Thank you for posting a video on how to do this. I had a dealer do my first oil change and after reading comments on modernbuddy I figured I could do it myself. However I was having trouble finding out how exactly to do it. Your video makes it seem very easy. Thanks again, I appreciate it.
Thanks! The oil level is kinda tricky to check on these crazy things but I just make sure I'm on a level surface and keep it on the center stand. I find that the best time to check it is before I ride. I also try to do a oil change every 1,000 mi. It's cheap and a good way to keep your scoot running strong for years! Thanks for watching!
I didn't think there were many of us riding these out here. Great American made bike! And this is helpful. You just saved me about $100 going to the local shop. Appreciate you.
I don’t have the bike anymore but it is a very simple process. There should be a drain and fill plug on the rear hub. Remove the lower drain plug and the upper fill plug. Drain the fluid and reinstall the lower plug. Fill with the appropriate fluid until it starts coming out of the fill plug and or the cc’s should be displayed somewhere on the hub. Reinstall the top plus and your done. Hope this helps.
Have you seen an Oil Filter (small black canister) on the Hooligan? They have them on the Buddy 170i. And also, they sneak them on to the Buddy 125 too which was surprising to me the first time I fully disassembled one, it on the bottom of the engine sort of hiding. It doesnt mention these in the manual as far as I know. I generally replace oil on a scooter every 800 miles but the presence of that canister would obviously stretch the oil to maybe twice that... SYM Lance is easy because they dont have them.. you just replace the oil every 800 miles and youre good.
BklynPrototype I don’t have the bike anymore my son now has it and is in another state but I believe you can access it in the under seat storage compartment.
Never had to replace the intake manifold gasket on one I imagine it’s fairly simple but you do have to remove a lot of the plastics, that is where you’ll run into the Challenge. The cylinder is and engine are under the seat below the plastic storage compartment that’s also where you access the spark plug to change the spark plug. If I remember correctly that’s also where the Throttlebody fuel injection is.I no longer own the bike so it’s challenging for me to give you any solid advice. I hope this helps and good luck👍🏻
Hello my friend, I just bought a 2022 genuine hooligan 170i about a month ago, can you tell me when should I make the first transmission oil change , and also is possible to make a video clip to show me how to do it ? , thank you ! .
Unfortunately I no longer own that scooter but I would do the transmission oil change when I did the first oil change just to get out any new material from assembly.
Joe M I like to use a synthetic oil 10w 40, Motul makes a scooter specific oil but any good motorcycle oil will do. Most scooters don't have a wet clutch so they don't always require the additional additives that motorcycles with wet clutches require.
can u do a change on the gear box i have 2023 hooligan and we put in 115 ml of genuine gear oil and its running funny would couple of ml make a diff on the hooligan did i put to much or need to drain gear oil little
@@spide1380 just use the proper weight gear oil and what they require in the book. Brand probably is not as important as the weight. I would probably use a Synthetic oil though.
@@JeffSous There's a transmission upgrade kit for this they released a couple of years ago. www.scooterworks.com/NCY-Super-Transmission-Set-Genuine-GY6-P1325.aspx
@@JeffSous I put one of those transmission kits in my Buddy 170 & really don't know that it was worth it. The belt upgrade was nice I didn't notice that much better performance and the clutch sheave with the thousand ball bearings was a total pain in the ass. I do like the exhaust, shock & fork upgrades offered by scooterworks. They don't give you speed but it makes riding more fun.

Moif So glad this helped. Ride safe😎👍🏻
About as American made bike as my ktm
Moif They are imported from Taiwan by an American Co.
Great guide, thanks Larry!
Thanks for watching my friend!👍🏻
Very good video but I couldn't watch v the whole video because it lags a lot (I got an old phone.) Did you put the whole 1 liter?
the manual says use ONLY 15w40 jaso MB, very different then jaso MA2, you might destroy the trans.
Very helpful video. What about changing transmission fluid?

As far as I know the hooligan does not have that.
Thx for teaching me how to change my Hooli' oil. What about the spark plug?

@@ManCaveMayhem thx so much 👍
How do you turn off the red oil light??
no replies on turning the light off ?????
Going to look at a hooligan this weekend, how often does it need a oil change ?
I did mine every 2k but if you use a good oil you can go 3k but it's so cheap and easy to do I just do it sooner. I hope this helps.
how do you replace the gasket on manifold I own the same bike

whats the name of that scooter oil you use nowawadays? I've riden hard for about 6 months without the first oil change...

Where can I purchase the crush washer on the drain plug from?
Not sure on that but I actually reuse mind quite a few times and didn’t have any issues of leakage.

Good morning sir how do you reset oil check light once you have change the oil
I honestly don’t remember I don’t have that scooter anymore sorry I’m not able to help you with that.
what is the max lode for this scoter
I’m not really sure I no longer on that scooter. I think it was around 300 pounds.
How much oil goes in it exactly?
A little less than a quart🤷♂️ use the dipstick to get it dialed in👍🏻
What did you use to change the oil screen?
Daniel Ward You just clean it. You don’t need to replace it.
ManCave Mayhem sorry, I actually meant to ask what you used to clean the screen.
Does the Hooligan have an oil filter?
Jeff Sousa no it does not it just has a screen.
ManCave Mayhem thanks! I'm looking for a little more speed, is there anything I can do? Maybe a cdi box?
Jeff Sousa rollers will also squeeze a little more out of it but you may sacrifice some bottom end power

so, no taking the oil cap off first.
You can if you want to no biggie. Either way it drains better if you take it off.
