- Here’s our Oninaki Nintendo Switch video review. I loved the other games in the series but this changes any things including having a new combat system and styling. Is it third time’s a charm? Let’s find out!

I played SO MUCH Oninaki this week. I refused to write it before I finished the game so...yeah...I literally almost died
Let me know what you guys think of this one. I'm a big fan of the combat despite the less than stellar greeting the demo received.

Didn’t like IAS, not even LS. Oninaki’s premise looked alright to say the least. The demos for all of Tokyo RPG factory’s games don’t often do any justice, but I’m going to skip this one entirely. This developer hasn’t made anything I’d want to try anymore after IAS, not even if it goes on a deep sale at the eshop. Not too fond that the games always get the digital end of the stick forcing those to import the physical version through sites like playasia and amazon.
An honest question. Do you think your opinion on the story stems from rushing thru it? I mean, it’s a long game
Okay so I love everything about this game but I’m wondering is there any post game like what happens when you beat the story? Can I keep going training my spirits?
@@mikahebat I honestly didn't really rush too much but it could have been the pressure of having to finish kind of interfered with it for sure. I think they just miss the emotional mark quite often. Mark

The switch (other than Pc)is the single greatest jrpg platform like....ever. And it's portable!

Looks lovely, I will buy this either on a sale or when I cleared a bit more of my backlog. The combat looks amazing and the story appealing enough. This in addition with a levelling system, count me in!

I enjoyed the demo but it did make the combat feel really simple. I thought it would get stale early. Nice to see it doesn't. With all the games out right now this might be one to pick up in a few months on sale.
Great review! Fair and honest as always, and I'm glad I waited to see it. I still think I definitely want to see this game at some point but it feels less necessary as an instant buy now. I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear go on sale every so often, and I imagine this will join them, so maybe I'll wait until then. It's not like I'm running out of backlog anytime soon, anyways!

@@SwitchUpYt I started Kingdom Hearts again as I want to revisit some of the older titles and then play through the rest of the series I haven't seen, especially 3. But I will take a break from that once Astral Chain comes out next week!

After this review I'm sold, I'll definitely buy Oninaki, I love the visuals and the combat system.
Since I prefer action rpg’s to turn-based rpg combat, I expect to enjoy this game, but am glad I ordered a physical copy so I can sell it if I don’t. Thanks for the honest review, guys! Cheers to Square Enix for wanting your thoughtful opinion(s) on it and future games they release.

Good review Mark. Honestly with it's minuses, I still think this will be a fun game. For a JRPG ( I think this it what it is ) there are some differences that don't make it such an administrative burden to play (i.e., inventory management, complex battle customization, character development). I look forward to playing this.

Great review as always! Seeing the character running around with the demon trailing behind him reminds me that I still have Torna: The Golden Country on the shelf unplayed. Guess I'll wait for a sale on this one. I've already got Astral Chain, DQXI, Witcher 3, Link's Awakening and Ni No Kuni of pre-order, lol.

That's how I felt the same way with Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth. The dialogue both your main character and the companions that follow you during the story campaign when you engage in battle you can't understand most of the time because there's no subtitle. I would love to know what they're saying and it's annoying at times.
@@DracoBudSmith that's the problem with a lot of jrpgs actually. Tales of, Xenoblade, octopath are just a few examples

I tried the demo, it was alright. Though thankfully the combat is looking much better in this video, I might get it eventually.

I loved this game. I don't know how anyone could not like it. Amazing story. Unique. Fun combat. One of the best games I've played in awhile
Again, a game that could have been great if it came out 3-4 months ago instead of when all the heavyweights come out. A pity because I enjoyed the demo.

I kept forgetting what the title of this game was and I've been searching for it for years in Nintendo's terrible Eshop. Luckily it turns out it was on my wishlist and I got a notification it's on sale so I just bought it! Can't wait to play.

God all these rpgs on switch and here's me still needing to complete ff maxima, ys 8 and now I've taken onboard dragon quest builders 2. My oh my are we being bombarded with so much between now and the holidays. It's a dreadful yet exciting thought. Witcher 3 and dragon quest 11 on pre order man it's overload for sure.

SwitchUp luckily I've got xen out of the way along with the dlc took 150hrs 😂 but once I was hooked I couldn't put it down.
i know for a review its gonna be diagnosed through its entirety but you were very very critical.
the game looks fun super fun actually. At least they were trying with their story and giving it life in many ways.
ITs games like this that exist that make battle royale games and grind games crumble.
I'm guessing you didn't watch the whole review (I know it's pretty long) but I was not critical is areas that needed it and very positive about those that also need that. Overall 75% is a decent score and the points I mentioned are factually flawed I'd say.

I'm still going to pick this up. I love the demo and the idea of the game fascinates me. I hope the difficulty isnt off like the demo tho... that would be my biggest let down honestly. I played on the hardest one and it wasn't all the challenging. I hope it gets better on that end.
No the difficulty is fine plus you have three options there. I got destroyed for the first 10 minutes until I figured out how to really play. Then all was well. Mark

I took the plunge and got this and fire emblem and I do not regret it. Needless to say I have plenty of gaming to do. Next up is Astral Chain and maybe Links Awakening.
Switching to the dead realm reminds me of guacamelee, great game

I enjoyed the demo, and will be picking it up. Unfortunately, it got sandwiched between heavy hitters Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Astral Chain, with Daemon X Machina and Dragon Quest XI S to follow...

Sucks that they slipped in some areas , but it's still right up my alley. I love Diablo 3 and I love anime style and Zelda BOTW anime.
I also have depression and anxiety, so I'm wondering if the death theme may strike me more than the average player.

Have you played it ? This game interests me a lot and is on sale but as someone who has anxiety disorder and depression as well I was wondering if the topics were triggering.

Does it get much deeper than the demo? I enjoyed it, but found the basic attacks repetitive, also the maps were dull. Hoping it does grow past that! Also, the skill tree is a tad confusing IMO. May have to wait on this one with Astral Chain just round the corner. Another great review 👍🏻

My back log is enormous, and Pokemon is coming up soon and that will take a lot of my time 😂 I’m screwed and desperately need a year of no switch games to get through that back log.
@@Ashwoodbane Fire Emblem 3H is becoming one of my favorite games of all time. It's my first in the series, and I'm astounded at how high the replay value is and how long the game is. I'm a couple months or so into chapter 2 and I'm at 70 hours already...love it!

this is oddly close to the game shadows awakening. The concepts of shadow realm to living realm. Switching between 4 characters as one with as a root holding the "main character" really looking forward to this game now. cause Shadows is AMAZING

this game was good I played it when it first released only months after a loved one of mine died. full disclosure, the game will make you think and feel for your loved ones that we've lost

Its on sale for $25 bough it. Japanese diablo sounds appealing the demo is pretty good.
After playing the demo, I feel like enjoyment of the game will change highly if you're a weeb. As I love anime, I found the game to be amazing, although your pacing issues do hit the point. Still, if you have spare cash, it's a great game to get day 1. If not, probably a sake where it lowers to 30 bucks would be better.

Demo is entirely bland, but the main game, adds what the demo failed to show
I played the demo; the active combat didn't feel right to me. Maybe a _Paper Mario_ or _Joe Devner Lone Wolf_ style combat would work well.

This game looks amazing. Regardless of some of the quirks it has. The rock opera meets Japanese tones is pretty cool. My only issue with JRPGs has been the detached feel of the characters l. Especially during the cut scenes with dialog exchanges. Always looks like an acting troop practicing lines. That aside is fits the visual chops and looks like it will be a fun ride.

12:26 Couldn't really hear the middle part, but she said something like, " I (something) do my best. Be careful." I guess they don't sub those moments cause it'll just be swamping the screen with text like in Dragon's Dogma, haha. And judging from that part, it doesn't seem too important?
But anyway, great view! I dunno if I should hold off on this one or not because Astral Chain is coming out in like a few days, haha.

Sad you didn't mention that weird thing where you cant skip skill animations until you get "animation canceling" for each spirit through lvling
That's to do with having animation frames that you can take damage. Is intentional and didn't really factor for me as out of the ordinary. Hopefully you're not my one down vote for that lol. Mark

Normally, a game like this is right up my alley. However, I have no desire to play it. I tried the demo and it’s just ok. Also the other two Tokyo RPG Factory games have been ultra emo. The project leads and writers need some joy in their lives. I will say that this looks different enough from Lost Sphear and Setsuna, that it at least seems like it’s doing some new things. I don’t know. I just feel nothing one way or the other about this.

So what is exactly Diablo about it? Is there lots of random loot? Rare/ epic/ legendary? What is the late game like? Is there one? Are there rifts? Infinite progression?

It's OK as I mentioned it has some pacing issues, areas with odd timing but overall I enjoyed it. Mark

Wouldnt say its diablo meets final fantasy at all... just because its isometric and made by square enix... ive completed the game already on maniac difficulty. Its a fantastic game and im a long time fan of both diablo and final fantasy and i fail to see how its like either.

All rpgs have a story, hell even cod has a story so that in turn is the only thing the same as final fantasy or 99% of all games.
