    Hey Lorrienn, I emailed you last week. Hair loss is such a hard thing to go through. I started noticing really bad thinning in April, I had a biopsy that doesn’t show scarring but nothing much the dermatologist can do since I was using spironolactone already and I guess it just stopped working. I’m trying to get to the point of acceptance. It’s just hard. But you’re right, it could be so much worse. I am with you on getting a wig, that is my next step! I’m glad you’re beginning to be able to accept all of this and just know you’re beautiful hair or no hair ❤

      They don’t know what’s causing the hair loss?! What about steroid injections??

    • @nicolehughes9534

      They told me it’s androgenic alopecia, but they had no way to tell me what’s causing it. I’ve read different comments from people who’ve said they’ve used spironolactone and it stops working after awhile so that is my only guess right now since I’ve had multiple test done (thyroid etc) and everything is showing up fine. I can still hide the loss pretty well for now but I did order a wig, excited to try it out!

      @@nicolehughes9534 I’m so sorry. I know that’s not what you wanted to hear, trust me I completely understand. It’s so devastating especially when they say there’s no cure etc. They couldn’t tell me what was caused mine either. I’ve been thinking about purchasing a bang clip in or something bc all my hair loss is in the front/hair line.

      @@nicolehughes9534 I believe that type of hearing loss is hereditary. They generally tell you if you are a woman to look at the males in your family like dad or brothers or uncles and for some reason I believe women end up with the effects of that. I could be wrong but I think that's what I recall reading about that. My dad did not have male pattern baldness and my brother was adopted but did not live past age 16 due to an automobile accident. But then, I'm being told I have ccca. I will not accept this, somehow I am going to get my hair back and I pray the same for all of you. Right, I'm going to be praying!

      First dermatologist I saw was against steroid injection. 3rd dermatologist was for them. I had 3 rounds. They didn’t do anything. So I’m not doing them anymore. Thank you so much for the recommendation! ❤️❤️

    Lorrien, stay away from the Plaquenil! I am also dealing with alopecia as a result of coming down with an Autoimmune disease known as Lichen Planopilarus. I am dealing with scarring alopecia and was put on Plaquenil; it messed with my skin color! And it made me real dark (hyperpigmentation). Not only does it mess with your eyesight, but it causes sunburn and photosensitivy of skin.

      Thank you so much for this. I have not gone on it. I’ve been refusing. I just haven’t felt comfortable about it. I’m so sorry about everything you’re going thru.

    Please stop the hair stamp and the rosemary oil! Frontal fibrosing alopecia is sensitive to mechanical stress.
    I've been on plaquenil for two months for discoid lupus scarring alopecia and things are getting better. The side effects are really rare (2%) and reversible anyway.

      @Lorrien you're welcome! I'm a med student so I've been reading quite a lot about scarring alopecia since my diagnosis.
      Plaquenil is safe and it works for stopping the condition from getting worse. It takes about 4-5 months to work though, as it needs to accumulate in the body.
      If you manage to stabilize it for at least two years, you can get consultation for hair transplant.
      If you have any question, don't hesitate, we're facing the same condition. :)

      Do you have scarring alopecia? Did you have a biopsy done on your scalp? Bloodwork? A different doc? I went through 3 doctors until I found the one I’m with now. She specializes in hair loss. I love her!

    • @sable7114
      @sable7114 Před 7 měsíci

      @@Lorrien no blood work, several doctors who specialize in dermatology, was told to take biotin and one time I was prescribed an oil to rub on my scalp called Derma smoothe FS. I believe it to be a steroid. With one dermatologist I did have the scalp biopsy and she told me that I had scarring Alopecia and then she gave the results of the biopsy to me as I was leaving and when I read it at home it also said that lupus and one other thing needed to have been ruled out and when I called her to ask her questions about this, she avoided answering them. She did offer steroid shots for 6 months at an extraordinarily expensive price per shot with doubt that it would work. I decided against them because she wasn't open with me regarding the other things that were in that report and did not go back to that practice. I don't know if I know where you live or where your dermatologist is. I'm on the east coast in the United States and would probably travel to just get someone who actually knows something about hair loss in women specifically scarring Alopecia.
