I feel this deeply. I was diagnosed at 33 - and I’ve held many of those same positions. Such a lightbulb for me too. Thanks for this.

I like this guy. It's nice to see others with ASD within the same relative range as I am. A lot of the time I feel guilty or like an imposter because I have some behaviours that other autistics can't manage either as easily or frequently - things like this; speaking openly and confidently, inflecting in a certain way - tonality, accent - even if even that feels like a mask in itself. How I speak at home is worlds different from how I speak in social circles.

There is no scientific basis to the claim there's only one correct way for a brain to function. The world was designed without disabilities in mind so we live in an inherently ableist world, when we look through the suffering autistic people experience we come to see the vast majority of suffering stems from the environment and mistreatment, not the autism itself.
Does it not make sense that natural variation in neurological development will equal natural variation in human development since they are correlated meaning it's still natural?
Nature is not the creator of "average" meaning the "average human" is artificial, something with no tangible existence. A fourth-grade reader may be a sixth-grade mathematician, grades are violence and interference with the developmental process. The very same principle applies to human and neurological development according to nature.
The human race requires bio-diversity to survive. The human race requires genetic-diversity for genetic stability to survive. So according to science, we will require neuro-diversity as well to survive.
Claiming a "healthy human" is somewhere in the middle is denial of the two ideals, neurodiverse people have abilities nonexistent in neurotypical people because we are closer to both the positive and negative ideals, doesn't that mean neurotypical people are disabled?
This world's problem is its obsession with "normal," applying "normality" to that which has no "normality" is flawed, diversity is an integral part of the human. As we look through history all the way to this day guess what we see?
We see that where "normal people" are, discrimination, racism, cultural prejudice, oppression and conflict lurk. The mythical belief of the existence of "the normal human" is the cause of all these offences.
Embracing human diversity is the way to bridge the gaps between all humans, the way to create a bigger norm that all people can fit.
