Watching Chael and Silva hug it out on stage was such a nice heartwarming moment. Behind those fighters personna and ego... You just have kids who grew up with a dream. It was a nice moment.

Which for the most part works.. look at Wanderlei.. he got so worked up and tunnel vision on Brutalizing Chael, Chael double legged him that many times... it made his TUF double legging and calling Wanderlei a "F@cking amateur" an absolute definite.
And Chael has always stated his wrestling is his strong game, not his striking, but he knows how to speak with confidence and bravado that some actually questioned if Chael was better than they thought.
Anderson was mentally shook, and got taken to the wax on their first showdown, and Chael did his thing for a guaranteed second fight, big payday and another title shot

Take it from a Brazilian: I feel happy for you, Chael. I was only 24 years old when you and Anderson fought for the second time, and I fell for all of your shenanigans before the fight and hated your guts. But once I started paying attention to you, especially through the Joe Rogan Experience, I started to admire your intelligence, your comedic chops (you could easily be a stand up comic) and your unbelievable ability to communicate. You are now by far my favorite MMA personality and I watch your channel everyday.
Don't worry about coming to Brazil like Anderson joked, you're welcome anytime.

As someone that lived through the Chael, Anderson saga on the edge of my seat as a teenager, it warms my heart.
I'm a little older than you but I feel the same way. That whole conflict was super entertaining the early 2010s and got me into mma. I actually went to Vegas and saw their second fight live. It was a really fun time to be an mma fan.

I wasn't into MMA yet but I always always around it and I remember the build up so vively because as a kid I told my uncle this isnlike Goku vs Vegeta but it's real AND THEN ANDERSON GOT THE TRIANGLE
Me too brother. I came on to the scene after their fight, but still very much while Chael was at his best. This warms my heart, and I would love to see Chael and Anderson interact on camera again. Time changes a lot of things, I think the animosity is all gone from Andersons side.

Agree. Anderson Silva’s best moment was pulling a rabbit out of his hat against Chael. His best fight was slaying his demon in the second fight against Chael.
He brought a lot of interest back to Anderson at a point where people were getting bored of watching his fights and annoyed with his antics in the cage. People want to see a competitive fight, and a lot of Anderson's fights weren't looking that way anymore. In their first fight, Chael proved that people could be competitive against Anderson, and also that Anderson was still a puzzle that no one could figure out. In their second fight, Anderson proved that it wasn't a fluke, and that really cemented his legacy.
That was probably one of the highest points of Anderson's career, really, maybe second to the first time he won the belt.
Comparing with the kids these days, aka McNuggets. What Chael have done was business. He crossed the line, and he owned it up.
Big Anderson fan here, who also grew up on mma during their time and I gotta say I agree that Chanel is 100% that guy for him too.

I can just hear that little voice of Uncle Chael trying to hold back his emotion. If you guys notice by 7:10-7:18 I feel like Uncle Chael was about to letting a tear. Not just the happiness to see Anderson’s son, but also to witness him grow up and follow his father footstep. I am happy for you Uncle Chael.
Those 2 press conferences were the best I've ever seen. The back stories, the mutual respect, the humor... you crushed it! You guys all crushed it. Tremendous build-up to a very interesting fight.
And the kid who stole Jake's hat deserves an honorable mention.
Why
Chael being intuitive enough to realize that his chapter with Silva had a different meaning for each guy is pretty cool. This might be the first time I've heard somebody describe being on the other side of the "But for me, it was Tuesday." trope.

I remember being so pissed when Chael lost in 2012 to Silva but it's funny he mentions Anderson's son. I remember after the fight was over seeing him hugging his dad very emotional like that win really really meant something. It was a nice moment to see. Made me realize right then and there how fn truly great Anderson Silva was. And his son has some frickin' skills! Wouldn't be shocked if we see him in the UFC or in another organization!

As someone who grew up in mma during the Silva era it was so fun to see you guys together and interacting. Silva is my favorite fighter ever, but you can’t say Silva without saying Sonnen. If it weren’t for Anderson, you would’ve ruled that division 100%.
It was totally awesome the level of respect you both showed during that press conference, exactly what I hoped for.

Not gonna like my soft ass almost teared up watching that moment between these 2 legends. I vividly remember the rivalry back in high school between them and to see it conclude the way it did, years later - is beautiful.
As a brazilian it took a while for me to understand Chael, but it has been years now following his CZcams channel and I got to know and respect him.
I think Anderson did realize the importance of their fights too, because a legendary career like Anderson’s needed a dance partner like Chael.
Their first fight is the stuff of legends and cemented both guys as Legendary fighters.

Silva had broken ribs, but yeah he came to fight that night. The second fight too, the first round just looked like round 6 of the first fight, but Anderson caught him with his tricks that time and did what Anderson does.
Chael also tested positive for elevated testosterone levels after that fight and was suspended by the fight commission.
@@messiona no, he didnt have broken rib, he injured the cartilage between them. Still super painful, though, and it happened 3 days before the fight. Watch the documentary I believe is called "like water" or something, that shows the moment it happened

It's one thing to look back at old footage, but to have lived in that time & watched those old fights live - made this all the more special. Thanks Chael 🍻

Well I have to say that Chael and his emotional stories give us way more than we deserve. You could literally write a movie script based on these stories. This stuff right here is what its all about man. chael was one of my favorite fighters years ago and continues to be undisputed and undefeated today.

These are the moments in this sport that I truly enjoy the most. More than seeing one of my favorite fighters win, more than seeing a fighter I don't like lose. But the rare moments where as fans we truly get to kind of peak behind the curtain so to speak. I'm aware that this is the fight business, and with that money will always be at the forefront. But after the dust settles, the stories of two fighters and a mutual level of respect for your former opponent. And two people able to set aside the hype of selling the fight, and show a mutual appreciation for one another's roles in each other's stories.
Respect Chael, there was emotion cracking in your voice. I'm glad you found some closure for that long remembered moment. Thank you for sharing, I hope people will find the courage to face the unseen battles that are fought between the ears.
What a talent Chael has for promotion ! Watching him on stage with Silva, how all stayed quiet while Sonnen talked was an ultimate show of respect for what he has built!! He should 100% be remplacing Dana when Dana leaves !!!!

I'm a member of an akb gym, my professor is very good friends with Anderson. So i've had the incredible opportunity to meet Anderson, and even trained at a seminar he put on at our gym. I was blown away by his humility and kindness at that event. Chael's fights with Anderson are some of my very favorite fights in history. Seeing you two interact at that press conference was so cool to me. Loved how it unfolded, and I hope you take him up on that BBQ offer.

These are moments, situations, circumstances and experiences in a life long memorable journey and your highest peak was shared with another's and it's FIGHTING! You meet the kids while young but walked from a shoulda coulda woulda and it hurt! Man...we all can relate one way or another. Had you not been in the position you are today perhaps not being able to have the "closure" never got to happen. But it did and Chael, brother...you'd probably take that to the grave as one of your final moments outside memories of with family of your own and growing up from a small child. Really cool story Chael. I remember those fights, it was when I had gotten back into mma and my friend was a huge Silva fan. I rooted for you just to piss him off, then I found out you were from Oregon and you were a heal and I was a big fan. You kicked his ass most of that fight…. Anyway I watched all of the media yesterday and today with you and Silva, it was really cool to see you two together and interacting after such a long and storied history….. you did a good job, just as Chael as ever, except nicer lol. ….you know what would be really cool? If Helwani interviewed bth of you at the same time and went over your history together. I would absolutely love that. And I bet millions would too.
