Between Mario Kart 8, Super Mario RPG, and now this, it seems like the music folks at Nintendo are just giving the reins to ridiculously talented musicians and letting them shred.
That Doopliss Appear track is so fucking good. I’m happy they added new parts to it.

3:11:05-3:11:58 This sinister theme is about something pure evil inside the thousand year treasure.
Never will complain about free music especially from a remade game, but an obvious examination is that plenty of the themes now are busier compared to it's predecessor; however, this game adds variety & removes plenty of the repetitiveness of 1 minute 30 second loopings of the original.
All of the dynamic battle theme changes are by far my favorite in the remake: specifically the updated original, Chapter 2, 3, and the Three Dungeons of the Queen (Pit, Hooktail Castle, and Poshley Sanctum). Underground Rogueport Sewers rhythmetic melody was such a beautiful addition that felt faithful yet refreshing in the loop. A great example, in my opinion, of a remake song done artfully.
'Peach & the Mysterious Map' was one of the few I felt they butchered in the remake. Instead of completely being faithful or creating a new melodic idea, they simply cut the big bridge towards the overture to repeat the main melody 2-3 times. The beginning with Peach & Beldam is still a cutscene too. Like many others, I also enjoyed OG Rogueport, OG Macho Grubba (Metroidass), and OG Title Screen/File Select more than the remake.
The debate between the two OSTs is ridiculous; they both have merits and no one would be 100% on one side. There are songs in both we like, and if I were to be incorrectly speaking on your behalf: please let me know why the other soundtrack is so much worse according to your ego.

Just wanted to let you know that every timestamp from BTL Normal etc onwards is wrong. Not sure what happened, but the farther into the video, the more off they become after that point.
I partially fixed it. It should be a bit better (~10 seconds off near the end). It would take a long time to fix manually but I might do this later.

Absolutely, I think Nintendo believes if people think it's a remake of a 20 year old game people won't want it, so they deliberately leave put the mentions of it being a remake in 90% of marketing

Does anyone else think the new soundtrack is just.... too much? It's layer on layer on layer. The original tracks were so much clearer in their instrumentation. Even knowing what the musical themes are I'm hard pressed to pick them out of the cacophony. I really feel like they blew it on this one.
Womp womp
I always found the music in the original very underwhelming and fairly forgettable, with a couple notable exceptions of course, so I definitely disagree. This remake actually makes the soundtrack feel much more impactful, especially the boss fights and more intense story moments.
A good example for me is the Shadow Queen's awakening theme, in this video it starts at 3:39:13. In the original, it weighed much more heavily on the "creepy" aspect which always underwhelmed me, as I felt it should be more intense, dark and dramatic. I don't feel like it's appropriate for the music to be as subtle as it is in the original there. I know many people will disagree with this, but it's how I feel. The remake version if it still keeps some of those creepy aspects, but goes much harder with a dark orchestral rock mix, which to me is much more fitting for a dark queen's return. It truly feels like if Mario and co don't win, a new world order of darkness and iron-fisted tyranny is about to begin. I find this much more fitting for the Shadow Queen, both as a force and as a character. She's not a ghost, this is a triumphant and powerful moment for her, and one of adversity and incredibly intense danger to us. I find that the remake version of this ost captures that very very well. I actually got chills hearing it in-game along with the cutscene.
There are a couple songs where I do think the original is better and the remake did mess up a bit, such as the crystal stars/the world giving Mario and co everyone their hopes, where they went too heavily on the guitars and the more ethereal and emotional aspects of the scene were lost, though it's still hype to me. But overall, I think this ost definitely slaps the old one.
Personally, I'm glad the orchestra went full ham with the remade soundtrack. These music and sounds are what I liked to imagine what the original sounded like playing the GameCube version.
