his scene.

I've been a fan circa 2009. Was introduced thru the song Haru-Haru and Lie and it was such a journey. Big Bang as you have mentioned if not the one, but one of the legendary kpop group of all time. They changed the game, set trends, and became an inspiration and model to generation to come of new kpop idols. They have set the bar so high that a lot of company also tried to follow their suit and mimic their success but Big Bang is so unique and so rare in this industry that they are just unmatched. Musicality wise they are 100 steps ahead in their game. Individually they are successful as an artist but together they are unstoppable. Kwon Jiyong, BinguTop, Dong Yongbae, and Smiling Daesung will always have a special place in my heart. I would say it is a Goodbye to their youth, A Bow to their Glory Days, a Thank you for the Memories, and A step to a New Beginning. Season changes but it comes back Full Circle and they continue to live their lives to the Fullest.
UPDATE: due to yge stocks going super high in price and there being issues raised on that, it has been confirmed by YGE themselves that this will not be the last bigbang comeback, they will meet us with more music SOON🙌🏽😭
I think you said it, it was literally breathtaking. I couldn’t imagine the thought of finally having them all back, I’m a super baby vip, I didn’t find bigbang or their world until 2-3yrs ago and Still Life is the first time I get to really hear their voice in actual time. It couldn’t have been more beautiful. It does seem like a goodbye, but I feel like it’s more of a goodbye to their past self and everything they experienced up until now.
and APPARENTLY, GD is working on a solo album, but YGE said Jiyong would put that on hold as a bigbang comeback was to be first, and on Daesung’s vlog he did say it would be a comeback single, and eventually a comeback album in YGE words… so let’s hope that’s true🤞🏽
"Haru Haru" was my song-that-brought-me-into-Kpop. I remember vividly how MBLAQ and BIGBANG pushed the boundaries more than 10 years ago, and seeing this is just sad, but the legacy remains. Just would like BIGBANG having a world tour as a victory lap, and then a goodbye, but the guys deserve to write their own story, and this felt like it. Cheers, PD!
