Do you need specific information about designing model railroad yards. Check out this video: czcams.com/video/YqkC0U7qjVY/video.html
Keep these tutorials coming. Looking for the 3D stuff I am having a hard time with that so far
There is little to no info or tutorials on anyrail past the General layout and settings. I am sooo stuck. Trying to do multiple elevation changes on multiple levels. I got fusterated and gave up. Tutorials in advanced would be great
This was absolutely helpful. I have just downloaded AnyRail and have been experimenting with it. I would really love to see more information from you Ron. I am modelling HO but it is very close to being the same except of course for size. Please do continue with your lessons on AnyRail. Fantastic job Ron.
Make more
Sir Ron, thanks for intro to AnyRail 6 and demo of N scale layout. HO scale is more common. Does AnyRail 6 have more accessories files than N scale? How about entering locos and rolling stock data to see fit and motion fluidity? Electric power schematic and placement possible? A finished layout animation would be optimal.
I'm using AnyRail to plan out my next layout right now. I'd love to see you do more in-depth videos about AnyRail and track layouts. Love the videos, Ron!
After more than a year of self-learning on AnyRail 6, the few minutes watching your tutorial resolved several issues I've had and shown faster, easier ways to do things. Since my layout highlights the differences in terrain the NYC, PRR, and B&O passenger trains encountered between New York and Chicago, I'm struggling most with transitioning smoothly between level track and the moderate to severe slopes encountered in the mountainous areas. Would love to see you create a tutorial on that.
As an architect who works with AutoCAD and taught it for years at college level, I must commend you for a great video! I actually just downloaded the program last week and running across this was very helpful and timely! Thanks, Ron!
Enjoyed immensely. I don't understand why software vendors don't create more tutorial videos with excellent teachers like yourself. It sure would make life easier. Looking forward to further coverage of this software.
Very much enjoyed this video. You covered well some necessary features of the software. I am interested in more videos of other features.
Two quibbles: 1 Move the shot from your camera to a location on the finished screen where you won’t be doing things in the Any Rail screen. Your cursor kept doing things that were behind the camera view. 2 You did some things that you didn’t explain. You did some things or moved some things that you then backed up to undo those things. You said that you were backing up ( or something) but you didn’t explain how you were doing that. I would like to hear you explain those actions.
I tend to use standard keyboard shortcuts more than the mouse that Ron did, and I think some of the things that you missed were probably done with keyboard shortcuts. For instance, holding down the CNTL and the C key at the same time will copy the highlighted objects into your clipboard. Then, CNTL+V to paste the copy somewhere else. I especially use CNTL+Z for undo. I use that one a lot! Accidentally moved something, deleted something, or moved or deleted more objects than you intended? CNTL+Z to the rescue to put them back. That new siding isn't working out? Use CNTL+Z multiple times will slowly undo it all one step at a time until you get back to where you were. Even better, if you use CNTL+Z too much, CNTL+Y will start adding stuff back in again.
Ron, that was a very good video for beginners like myself to Anyrail, i really could have watched you for another hour. And yes more like this, please.
I bought this and am starting to learn the software. One nice feature is there is a question mark all the way to the right in a blue circle. This brings up a browser to the anyrail website to the user manual. It was pretty helpful when I was creating a simple 24" x 48" set up with n-gauge. I went and bought it and then came back to make these comments. Thanks, Ron for making this and talking about this! This was really easy to use and I am getting better at it.
This is so perfect and actually crazy because right before I opened CZcams I was thinking about doing research on current software for track planning as Im about to start designing and building a new layout. I hadnt searched for any videos but your video about your north yard was on my home page so I watched that and learned a lot of great info that I never knew, even after building 6 or 7 different layouts since I was a littlenkid in the mid 80's. That was so informative that after subscribing I found this video and Im definitely going to try out the free version first even though it appears to do exactly what Im looking for. Back in the early-mid 2000's when I started my last layout, which was my first one where I actually was old enough, had the skills and most importantly had a good job that afforded me the ability to build a larger N-scale 6' x 16' layout with a 2' x 6' operating pit in the center that I had on one side of my garage. I tried using a couple different layout design software programs at the time but I wasnt very happy with either as they were confusing and didnt really speed up the design process much so I went back to my tried and true method of taping a few 8x11 sheets of paper that had the grids preprinted and drew the layout to scale that way, with each square being 6". After watching this video Im excited to start designing my new and very long awaited and much larger layout! Thanks for the great video!
I'm glad you found it helpful, and welcome to the channel. Good luck designing that new layout. Those are fun and exciting times.
Just bought this software about a month ago. This video comes at a perfect time. You make it sound so simple. Please add more videos, but keep them at the layman level.
AnyRail is great. I used it to design my layout, selecting the exact type of track that I was using, even placing scenery elements from the libraries. Once the planning was done I printed it out to a full size PDF and took the file over to my friendly UPS Store where they printed the full size layout that I could take back home to use for laying things out on my benchwork.
I am a newbie to Anyrail and found this to be well articulated, clear and concise. Together with your railroad yard videos, I was within hours able to design a layout with solutions to some very challenging problems. Well done, sir!
He's Exactly right to recommend AnyRail software. Dudes, I have Autodesk Civil 3D and know how to use it, and I STILL am thinking I need to just use AnyRail! No way am I going to question ANYONE to about using AnyRail.
Ron this was an excellent tutorial. I had all but given up on any track planning software because it was so difficult to figure out. You just helped me out immensely. thank you
I am just getting back into model railroading. I have moved from HO to N now to Z. I found the AnyRail software a couple of days back and I've been playing with it ever since. Your video has shown me a lot more and easier ways to design layouts. Thank you
I am interested in the different elevation and slope/grade features as well as manipulating the landscape to create water features.
Having been a user of AutoCAD and similar programs for thirty+ years, I like seeing that this program has layers control (a great tool to have), as are the vendor & user generated libraries. This looks real easy to learn and use. Thanks for the “nickel tour”!
Thanks so much for this Ron. I have AnyRail 6 and tried to use but got frustrated and quit. After watching this video I loaded it up again and tried all of the things that you demonstrated and viola,
worked just as it should. I then built several simple track plans with so little effort. Please show us more of how to use AnyRail 6. I think that this a great tool for modelers and I can see that
it would have saved me hours and hours of time designing my layout if I had just taken the time to learn it!.
Thanks again Ron and stay safe.
Thanks for your comment. I am so very glad that this tutorial was helpful to you. I am planning a whole series of shorter tutorials on other specific features of AnyRail over the next few months.
@@RonsTrainsNThings Thanks and can't wait! These videos will be very very helpful.
I have been working with AnyRay6 for some time. Your right about price, and ease to use. I'm building my layout and have printed each panel out as I progress with railroad. What I didn find out is that it is just about perfect as far as being right now. I really like it.
I’m not modeling in N scale but a lot of your videos apply to other scales like this one. Thank you for doing this video.
I just downloaded Anyrail and this was just what I needed to get started feeling comfortable with the software. Thanks for doing this and please do more,
Ron, Mike Fifer turned me on to AnyRail several years ago and I love it. I have designed many layouts with it; however, due to limited space, I used it to design my present switching layout, which measures 4 X 16 in the middle of my living room. Being able to order just the right Kato track has also saved me money. Actually paid for my AnyRail purchase. Nice video. - Scorpio
Hi Ron, Greetings from the UK. I have been a subscriber of your channel for some time now. I watched this video and felt compelled to comment that you are very good at Model Railroading. All your videos have excellent content and are very informative. What I like about your channel the most is that you explain things really well. This video is no different. As a newbie, I wanted to get an understanding of how to design a track plan and then translate that onto my baseboards. Thank you for imparting that knowledge. As a disabled guy, I struggled with clicking on the exact coordinates to create my surfaces in the software. I wanted to share something that I used to get my surfaces drawn up to the exact measurements. I used the floating ruler that is available when you right click. This helped me out immensely. I'm sure that you know about this feature and also realise that it is impossible to cover all features of this comprehensive software in a video. But I thought that this might be an useful tool for some of your viewers who face similar challenges as I do. Keep up the good work my friend.
Thank you so much for your comment. I am very glad you found the video helpful. Thank you also for the tip. I'm sure others will find it helpful, and I will try to work it into a future video.
It takes less than 5 seconds for me to get frustrated with any kind of computer program. I downloaded Anyrail (prior to this video) and tried figuring it out... five seconds later looked up your site, sure enough you had this tutorial. Now several months have past and I think I have more fun playing with Anyrail than I will building my layout (medical issues have held me back, but got the okay to start my build). If you're using the free version, you only get to use up to 50 pieces of track BUT as far as I can tell, unlimited number of plans you can build!. So, my "layout" is actually 5 different plans :D, showing the table top running from left to right. If you can, I'd advise buying the program, it's easy to use (even for me!). Even if you don't build a layout, Anyrail on it's own is a lot of fun to play with! I've book marked this tutorial and have watched it several times for reference. Thanks for teaching me how to use the program Ron!
Just found this video and it i so useful. I have purchased Anyrail and done what we all do....just dived in with no real idea. Now, having spent a very valuable 45 minutes I can go and get the job done properly. Thanks Ron, be great to see another video looking in more depth.
As always, your presentation skills shine in this video. You "flattened the curve" for learning to use this software. I hope that you will make future videos on using more of the tools included and tricks that you have learned. Thank you for your time spent making this video.
Purchase the license, it is very much worth it. I have used the software to plan a few versions of a layout I am getting ready to build. Maybe I can build one of them but I have to stop thinking of things I would like to have. BTW, that is me on the home page.
Ron, I enjoyed this video. I have used AnyRail for several and you reminded me about some features I hadn't used in a while.
Some suggestions:
1-Consider moving your "talking head" insert to the upper right, not much going on up there.
2- In Mouse Properties >Pointers for your cursor, increase the size of the cursor to make it easier for the viewers (and you) to see (I use the Windows Default (extra large)(system scheme), and
3- In Mouse Properties >Pointer Options >show the location of the pointer when I press the CTRL key (that way you do not have to move the cursor roundy-roundy to show people where it is).
Thanks again for a great video and I look forward to many more.
I’m at the early stage of planning a multi-level layout. I’ve downloaded the “free” version to try out AnyRail and plan to buy the $59 version. This video showed me enough to get started. Now, I would like to learn to add height measurements and slopes for grades I will need for a multi-level layout.
I am finally (10+ years of dreaming) to build my New River Gorge C&O n-scale layout. I've got 30' x 12' in my newly self-finished basement to work with. Anyrail Pt 1 was great, but I need more in-depth to explore benchwork and other power-user features. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, and providing us with a little taste of AnyRail 6. One thing you might want to consider is setting your taskbar to hide automatically for these tutorials. Obviously, you lose a little real estate with it remaining visible, yet more importantly, it can be distracting to various degrees for some viewers.
Ron, I've used AnyRail for two years but I thoroughly enjoyed your video. My use of the application has been very primary, so I learned several things with your presentation. I'd very much like more AnyRail videos and I know I'll learn much more!
This was an excellent video on AnyRail 6. I have downloaded and used it, but your video really helped expand my knowledge of the software and helped me to understand where I was having questions, especially on using flex track. Would love to see more videos on this subject, especially given your presentation skill is excellent, clear and understandable.
I absolutely do want to see more AnyRail videos, especially the decision making process of why you might lay out track in the way you lay it out, and the decisions of what industries to put into certain spaces.
I'm an amateur here Ron. As you went through different aspects of the vid I went back to AnyRAIL SW mirroring what you did. Yes, if you made another vid going deeper into the sw I would like to see it and learn. Thank you.
Thank you Ron for showing how to set up the Any Rail program. I had opened it up before seeing any videos and was lost. At least now I have a video to fall back on when I get stuck setting it up.👍👍👍
PRR Guy
I've been fighting to design my layout with Xtrkcad this AnyRail software shows me just how easy the learning curve looks to be. I'm downloading today. Thanks for the tutorial Ron.
Yes more please Ron. Been using AnyRail for a while but have not discovered some of these things.
Just getting interested in model railroading. Have been watching your videos continously. They have been a great help as I build diaramas to test my artistic abilities. This video was excellent as an introduction to planning a layout. I hope I can find more.
I'm only a minute and a half in, but I designed my switching layout using the demo version of AnyRail. Due to the limitation on the number of track pieces you can use on the demo, I had to design it in two parts, but I was really impressed by how easy it is to use. Enough so that I may soon pull the trigger on the full version.
Also, I decided to download the demo version of AnyRail because I decided to build my layout using Kato Unitrack. I already had two versions of RTS on my computer, but those limited me to using Atlas components - which are really hard to find right now!
Thanks Ron! This was a great tutorial. I wanted to get some track planning software but I was lost until I watched your video. I was fumbling around with this a bit and this made it much easier!
Thank you for showing me this software. I am a autocad draftsman and find this very user friendly. I am going to invest in this product. Thank you
Enjoyed this video and have been binge watching all your videos while out of work after rotator cuff surgery. Keep up the great work.
You just sold me on this piece of software. I've been kind of looking around at the different programs out there to draw up the layout we are building. I always enjoyed seeing the drawing in all the magazines of layouts and wondered what most people are using.
I hope you continue on with your series. I would like to see how you build the different levels in, and grades/elevations. Is there ways you can use this to draw and build control pannels for different industries and yards?
I also enjoy listening to you on AML, your wit and raising fits right in with the rest of the crew. Keep up the great work.
I have been using anyrail to try and get a track plan down for my first layout and the information in this video showed me how to improve my use of the software. I would definitely like to see more on this subject. An excellent video thank you Ron.
This software looks to be a very useful tool. If i am able to get back into model rail roading i think this looks like the way to go.
I use AnyRail and I'm pleased with what I know about it so far, but more videos from you would be very much welcomed as I'm quite certain you can teach this old dog some new tricks! Thanks!
Just want to say thank you! This seems to be much more usable than what I bought years ago. Wish Id found it when you created it three years ago.
Just starting with Kato N gauge (Yes, I'm a Kiwi) unitrack. Brilliant tutorial.
I'm an retired AutoCad user so familiar with a lot of the commands, however, need to more of the ins and outs. Thanks Ron. Good job.
I used AnyRail for an N-scale layout. I love it.I plan on using it for planning an HO scale layout. This video is helpful
Today, I m going to get down that program, and I would like to see more of your fantastic explanation of how to use the program. many thanks, Eytan
First episode and I've already found something new that I can use. More episodes would be great.
Hi' I've just found 'Anyrail' and looked for a tutorial to use, yours was the first (and last) I will use as you explain in detail everything that is needed to start. You lost me a couple of times with some technical jargon but I picked it back up. I have subscribed and look forward to watching more. Thank you so much for sharing
Welcome to the channel. I'm glad you found it useful.
Ron i have been playing with AnyRail but haven't paid for it yet. Please keep adding more on this subject. I have liked what I have seen but after this I want more.
Ron, you do make some great videos. This is by far the most helpful for me on this software. You do not start out thinking that we have ever seen it or tried it. I have tried the free version and was getting frustrated. Now I see from you on where I was missing things. Please do more on this subject. If I get another windows based laptop, I think that I will go with this software now after seeing this very helpful video. You do have a gift. Thank you
Perfect timing! I'd been looking around for the best layout design software to help build my new layout, and had already come to the conclusion that AnyRail suited me best but, as others have commented, there's a distinct lack of "How To" information available so your tutorial is a good start and is much appreciated. I'm comfortable with the (very) basics but soon ran into challenges with yard design, elevations, multiple layers, 3D etc. And there's doubtless other Advanced stuff that I haven't even thought of yet! So, the more AnyRail tutorials you can create and share, the better; there's so much to learn. Just bear in mind that "Advanced" is a relative term .... anything beyond "Basic" would be a good continuation point.
I should add that I've been following your channel for a couple of years and appreciate the easy, uncomplicated way you explain things. Keep up the good work :)
This is one I'd like more info on. Great job Ron. Keep up the good work!
Really well explained. Excellent tutorial. I've gone from unable to do anything to placing track on a baseboard in the first lesson.
Would love to see more videos about this. You answered two or three of my questions I couldn't figure out. Thanks!
Quick question, your video shows your grid marks at 2" and 12" on the same screen. How did you get that to show. Mine is showing just 12 or jut 2. Would love to see the smaller grid inside the larger. Thanks
Thanks Ron. I think I'll use AnyRail now that you have explained how it works. Thanks for your contributions to the community.
A great introductory tutorial on AnyRail 6 software. Love to see more videos on crossover track elevation, easements and helix design. I am also building a multiple level layout thus the need for designing inclines and/or helixes.
Great video, Ron. And, more anyrail tutorials would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Thank you so much. I would love more tutorials. Especially about adding track on a second height, overpasses and tunnels. Thanks Ron
I greatly appreciate the tutorial on AnyRail. It is a definite help in understanding how to use the software. Thanks
I have this on my computer and didn't realize how much that can be done with it. Definitely would like to see more advanced features using the program, but I will try to do some more playing around with it in the meantime. Thanks Ron for sharing.
I love using AnyRail. A co-worker turned me on to it and now I'm somewhat teaching him how to use it. Even got a few people that have used other software that have been in the hobby for decades to use it now. I love the layer feature and the community library of objects (buildings, bridges, etc.) And the fact you can add yours and share it. Designed my layout all the way from the ground up with it. The only feature that I haven't played with much is the 3D side of things. It would be nice to be able to create track sections (groups of track, IE main line, siding, branch line spur, etc) and be able to change the color of the track per layer.
Best Anyrail6 explainer video I found.
Wow, thanks!
Thank you Ron! As a newcomer to this software your illustrations make the application really come to life. I've watched this several times and come away with something new each time. Looking forward to viewing anything new you wish to publish.
Best Anyrail starter tutorial on CZcams. Would like to see more on this👍
Thank you.
There are several good videos on using AnyRail and Scarm, but this was an excellent intro. In future videos please cover elevations, 3D, bridges, and tunnels. I think those basic concepts would be of general interest.
Thanks Ron. Very Very helpful tutorial on AnyRail, Appreciate you doing these on AnyRail as you are giving us your time without compensation. I see you have 3 videos on AnyRail. Would love to see more to learn its full capabilities, particularly planning a double decker setup without a helix (an up ramp and down ramp connecting the two levels). I am a permanent subscriber and enjoy your videos. Thanks again from all of us watching!
Watched and enjoyed ur video on anyrail6. Needed something to use to layout my ho layout on paper instead of building it, then rebuilt it to rearranging track plan. This software will help me alot.
Please more tutorials, I really enjoyed your first tutorial on anyrail
I'm a new viewer and very impress with the video. I plan to review this video and tune in each Tuesday for others.
Thanks and welcome to the channel.
Ron, this is truly a fantastic video and extremely informative....please, please, please, more on the AnyRail system. You are certainly correct on the ease of use. I tried 3rd PlanIt and it just about drove me insane. Then when I looked at the price...well, needless to say, I wasn't interested. Thank You so much for your great videos and keep 'em comin'.
This is deffenitly going to help me design my layout.
June 26, 2021. Finally sat down and watched all of this after getting Anyrail6. Going to tip-toe thru program (and manual), but if you could do a 'next level' type video on this program it would be really useful. Luv your stuff. Dean
One of your best videos so far Ron. More on this subject please.
Great tutorial, please do more. I just purchased the system and it's so much fun.
Yes! Please show how to build a two-track helix! And the second deck. And the structure to support all this. You hinted this was coming . Please!
Thank you Ron for time and efforts. This has cleared things up a bit. Not computer savvy.
Advanced features? Yes, please! Thanks Ron!
Ron, great video. I'm just starting with "Anyrail 6" and would like to see more of this type of demo and instructions. Keep them coming, not jus "Anyrail" but your layout as well. would like to see a complete picture of your layout just to get an idea of how you handle your industries.
Great tutorial. Please provide further instruction on this topic. Thank you for all your insight.
Please continue with these tutorials Ron. I have AnyRail6 on my old Toshiba laptop and cannot seem to get it transferred onto my new Dell laptop. I bought this software so long ago I don't have a record of the user name or password I used to set it up on the Toshiba. A tutorial for how to get that done would be great! Thanks for this video. I truly enjoyed it. Keep them coming.
Great video.. no BS just pure informational and enjoyable... good work..
Very many thanks for this tutorial Ron. I wouldn't have known where to begin with using this software. I am just starting to design my new layout so I will be trying AnyRail over the next few days. Thanks again. Vivian
Hello Ron. I really enjoyed this video. I've been using Anyrail to design and experiment on my layout. But I picked up a lot from this video that I didn't knew about. I'm struggling of doing a double deck design, going from 1 deck to the other with grades and so on. So I would really like to see more content on using Anyrail! Thank you for your great videos.
I very much appreciated the Anyrail 6 Track Planning Software Tutorial. I am a long time train fan but now I am planning on building my own N-scale layout on 3 x 8-foot size. I would enjoy another tutorial video using Anyrail 6 software concerning grades as I plan to have a mining mountain at one end of my layout. I will be going from flat Dessert to a Mountain.
This is a GREAT video.
I am starting my first layout and have the ANYRAIL app. I haven't gone much further than the 'experimentation' phase. It looks like I need a computer upgrade to view the 3D.
I would love to see more on elevations, inclines, etc. I learned more from your video in 45 minutes than experimenting for several hours. I've subscribed to your channel.
Ron
Please please do many more videos on any rail 6. Great Video
John
Great video. Would like to see more when it is avaiable. Been twenty years and just retired and getting ready for a small layout to start.
I've already made one more plus showed how I planned an expansion to my own layout with AnyRail. I will be doing more tutorials over the next few months as well. Chek out the entire playlist: czcams.com/video/3QIGBGwTAvg/video.html
And yes please, do more videos on this subject, very interesting and helpful. Thanks from Sweden.
Just watched your video on basic of AnyRail. Very well done. I will be purchasing and working it soon! I will be looking for a video on how to convert your layout drawing to a full size layout. If you don’t have that one, it would be helpful. Thanks.
I enjoyed the video, well done and very easy to follow. I'm just getting started, was not even sure where to began. This has helped me out a lot, most certainly will get the Anyrail6. I for one would be interested in learning more.
Thanks Ron. Great video and yes I would like to see more in-depth videos using AnyRail.
So far I have used only the free trial version; the library has Atlas Code 55 in N-scale, my preferred track. It has been kind of hard to use without having seen this tutorial. Thanks for the great "how to."
What an excellent video. I am about to start designing my layout. This was very helpful. You really should have an affiliate deal with AnyRail.
I know that this is an old post, but I am getting back into my HO railroading after a 50+ year hiatus. I am using flex track and my wife's Department 56 North Pole series buildings for a winter look with a Hogwart's Express as my main train unit with DCC controls!
But I am highly interested in this system. Thanks
Great video.
I have always used XtrackCAD for over 15 years now. This peaked my interest to check out AnyRail.
