Inside the stove top burner element are some thermal limiters that control the high limit temperature of the element and one that controls the hot surface indicator light.

I changed the 2500W Element, checked the flow of current. All terminals show current coming in, but still the new element does not heat. I switched the new element with the old one and it works on the left side. But the old working one does not work on the right side. Could you please advise what could be the problem?
Thank you for posting these videos; very well done. We just moved in to a house that has a Jenn Aire Smooth Top cooking surface. Our previous home had a similar stove. However, my wife has observed that the burners on the Jenn Aire smooth top hard to cook with as the heating element is either fully on or on low. There appears to be no middle heat despite what the switch indicates. Is this possible? Malfunctioning switch? Thoughts?

My hot surface light wont go out, and my heating element looks just like the one you tested...do you think the contact gets stuck and wont break contact and thats causing the light to remain on?

I replaced the control switch for front left dual element on my smooth top stove (Jenn-air made by Whirlpool). There was an arc in the switch (not sure what caused it). Now that I have replaced the switch, the burner heats either single or dual element heat, but there is no control from switch. It heats continuously with no element on and off so the switch is acting as an on off switch. I can not vary the heat output of burner no matter where I set the control switch. Is there a feedback to the switch from the burner or what controls the output of burner. Sorry so many words. Thanks

the thermal limiter and infinite switch are connected in line. As long as both are closed electricity will flow.
The difference is that the thermal limiter will simply open when an unsafe temperature is met to prevent damage to element, fire hazard or overheating but the infinite switch is an electronic switch capable of fluctuating the flow of the electricity to infinite settings (not just a simple mechanical low-med-high switch)
Very nice. You are the first to explain that there is in fact a limit thermostat and a hot switch on glass top elements. I have a bit of a conundrum with an LG front left element. I believe the limit thermostat is keeping my good element ( right resistance) from heating, but there could be a control board or relay problem as the same burner Left front would intermittently come on when left rear was energized.(with no indication of Hot Surface) Would you gamble on fiddling with the limit thermostat or just replace the assembly?

GE ceramic top range. Triple burner element, infinite control switch, selector switch, temperature switch, all show continuity. Still, 6 inch of 6,9,12, not working. Can you advice?

great video. Do you happen to know why the heating element connections are only laying on the spade connection points. I had one which starting arcing at one of the tension contacts and was not sure why it was designed that way.
what I am talking about is what you are pointing at 41-46 seconds in.
Question: If large LG 2700 watt radiant burner only works about 10% of time, then shuts off, is burner bad or is it PCB? All other burners work fine. Don't want to spend $140+ for new burner if that's not the problem. Had appliance company come out to "diagnose". Literally did not pull out range or disassemble/ test anything and without testing burner for resistance said the burner was bad. $65 service charge for about a 10 minute consultation. If all other burners work does that rule out the circuit board?

It only had a One Year Warranty...
Over the labor day weekend I was slow cooking Ribs & after cooking them at 325 for 5 hours (they turned out great by the way) after I removed the Ribs I turned the broiler on to toast the Garlic Bread after a while I noticed that the Garlic Bread was not getting toasted ??
Then I noticed that all the burners were lifeless ??
I had absolutely no heating power at all but the light in the oven & the display panel did have power...Could you possibly point me in the right direction... I would really appreciate it & I will give you my world famous Secret Rib Recipe...💃💃💃💃💃
My glass stove top is a ge spectra true temp. Gets hot but doesn't glow red...the oven also gets hot but elements don't glow red...

Great videos, Bill. My Kenmore ceramic-top stove's right back small burner starts to heat up when turned on and quickly cuts out before reaching set temperature. It does not come on again. Did you get this fixed? Mine is doing the same thing. I think it's the switch. I'm going to try swap out the switch from another eye and see if the problem follows.
It was the switch. Swapped the switch to the other eye and the problem followed the switch.
Sorry Bill. I has a whirlpool washer. I replace the dogs that was broken . the coupe that was broken and checked the clutch. It still don't agitate. Or spin. Feeling helpless.

Same question for me except I have 640 volt 3 phase range top with 5] 10,000 watt elements.
I have a similar whirlpool range and randomly the burner will go full hot , and I cant seem to regulate the temp, and almost always the surface temp indicator is on sometimes for days and the burner is cold . I was thinking a bad switch, but now am thinking it might be the surface temp light sensor ? anyone have any incite on my problem or has experienced the same problem

Hoping you are well within everything we are facing worldwide. I installed a new burner and it didn't work. I measured the input voltage to verify it was not a stove problem but the voltage is fine. At the input of the limiter the voltage is 230 volts but at the output of the limiter (the element input) it is zero.
In order to replace a limiter switch do I have to replace the complete element ? Thanks
