#boxsprings are something some people forget about when shopping for a mattress. But what exactly is a #boxspring and who really needs one?

#boxsprings are basically wooden boxes that contain metal coils. They are used to create a barrier between the #bed and #mattress. Also, they can help extend the life of the #mattress by absorbing some of the shock and strain sleepers put on it.
Those who aren’t sure if they need a #boxspring should consult their #mattress manufacturer to see if they recommend using one. Also, the type of bed people have will dictate whether a #boxspring is necessary or not. Modern #platformbeds don’t usually require a #boxspring, but #standardbedframes and #antiquebeds usually do.

I always thought a box spring was a smart choice. I have a low profile bed so my box spring is slim. I think I'll keep it when I get a new mattress. I don't think it does too too much other than provide the mattress with a nice flat surface vs slats that have spaces in between.
    Thanks for posting!

I inherited an old style bedroom set which requires a box spring. It tends to be more of hassle and I find myself wishing I could just buy a new modern set with the slats built in. I don’t see much of a need for them personally. But I can see their desire for some. It does provide a better supportive base and probably increases the life of a mattress.

Great video! But I still have questions. We bought an antique metal bedframe. It is just shy of a modern day full size bed. Therefore, a full size box spring does not fit within the metal bed frame. We cut 2x4s to fit into the bed frame. Now we have six 2x4 slats in the bed frame. We have NOT purchased a mattress yet. QUESTION: Do we need a box spring or bunkie board on top of the slats? Or can we put a mattress directly on the slats? Thank you!

The problem is I need a super firm hard foundation surface under my purple mattress and a box spring does not support a purple mattress enough. The mattress will sag on the left and right side of the center bar as the box spring weakens over time.

I think you should always use a box spring or foundation of some sort to properly support the mattress. My daughter has a bed that has a trundle underneath so she has a bunkie board as her support. I had to buy the foundation and the mattress as to not void the warranty.

Do you think we would need a box spring on top of the slats? or perhaps make the slats into a more complete surface with plywood? or maybe just the Endy on slats? Thanks for your thoughts.
