@@GuineaPiggles 😊
Thanks for this video, I'm getting my first guineas ever soon! We're hoping to give them a loving home of good food, lots of space, exercise, safety and of course, lots of love😄🥰Xx and your videos are really helpful!
That's fantastic! I strongly recommend getting them from a rescue centre - you'll be saving 4 guinea pigs then as you'll make room for 2 more in the rescue. They are always so full of piggies needing loving homes. I'm really glad the videos have helped you :)
I’m not a starter but I didn’t know they needed multiple bowls a bridge or toy and a hay feeder thank you
I have guinea pigs but I am still watching 💕💕💕
I love your piggies theyre all unique and beautiful!
Thank you :)
Yes!! Soooooo cute
I love the circus themed cage it's so cute
First and video is perfect thank you 🙏
Thank you :)
i just got my baby guinea pig its so cute I've been looking at your channel for reserch i named mine Cinnamon
It's great you've been doing your research and Cinnamon is a very cute name! Do you have a companion for him as they do best in pairs and can become very lonely if they are single piggies - you might like this video which tells you all about whether a guinea pig can live alone czcams.com/video/88S6bCn6ww8/video.html x
I’m using that name lol
We also have a Cinnamon! :-) It's a lovely piggy-name isn't it!? x
I just filled a whole page worth of info! Thank you!!
You're very welcome :)
Guinea pigs are cute I really want one so maybe if I get one then I will, rewatch this video
So cute
Thank you for giving such a good tips about guinea pigs😊
You're very welcome :) And thank you for watching our videos
I absolutely love your channel and all the useful information
Thank you so much! x
This helps soo much
I'm glad you found it useful :)
This is going to help because I am getting a gene pig In a few days😊

Brilliant channel. good information. keep up the good work. 🇿🇦😀👌👍
Lovely video Monique. So helpful for those starting out with new piggies :-) x
Thanks Jemma, we felt this was an essential video for people who were new to guinea pigs because many people don't realise the importance of all these things :)
@@GuineaPiggles Very true x :-)
I love the content of this video. Thank you. I have been petsitting guinea pigs for others and I just got a pair of baby guinea piggies today. This kind of high-quality educational videos keep my knowledge updated and refresh my mind.
Thank you. I'm so glad it helped you :)
Thanks Monique. A very helpful video for starter guinea pig parents! How is little Sunny Pig doing? Hope she's back home with the rest of the piggy gang now and doing really well? x
Thank you Jemma! Sunny Pig is doing amazingly! She went back in with the others on Tuesday last week and is no longer hobbling around! They're in a room on their own at the moment as we have some renovations going on where they were but when we go into the room (which we do frequently) she pops out of her hidey and comes to the side of the cage begging for pea flakes. She's being very spoilt at the moment! She's a real cutie! :)
Thank you so much for making your videos!! They help me connect with my guineapigs!
I’ll be getting a silkie Guinea pig when we find a breeder so thanks for all the tips! 😄
You're very welcome :) You should be able to get a silkie from a rescue centre - have you considered that at all? We always recommend rescuing as the rescues are always so full which is very sad for the piggies. We got our silkie, Miss Honey from a rescue.
hi! i love these videos, but i have a recommendation for feeding. You can get something called a snuffle mat, to enrich them while eating, as bowls encourage laziness. Im not hating btw, just helping out! ❤
I have all this stuff!
I think you can also use Milton to disinfect the cage.
Aloha from Hawaii, thank you for your Piggie Videos. They are very thorough and informative. One suggestion/request is can you please
I like how he/she just stole the food 😂
We have plastic bottles and a glass bottle as the glass ones are more expensive and they have to go at a really weird angle to drink from it
I use both. Glass are good but go off like a bomb when smashed.
I have pellets for both rabbits and guinea pigs but I only have three guinea pigs their names are Booma Alex and Coco.
I have a Guinea pig that just lost her sister. we just got 2 new ones recently but she doesn’t really fit in with them because the 2 other Guinea pigs are better friends with each other and she gets left out so I think if we try to make this cage she will be a lot happier
Can you make your own hay? Like get grass and let it dry in the sun?
I want a guinea pig, I want to have a rabbit but it cost much money because of neutering the rabbit:( so I decided to take care a guinea pig instead! I hope my parents will allow me and I also hope that they have a guinea pig near my place:D
If not, that would be a huge disappointed for me but I can also buy online xD
thank you for this!! if you don’t mind me asking where did you get the guinea pig pellets in om of the clips that is in the big bag? :)
one*
I've updated the description to include the Burgess pellets but I think they're only available in the UK. We do have some other recommended pellets in the description for both UK and US though
Hi we tried clicking on the links in the description but they did'nt open.
im thinking of getting a guinea pig but i can only get one. if i hold it all the time and play with it will it be ok?
Can I use white vinegar mix with water, to clean their cage?
I was thinking about getting two piggies but we can’t house them inside. Should I house them just outside or not get any at all?
I’m getting two guinea pigs soon around next week but I don’t think there are any shelters near me what should I do?
Have a look at classified ads on gum tree or craigslist as there may be someone who needs to rehome their guinea pigs. I would recommend that you get any guinea pigs that you rehome in this way to a vet as soon as you get them so they can confirm their gender, and make sure they are ok as you don't always know how they've been treated or how well they've been looked after.
im going to adopt 2 guinea pigs very soon and their names are gonna be orbit and rocket. how often would i need to wash the fleece liner?
It really depends on the size of the enclosure as well as weather etc. When we used fleece I would change it every 3 days.
Where did you get all those guinea pigs
Also sorry I have so many questions, but 1. can you do a video of cleaning a Midwest cage (if possible), 2. can i start off with one guinea pig and see if i truly want them and if yes will it effect the relationship with the guinea pigs when i get a second one, also last question have you ever got bitten by a guinea pig and is there a high chance of getting bit by them?
If you get one guinea pig, it will be lonely, but if you spend a lot of time with it it should be okay. There’s no telling how it will react to a new guinea pig. It might accept it fine, but it also might hate it. If it ends up accepting the new pigggie, it should have the same relationship with it as if they had been together all along, but if it doesn’t accept the new piggie, then you’re in for it. If you’re going to do that, I would suggest getting both females, as they are more likely to get along than males. Guinea pigs hardly ever bite, I’ve never been bitten. Unless you are very, very, mean to your piggies, I’d say there is a little to no chance of getting bit. (Unless you’re feeding it a veggie and it accidentally bites you, but that doesn’t really count. Plus you can just feed them veggies out of a dish.) Guinea pigs are generally very docile creatures. If you’re thinking about getting guinea pig/s I would definitely recommend it! They are very sweet and fun, and they tolerate a lot. My little sister used to put hair ribbons in my piggies fur, and they just sat there and let her do it.
For a last resort, you can sell all those books!
Hello! I just wanted to know where did you get the Guinea pig bridge from? It looks really fun and i cant seem to find a Guinea pig safe one
It’s the Resch one
Juliet Morris thank you ❤️
They're usually available on the UK Amazon but last time I looked they were unavailable. They're really good quality and our piggies love them!
Though it gets dirty, Its not a good idea to use bottles because bending of the backs can hurt them and cause injury.
Pet safe spray to clean the cage is something I’ve been looking for I’ve got an all natural spray that only uses natural oils I wanted to know if I can use that? :)
It's difficult to say as not all natural oils are safe either. But clove, tea tree oil, thyme, wintergreen, camphor, and eucalyptus are definitely ones to avoid. I'd have to look further into this to give you an informed answer but you might want to check out this article from Small Pet Select which gives a bit more information on using essential oils around pets smallpetselect.com/essential-oils-and-pet-safety. Have you considered using vinegar? This is something we use as it works well as a cleaner and the smell dissipates after a while. You can also mix a bit of bicarbonate of soda with it.
Guinea Piggles okay thank you! I’ll try looking into that :)
Where can I get those water bottles?Pls🥺 they are so cute😍
We have all the starter kit items listed on our website here www.guineapiggles.com/guinea-pig-starter-kit or if you're in the UK you can go here www.guineapiggles.co.uk/guinea-pig-starter-kit. The water bottles in our video aren't available in the US as far as I know but we do have a good alternative.
What type of guinea pig is the best for beginners?
They all need the same care but the smooth short haired need less maintenance so I would say they are the easiest to care for. You might also find this video helpful as it tells you a lot of things you need to know before getting them czcams.com/video/dGP6JOj8Ya4/video.html
please please please ive been looking high and low for the bridge for the GP's. can anyone help?
We bought it on the UK Amazon but it doesn't seem to be available now. However, the same brand has a similar one here amzn.to/3BLEKYf
We have 3 piggies and two food bowls for the pellets, what would you recommend with their daily portions?
They should have around an eighth of a cup of pellets each so give them all nearly half a cup to share and about a cup of fresh veggies/leaves each a day - you might want to check out this video that tells you all about daily food and portions czcams.com/video/y70cfUdFcEs/video.html
@@GuineaPiggles Thank you!
Hello! I was wondering if i could buy the care sheet in American dollars? Because I am looking to get a piggy and I only have American dollars and no pounds.
Yes, if you follow the link, you can buy in American dollars :)
I have a question I know this was posted 2 years ago but why is the minimum of space for a male bigger then a female??
Because male guinea pigs get more aggressive over the stuff in the cage so they need a bigger cage to keep em from fighting over water, hay, toys, hides and all that good stuff
I know this is video was a little while ago, but if I use GuineaDad Fleece Liners do I need to use a disinfectant spray?
Yes, you still need to use it because the base of the cage will need cleaning when you change the liners.
So if i got a midwest guinea pig cage i would take off the liners, take off the blue cloth that goes on the bottom and then spray it? And would I wash the fleece liners and blue cloth that comes with the cage? Sorry I have so many questions!
@@sierrajarrell9601 yep! You simply take the liners and fleece and throw them in the laundry, spray the bottom of the cage and wipe it with paper towels, then put the clean and dry liners and fleece back in! I would recommend having an extra set of fleece and liners so your piggies can get back in their cage as soon as possible and not have to wait for the washer and dryer.
Hello! For pellets, are Science selective guinea pig pellets a good choice?
I believe the main ingredient in Science Selective standard pellets is Alfalfa which isn't good but if you can get hold of the Science Selective grain free pellets, these have better ingredients. You might like the page on our website about pellets here guineapiggles.com/guinea-pig-pellets (or guineapiggles.co.uk/guinea-pig-pellets if you're in the uk)
@@GuineaPiggles oh i see. I’ll definitely switch to the grain free. Thank you :)
Uhhhhh what do you do if you got the pellets that are also ment for other animals? I only got a small one tho
They shouldn't have these as they may contain unsuitable foods so I recommend getting some that are made for guinea pigs. You might find this page on our website useful guineapiggles.com/guinea-pig-pellets
@@GuineaPiggles Oh Ok thank you I will look at it right away!
Hello I love your channel I'm getting guinea pigs soon anyone have ideas fir names ?
Thank you Peter. We have a page with some fantastic names for guinea pigs on our website here www.guineapiggles.com/guinea-pig-names
@@GuineaPiggles that was very helpful thank you
My brothers have a Guinea pig but they aren’t taking care of them so I’m taking them in. I don’t really know how to take care of one so I’m looking up videos before I take them in. My question is, is it safe for a Guinea pig to be out of its cage?
Thank you for being responsible and taking over the care of these guinea pigs. I'm not exactly sure what you mean but if they're out of the cage then they should be put in a run to make sure they can't harm themselves by escaping. We have some info on runs here www.guineapiggles.com/guinea-pig-runs. You'll also find lots of info on how to care for guinea pigs here www.guineapiggles.com/how-to-look-after-a-guinea-pig/
Great video. One thing: when you talk about bedding, you don't go into details. More details would be appreciated. Thanks!
Glad you liked the video - have you seen our bedding playlist? We go into much more detail on those videos :) Here's the link czcams.com/play/PLO-32fuH7734H_AWs3ZP9mqtiJ4YfEg7z.html
Would it be ok if I would let my 2 guiniea pig have a cage and connect a playpen to it.?
It's difficult to answer without seeing the setup but the most important thing is to make sure your guinea pigs are safe from harm including any other pets or animals or escaping somewhere they might hurt themselves. The more space they have, the better. So if you can provide them with a safe pen that is attached to their cage, that would be great.
OK thanks
If a guinea pig has a glass bottle it could freeze and it could break so get a plastic
As guinea pigs shouldn't be kept in freezing temperatures, the bottles won't freeze so they are safe. We find the glass bottles are much better quality and the water probably tastes nicer out of glass rather than plastic :)
Also pls reply how often should you bathe them?
You can bathe guinea people pigs by filling a tub with warm water (not hot or cold) and placing the guinea pig in it, then use a cup to get them all wet (be careful not to get any in the eyes or nose. ) and then gently rub special piggie shampoo (or human dandruff shampoo) into their coat (I don’t recommend using shampoo around their face, washing by hand with water is fine) and then use a cup to pour water over them and rinse the shampoo out. Then gently towel dry them, and use a hair dryer on a low setting to finish drying them. (I sometimes wrapped them in a towel and let them sit in front of a vent blowing warm air!) Never put them back in their cage wet or damp. Hope that helps!
It really depends. If they are dirty or smelly, they need bathing but we find our short haired piggies rarely need baths. There's all the info you need for this in our video on how to bathe a guinea pig here czcams.com/video/wdyx5Ov8eCs/video.html
