#boxsprings are basically wooden boxes that contain metal coils. They are used to create a barrier between the #bed and #mattress. Also, they can help extend the life of the #mattress by absorbing some of the shock and strain sleepers put on it.
Those who aren’t sure if they need a #boxspring should consult their #mattress manufacturer to see if they recommend using one. Also, the type of bed people have will dictate whether a #boxspring is necessary or not. Modern #platformbeds don’t usually require a #boxspring, but #standardbedframes and #antiquebeds usually do.

for a mattress copmany these videos are incredible. helpful, informative and direct to the point
Glad they are helpful!
Such a helpful video! I didn’t know that a box spring and a foundation were two different things!!
Excellent review this might be one of the first times I've ever had box springs explained to meet in Life or in a video. I happen to have a box spring, but really never understood the purpose of it until now.
Great video. Helpful, and the information was clear cut and easy to understand. Thank you.
Thank you for posting this. It's a very helpful video.
Wow!! Thanks for making such informative video
I always thought a foundation was just another term for box spring. This is good information.
wow I never knew that about box springs. ive just always used one but very nice to know!! thank you
Good Job Martin, I learned a ton in 4 minutes.
Is a box spring necessary in 2020?
Answer: Not at all.
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk.
thanks
Thank you for the video! Now going to watch the innerspring vs memory foam mattress video, but at the moment I might be leaning toward the memory foam to reduce the need for a boxspring!
I always thought a box spring was a smart choice. I have a low profile bed so my box spring is slim. I think I'll keep it when I get a new mattress. I don't think it does too too much other than provide the mattress with a nice flat surface vs slats that have spaces in between.
Thanks for posting!
Great review. I'm a believer that all mattresses need a support base, be it box spring or foundation. Thanks for the information
Thanks for clarifying the difference between Box spring and foundation. Just got a foam mattress. Now I know what base to get for it.
Good information. I always looks at the manufacturers suggestions or requirements for this requirement.
I have a box spring that I’ve been debating whether to remove and now I know I might not need it since I have a memory foam mattress! Thank you!
I always prefer a box spring. Good to know that it can void a warrantee if it requires the use of one. I also like a higher bed.
Okay this is exactly what I’m looking for!! I have a Ghost bed Spend hours searching.. I bought a GhostBed a while back sadly as much as I love it I’m getting a pinching a nerve and I wake with swollen legs.
I inherited an old style bedroom set which requires a box spring. It tends to be more of hassle and I find myself wishing I could just buy a new modern set with the slats built in. I don’t see much of a need for them personally. But I can see their desire for some. It does provide a better supportive base and probably increases the life of a mattress.
Great video, thank you
You bet
Great video! But I still have questions. We bought an antique metal bedframe. It is just shy of a modern day full size bed. Therefore, a full size box spring does not fit within the metal bed frame. We cut 2x4s to fit into the bed frame. Now we have six 2x4 slats in the bed frame. We have NOT purchased a mattress yet. QUESTION: Do we need a box spring or bunkie board on top of the slats? Or can we put a mattress directly on the slats? Thank you!
Very helpful
The problem is I need a super firm hard foundation surface under my purple mattress and a box spring does not support a purple mattress enough. The mattress will sag on the left and right side of the center bar as the box spring weakens over time.
I think you should always use a box spring or foundation of some sort to properly support the mattress. My daughter has a bed that has a trundle underneath so she has a bunkie board as her support. I had to buy the foundation and the mattress as to not void the warranty.
I finally got a platform base so I no longer need a box spring, The only time I used it was so I did not have to put my mattress on the floor.
hi, very good video, we're about to set up sleeping quarters in a new place. We have an ENDY mattress that's been treating us fairly well. We have a NEW bedframe with slats as a bottom. Do you think we would need a box spring on top of the slats? or perhaps make the slats into a more complete surface with plywood? or maybe just the Endy on slats? Thanks for your thoughts.
My box spring and mattress are 2 years old but it’s high like you said. I have to climb up. Anyway I have a regular frame that came with it. Can I remove the box spring and still use the frame or will I have to invest in a wood slatted frame
ive always liked the height in my bed as well as prolong the life of mattress it self
If had a platform bed for 20 years and while it tends to decrease the overall life of a mattress, it does provide a much better firm base for any mattress.
Hi, what do you mean with a platsform bed? Please explain. :)
Can you do list on adjustable beds?
Thanks for the video! I bought a bear hybrid mattress and it's on the way, is putting that on my current box spring fine or should I get a foundation?
A hybrid can work well with a box spring. If yours is still in good shape, I say you're good to go.
when we got a new mattress and box springs we didn't know it but we installed boxsprings upside down it took a week my husband said he could not sleep on that mattress anymore we got ripped off and were not sold the mattress we tried out after he called and complained we were looking for the model number on the mattress we lifted it up that is when he discovered we put it wrong side up....it made a huge difference right side up we felt pretty stupid!
I have a queen platform frame with slats. Can I put a board under the mattress so When i tuck in the sheets my fingers don't get caught it the slates?
I bought a twin(double) bed for my daughter with matress. According to the matress company, No box spring required but it is very very uncomfortable as some of the bed slats are missing and I was wondering if I can remove the slats and put in a box spring. Is that possible?
If my bed frame is broken on one side should I just remove the bedframe for should I keep it until I can afford a new bed frame
My son’s room has a wood bed frame with 3 wooden slats for to hold the mattress, so do we need to get a box frame or can I get a stand alone mattress in a box 📦 will that suffice? No one really sleeps on it I am just tired of looking at a bed frame with no mattress and it would be nice to have a guest bed.
Ever since i moved away from my old innerspring mattress i never used a box spring again. Now i use platform frame for a all-foam bed and hybrid beds
How do you protect your matress for getting dirty at the bottom if you have a platform ?
Hi, what kind of platform base do you have? Like straight solid wooden planks or spring planks?
I had no idea that foundations and box springs were 2 different things!!!
I have a memory foam mattress. Idk what box springs I need.can someone help me?
My box spring makes noise every time I try to lay down. Does this mean I need a new one? I have a memory foam mattress by the way
Innerspring mattresses are being phased out. With that being said, box springs will be a thing of the past. Mattresses are more supportive and well made in these times so they will no longer be a necessity. That will also make mattresses more affordable.
I bought a king size bed but when they delivered it and set it up, the bed is too high, higher than waist high, difficult to get up in
What about hybrid beds (coil and gel memory foam)? Do they need the box spring that can come as a pair or is a wood slat support base (like Ikea) ok?
Nevermind, lol it does void my warranty if I don't use it. :( Guess i'm getting a bed stool since my bed is a flipping mountain!
do I need a box spring for Beautyrest Harmony Lux Diamond Series Pillow top?
I need a queen size mattress and box spring do u have any cheap one in blytheville
Wow, I didn't know that you could void a warranty without the use of a box spring. Oops, I have never really liked using them with my beds lol!
I thought a boxspring was a type of bed. How do you go about buying a bed/mattras separately?
Didn't know there was a difference between a box spring and a foundation
If you have only wood slats at the bottom of your frame is there some way to repair them if they're obviously misshapen. Poor guy on a budget. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks :(
Is it ok if I still use my box spring with a mattress such as an Amerisleep of Helix with no inner spring? Or would it not matter at all? I thought they also helped with breathability ....
Thanks for the insight!
It is totally okay to use a box spring with those mattresses! I'm not positive about the breathability, but it definitely won't hurt.
@@MattressclarityThank you!
Quit giving the same 10 second blurb over and over again and dig a little deeper into details. This didn't help much.
Hi. I have a platform bed and and use a bunkie board For my tempurpedic ,however we are going to get the hybrid tempur pedic and I don’t know if that changes the type of box spring that I may need. Do you know what’s better for a hybrid bed that will go on top of a platform bed?
That I'm not 100% sure about. If you are using a hybrid mattress on a platform bed, you might not actually need a box spring at all.
Thanks for responding. My husband asked someone from tempur pedic and they said we should use the same bunkie board (I don’t know if that’s how you spell it )
good
i really dont see a point in a box spring if you can just bed frame with the right supports. I am not really a fan of them because they always seem to break and i just dont have the best of luck with them.
If you purchase a box spring and use it for years later on you buy a new mattress do you continue to use the same box spring
You can still use the same box spring if it is still in good shape.
This dude came out here talking about box springs and i was waiting for him to tell my my the Snydercut was bad
box spring or platform for a sealy hybrid mattress
Either should be fine to be honest.
Much prefer the simplicity of a platform bed.
Good to know if the manufacturer says to use a box spring and you don't use one, you could void your warranty.
Most companies warranty requires you to have a proper foundation in order for them to honor the warranty. (and now, you mentioned exactly what i said! 😉)

How often should one replace their boxsprings?
Right because mine makes noise after I try to sit on it ……
I am good without a box spring :)
I feel like box springs are mostly outdated. I prefer a modern style foundation.
What kind of a foundation do you like?
Precisely 💙☕️👌
@@user-gc3rv6jw3n definitely one that is “stable” 🙄
Honestly, a 200 lb adult is not gonna like the feeling of just a mattress for too long 😂 . I promise you that!!
So basically yes you need a box spring.
I prefer box springs those platform/foundation things are hard and uncomfortable
Hi, I am doubting about a good modern frame like spring slats or dish base.. or a solid wooden slat base (straight slats that dont bend).
Did you try also a thick and softer matrass on a solid base? That can maybe help with the comfort level or did it still not feel good?
@@user-gc3rv6jw3n i removed the slats from my bed frame when used in conjunction with box springs your bed is hard regardles of the style of your mattress after removing the slats my bed was much softer
I didnt feel as tired in the mornings and my back pain went away
@@GeorgiaRidgerunner Ah okay, thanks. Can you please share what kind of slats there were under the box spring? Was it a solid straight slat or an arched sprung slat? Hope to hear.
@@user-gc3rv6jw3n straight slats was what i was using
Come by my channel im going to be building a new
Bed frame here pretty soon
@@GeorgiaRidgerunner Okay thank you. I will.
But sorry I dont understand yet, you say: first there where solid straight wooden slats únder the boxspring right? And after you removed those slats it feels better right?
But where is your boxpring now resting on then? I mean the underpart of a boxspring is also a wooden pallet or something right? With the sáme harshness of a wooden straight slat right? So I dont see the difference yet..
Um...Box springs were invented to augment intercourse, and simultaneously silence the noises thereof.
Verification: Watch newlyweds test Mattress and Box-Springs (and their combined height for "side-usage") in a store some time. Every couple does (or should do) this test before purchasing.
I sleep on the floor.
Does that feel nice, like not too harsh?
@@user-gc3rv6jw3n No, I mean my mattress is on the floor but it's comfortable. I got rid of my bed frame a long time maybe like 10 years years ago because it was too noisy and I never went back.
@@Mr.universe. Okay. And you sleep good too? :-)
🚗🚑😭
OK, but WHY?
Sorry, but you keep repeating yourself and really keep repeating the same question without provide any insight to the main question in any technical details.
I think most of these comments are by bot accounts.
