Love this! Thank you! My TC5 delivers next Thursday…. I’m a miners wife, we run UTV’s and ATV’s through the mud for fun, AND I’m a dog lover….. that said, I am so over fighting with modern design washers! If you can even call them washers! I need water, I need TRUE hot (not temp control like all the new ones have), and I need agitation. Can’t wait til she gets here!
I think you’re going to like it. It’s not a miracle machine but I feel it is so far superior in build quality and in performance that it is well worth the money. Hope it works well for you

@@brendame - you should also have a “deep fill” button… when you push that, it’ll fill all the way up… the “normal/eco” cycle uses the least water, but my favorite setting is “heavy duty” with no extra rinses needed…..
Our TC5 arrives on Tuesday. Very excited. We almost bought an LG that was visually identical to the one in this video, but found a Speed Queen dealer and went that route. After seeing this video, I am super happy we picked the Speed Queen! Cost wise, the LG was $800 and the Speed Queen was $1300, so the extra money was significant but not a deal breaker given Speed Queen's reputation for quality and longevity. I was torn between the TR7 and the TC5. I love all the features of the TR7, the quiet operation, and the 7 year warranty. But, the TR7 has more electronics and sensors. The TC-5 doesn't have much in the way of electronics and few to no sensors at all. I like that. Also the TC5 has a 15 year warranty on the transmission. That hit home for me because it was the transmission that failed in our Maytag after only 5 years, which is why we were in the unhappy position of shopping for a new washing machine in the first place. Not looking forward to the noise level but getting the wash done in 30 minutes will mitigate that. Thanks for the great video!

When you think of it, that $500 went all towards all that that makes the TC5 so much different and better. Drum, agitator transmission, steel all over inside, warranty, robust, more powerful, etc. When you look at it that way, it's not really 1300, but rather 800 + 500 to seriously beef it up to become good.
Let me weigh in on all of this. After 20 years of flawless use, my Maytag washer began to leak oil. I can fix the issue, and I will, but will tackle this matter at a later date. I'll get this wonderful machine back up and running, and for very little cost. But the time had come for a new washer, so off to a Speed Queen dealer I went. I read tons of reviews and ended up with the classic TC5. I chose this model due to its simplicity, and, most importantly, because it does not have a lid lock. You can just open the top when you want and throw something in, if needed. It also washes very similar to my old, trusty Maytag. Now, whatever you do, don't listen to all the negative reviews. The TC5 washes great, and it has enough settings to satisfy your needs. The Normal/Eco mode I use for really small loads, as it only fills up about a 1/3 of the way. Other than that, I basically do large loads on the heavy duty setting, and thus far have had flawless results. Now, I almost went with the TR5, which employs the new washing design, which moves the water through the clothes. And I think, for most people, this washer will perform very well. Most Americans overwash their clothes, so beating them to death is not needed. If you are a farmer, or someone who really needs the extra efficacy of the TC5 model, then get that model. In any case, in all my years of washing clothes, I really never have given any thought to the "wear and tear" the washer took on my clothes. Just never gave it any thought. And it's clear my old trusty Maytag, which supposedly beats the &^%%$ out of your clothes, didn't do any harm to my or my wife's attire. In fact, when I asked her about this matter, she didn't express any concern at all. She just said, "Get one like the Maytag we've been using for all these years." "Okay, dear, I'll get the TC5." In any case, thus far I think the TC5 is a great performing machine. We just don't need all the bells and whistles and options in the TR series, although many have raved over the TR line (despite the critics). I love how fast and effective the TC5 is. Sure, it has its limitations, but it does 95 percent of what we need to do. My only gripe is that Speed Queen needs to upgrade the knobs and switches, because they feel cheap to me. The molded knobs make squeaking noises, and the switches themselves kind of have too much play to them, making them "feel" sort of cheap. But they will no doubt last many, many years, and we really don't change them all that much. I also don't like the four plane roof slant of the top door. Any significant weight causes it to temporarily buckle, but it pops right back. This is annoying if you are trying to work in the back of the unit and are apply pressure with your chest as your reach over. I also would like to see the water filling the unit with the top cover in the upright position. Also, when you lift the top cover, it should rest firmly on some sort of bumper, not on the knobs. Small complaints, yes, but things that they could improve on. I love this washer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just get it!!!!!
@@kimbok5971 Oh no! I'm sorry you are disappointed with the unit. What don't you like about it? Since posting my review on this model 8 months ago I've been very happy with how the TC5 performs. I use the heavy duty setting, hot water option, and either normal or deep fill. My clothes come out great. And the best thing I like about it is how quick it will do a load. I guess we all have different needs and expectations.
Finally a video of someone using this washer the right way. You let the water go in and then you added the soap once you had water inside. I see too many videos of people not doing this with this washer, good to see you know how to use this washer the right way

Great video. If you perform an internet search for Speed Queen TC5 Cycle Matrix it'll show the differences in water usuage based on cycle selected. Ranges from 13 gallons up to 19 gallons when deep fill is selected. I've owned my set since 2019 with no issues, best purchase hands down. Good luck with your set!
I was looking at dryers from speed queen to match. There's the more basic version that doesn't have as long of warranty, but then there's a energy star dryer with a longer warranty. I tend to be wary of the energy star, but wasn't sure if that didn't really effect the dryer with the longer warranty. I like to buy products that last.
Glad it helped, I don’t know much about the speed Queen dryers but I think they are supposed to be good. Dryers are pretty simple though I don’t think you go wrong with a SQ
I would prefer the Speed Queen TC5 over the LG Direct Drive. If I went for a direct drive washer I would prefer the old school Whirlpool/Kenmore direct drive machines from the 1990s or 2000s.

I’m so excited for my new SQ set coming next week! All it took was asking my husband to do a load of laundry for me while I was gone for the day. Lol. Let me add, he never does laundry. The load should have been done & in the dryer by noon, I got back at 5 and he had just put it in the dryer!! He said how do you get anything else done in a day?! I’ve had to babysit this washer all day! Lol. Then he added, you go out tomorrow & buy a new washer! Get a speed queen. Haha. I’ve had the LG “direct drive” set since 2013 & have dealt with various issues from the get go. The biggest frustration was I could never put too big or too small of loads in without it giving me the uneven load signal, and it wouldn’t continue until I paused, reposition clothes and tried again. And putting in just a few lightweight garments was out of the question. One plus that I figured out on my own is, if you want a full tub of water, just pause the cycle about 6 min in, when it first starts to wash, open the lid & close & push start again, it fills all the way up and continues to wash. I do that all the time cuz I wanna see my clothes swish!
Just got a TC5. This review is accurate. Slightly loud during the drain phase but otherwise not bad. Cleans well. Reliable. No machines I know of use insulation. The drone is from the torque of the drain motor or types of electric motors it uses. They are not quiet but will probably last very long time. It is essentially a no frills, commercial machine.
We have the same LG washer I believe, and I use the deep wash function on larger loads. Haven't had a problem. But I just recently heard about Speed Queen. It will be our next washer.
All the bells and whistles of many washers don't perform well. Speed Queen on the other hand when you get a machine like the TC5 it has just the basic controls, great agitation and clothing comes out CLEAN ! Speed Queen is a Commercial Heavy Duty machine that is built to last for 25 years as estimated by Speed Queen. Yes they may cost a bit more at purchase time, but it's built like a tank and will not have frequent service calls like many other brands. Everyone has a choice, cheaper price and then have to replace a washer after just a few years or buy quality !

@@angelarea6913 I have King size linens. I wash sheets and light spreads, but use a large commercial washer for heavy comforters and heavy blankets. I think it would wash with no problem, but it would fill up the tub.
The Normal ECO cycle has been jokingly referred to as the "Department of Energy" cycle. It's purposefully stingy with water/energy so it meets the D0E efficiency regulations and should probably be avoided except for very small loads. The LG was built with those requirements in mind. In your video, I see that the LG does offer a Deep Fill button on the right side of the panel. I believe it read "Water Plus". Thank you for the video.
I had my maytag for 44 yrs, hubbie made one easy repair, I left it with the house when I sold the house and I regret not bringing it with me to this day, I miss it.

This is a good choice for those looking for a top load washer which functions similar to older style machines built before the federal energy mandates which began impacting consumers in the mid 2000's. I agree the noise level, lack of water level options and other missing features is a point of concern for this machine, especially for a machine at this price point. One can overcome the noise problem by installing sound insulation inside the cabinet walls of the machine, this is an easy task for a DIYer. All washers will fail at some point, some much sooner than later. This machine should last several years before a major repair is needed. Another point of concern is the cost and method to replace the tube seal and bearing in this machine in comparison to its competition.
We’ve done a king size comforter in ours, and it did it. No problem however, our comforter is not a super puffy one. I think the main thing is when you put it in make sure that it is as evenly distributed as you can get. Otherwise in the spin cycle, it can get off balance.
@@EveryBladeOfGrass1 a water control could be added from what I understand this just uses a pressure switch that is pre-set and then a timer provides more water after that switch cuts off for deep-fill... technically an old school washer pressure switch and knob could be added, i dont believe its a transducer.. interestingly enough my Speed queen TR7 (newer wash system style) has full water control with low-medium-high-auto.. that wash action isnt quite as good as the TC5 in my opinion, however my clothes get so much cleaner and nicer than my LG frontlaoder I had did.. I have had my SQ since 2019. I even wash mt diesel-work clothes in it from when im working on my vintage busses and it gets them pretty clean.. i use extra rinse
Thinking of buying a TC5. Concerns are that they use a lot of water and hard on clothes. I"m also thinking of relocating so can I still obtains service if I need it.
We have not found it to be rough on clothes at all. It does have a delicate cycle. On the delicate cycle, it will agitate stop for a while let the clothes soak, and then agitate again.
My lg has more settings than this one. Its 8yrs old but im contemplating on buying a Speed Queen. I guess when my lg goes out sq will be my next washer im wuite impressed
Greatly appreciate the review, unfortunately as a six year owner of an LG direct drive I have to disagree. When I purchased the LG, it was $600, less than half the cost of the SQ. I do a lot of laundry as a result of going to the gym and cutting my lawn, which in Florida summers can be almost every two weeks , plus having my two girls, we are always doing laundry. From small loads to large ones- king size comforter, I have had no issues in the last six years. I switched from fabric softener to vinegar about a year go and my clothes come out clean without any smell. In the last month, I’ve had to replace three parts. All repairs were made following utube videos and parts were found on Amazon. I was impressed at how easily it was to repair the LG and the total cost of parts was $160. I’ve ran 28 loads and had no issues. I have no doubt that the SQ is a great washing machine but at $1,300, more than double the cost of the LG, unless I was a farmer or a welder, I don’t see the SQ price as justified. That leads me to the comparison you made and a category that was absent. Value. For the average consumer, the LG will be adequate, while the SQ is superior, it’s does not provide tangible benefits that justify the increase in price. With that said, I greatly appreciate the comparison and look forward to more content.
Thank you! With our Samsung, twice within 4 years have replaced the 4 corner springs that keep the drum balanced. Sick of these techno-cheap machines. Gonna go back to old school.
Just bought the TC5 and almost returned it due to the lid latch/lid lock what ever you want to call it. I did do the clothespin hack which is sad when you are spending close to $1400 now for this unit. For those looking to invest in the Speed Queen units make sure you understand the lid latch function as it may be a show stopper for you. Other than that the unit is heavy/feels solid, is on the noisier side, aggressive agitation, and feel like the clothes were washed well. Another thing to note is the deep fill option is really not necessary as the tub fills 3/4 quarters without enabled. With deep fill enabled it almost touches the white liner on top of tub. If water level and noise level are things you are concerned with the SR series maybe the units you want to look into. Time will tell if the TC5 unit will last like the old ones did. Will see if this was a good investment. : )
We've had a similar LG washer from around 2018 or so. I personally hate it. It doesn't wash as well as the LG front load washer it replaced, lint is a major issue as well. I would NEVER buy another. I have never experienced dry sections of clothes as you have.
@@EveryBladeOfGrass1 It's totally electronic so yes, it can fail. Mine did beeping at random times, night and day or during a wash. Not even a year old. Mother board replaced but other quirks have me unhappy.
We too had the same problem with our impeller type Whirlpool as you did with your LG. "Washed" clothes were dry in certain areas, soap often still sitting on top, athletic clothes still stinky after washing. This is apparently how ALL of the big box store brand washers now operate. Totally frustrated, We got the Speed Queen TR7 with an agitator which works differently from the TC5 agitator, hence NOT eventually destroying my wife's bras or the elastic strap corners on our sheets as the TC5 would unless set on gentle. Very quiet. You choose your water level, temperature, can wash a king size comforter, You customize the wash time and agitation. Clothes come out very clean. Extra cost well worth it. Comes with normal 7 year warranty. The decision is yours.
i bought a whirlpool 5000 with the wash plate in 2019. From the start unless you are doing a very small load you have to add more water if you want clean clothes. I added a Y at the faucets so I can feed the washer, a hose or both. To do a wash I put the clothes in , add detergent, and let the machine fill itself. When it starts to agitate i open it and add water if I think it needs it. This works but it means yopu have to babysit it for the first 5-10 minutes. These new style washers are also not designed with robustness in mind, to much plastic and poor design choices. The new style uses suspension rods and those need replacing every few years because it's just a bad design. The manufacturer doesn't fix it because they know many will just go out and buy a new machine and since whirlpool makes most of the brands they really don't care, If you say to hell with it and buy a Samsung your really screwed because the reoairman will be at your house several times a year. In the end your better off payimg for the speed queen because they rally are built like the old machines and can last a couple of decades and come with a 5 or 7 year warrantee that covers EVERYTING. The Whirlpool has a 1 year and then a 5 year on the motor that never fails anyway - replacing those suspension rods every 2 or 3 years will more than the machine did in short order.
Have the older 2017 model and rarely would use the "small" because the garments are so close to the agitator and could get quite a beating. However, maybe a half tub would have been good for small. This one looks like a bit more than half for non-deep fill.
@@MatthewJames-st5wv Which reminds me, our Kenmore models back in the 80's had a dial for the water level for a kind of variable water level! Still also hoping for a TC7 that's brings back a lot of options like the previous models, and has the options separated out again (soak, rinse, etc). I guess it costs less to combine them onto a dial, but less user control. i.e. I want a soak, but no extra rinse, or want to select Heavy Soil with other options.
How much vibration does the TC5 have when washing a big load? It looks like the TR5/7 has minimal vibration, but wondering about the TC5 with the different agitation system.
@@EveryBladeOfGrass1 Thanks for the info. I have been going back-and-forth between the TR7 and the TC5. The washer would be in a partially finished basement that is used as an work-from-home office once in a while. A quiet washer would be a small perk, but a loud one isn't a deal breaker. My big concern is that the washer would be on a raised pad- I had a fear that the TC5 might agitate it's way off of the pad (about 5 inches of wiggle room front and sides). My current front load moves a bit, but never has shaken itself off.

For the price of a Speed Queen, you think they could provide a glass/plastic top so you could watch the wash action like most all other manufacturers these days.
Speed Queens have long term reliability issues. They break down, and once they break down, they are EXPENSIVE to replace. Their older machines and commercial grade laundromat top loaders are good, but newer ones don't.
So I definitely would recommend a speed Queen tc5 to anyone that wants the classic wash action and only does large loads of laundry because the tc5 does not have an autofill nor does it have a water control option. That machine will only fill either 75% full or to 100% full with deep fill on. I would not recommend the TR line of speed Queen to anyone because the TR line does not have the classic wash action like the tc5. It has what they call the perfect wash system. Yes, it has an agitator but the agitator itself does not move the entire drum moves and you don't have the rollover action. So you'll have clothes sitting on top that never gets submerged in the water. Now for someone that wants to control their water level and still have that classic wash action, I would recommend the new Maytag commercial washer. That machine has the dual spiral agitator that you would see in most most Kenmore top load washers Even though it is a belt-driven washer it has that classic wash action that you would see in the old school direct drive. Whirlpools the ones that I like to say they beat your clothes clean. That's what this new Maytag has. And the plus side is it gives you the water control option. Large medium small. I have the TR7 and I'm looking into getting rid of mine and going to the new Maytag because I want the traditional wash action but I don't want to lose the option to control my water level
They call it the "perfect wash" system? I have a TR7. I bought it in May 2023. The LAST THING I would call its performance is "perfect wash" more like "perfect crap!" 😆
@@vivian9803 exactly. I gave mine to my mom as a backup and bought an LG top loader and so far my clothes come out clean and smelling great. My clothes never came out smelling clean or even looked clean in my tr7
The ideal top loader would have the washing action of the Maytag 586, the controls and features of the TR7, the capacity of the LG (5.5 cu ft). I don't understand why these drums don't have diagonal running vertical fins to create a vortex, while the agitator motion spirals downward to suck the clothes towards the bottom then pushed back out to the sides. An ultrasonic device built into the agitator might help dislodge stains even further (just a guess).
I will always respect the proud clique of Speed Queen lovers, especially for the TC5. For the love of God, please cease bashing the He washer's alleged inability to clean and fill with water. Most end-users are too heavy-handed with detergents, softeners, bleach, etc., which is the crux of most problems with low-water washers. I'm none too impressed with SQ's meager 3.2 cu ft capacity with regards to bulky King-sized comforters; other than that, it appears to be a damn fine washer.
I own Speed Queen...both washer and dryer, they are excellent, simple and get right down to washing things, no just peeing on the clothes and taking over an hour to do a load of laundry...lg=garbage , as well as samsung
There is really no comparison at all. The t c five is a commercial machi d and proven in its performance and reliability. The lg is junk Because it does not use enough water and grinds your full load of clothing to a pulp.
I wish people would use the right words. It does have an agitator. It's a different type of agitator. The agitators are at the bottom of the tub. One is called a wash plate. And the nubs on the side of the tub are also agitators Many people just cant figure out these wash plate TL washers. It is not brain surgery. I had an LG WT5270 that I used for a year. The only thing I didnt like about it is that it didnt wash comforters well. It would just shimmy them in a tub of water. But everything else washed wonderfully. He probably overloaded the LG like many tend to do and then said, "Gee it doesn't work well." You especially don't overload these wash plate type washers His LG has an extra water setting, which he probably didn't realize was there. And depending on soil level and type of fabric determines strength of agitation and length of wash. A cycle can take up to 3 hours to do one load. It isn't going to clean clothes in 35 minutes If you want a standard center post agitator there are only two on the market in USA you should buy. One is made by Speed Queen and the other is made by Maytag. Hmm, maybe one of the Fisher and Paykel models?. IF you want front load action with Top loaD convenience why aren't people looking at the STABER?
I have owned an LG direct drive too loader for six years and it works great! From small loads to large ones, clothes always came out clean and at $600, it’s half the cost of a SQ. Even if the LG fails, you can buy another LG and still be less than what you paid for a SQ. Now, if the SQ last 30 years, it was worth it, but I have read on other forums the newer SQ lasting only ten years and the parts were very expensive to replace.

SpeedQueen TR5 owner 5 kids. Honestly we would change nothing. Best purchase we’ve ever made. Not cheap but worth every penny.

The molded knobs make squeaking noises, and the switches themselves kind of have too much play to them, making them "feel" sort of cheap. But they will no doubt last many, many years, and we really don't change them all that much. I also don't like the four plane roof slant of the top door. Any significant weight causes it to temporarily buckle, but it pops right back. This is annoying if you are trying to work in the back of the unit and are apply pressure with your chest as your reach over. I also would like to see the water filling the unit with the top cover in the upright position. Also, when you lift the top cover, it should rest firmly on some sort of bumper, not on the knobs. Small complaints, yes, but things that they could improve on. I love this washer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just get it!!!!!

I use the heavy duty setting, hot water option, and either normal or deep fill. My clothes come out great. And the best thing I like about it is how quick it will do a load. I guess we all have different needs and expectations.

Great video. If you perform an internet search for Speed Queen TC5 Cycle Matrix it'll show the differences in water usuage based on cycle selected. Ranges from 13 gallons up to 19 gallons when deep fill is selected. I've owned my set since 2019 with no issues, best purchase hands down. Good luck with your set!

I was looking at dryers from speed queen to match. There's the more basic version that doesn't have as long of warranty, but then there's a energy star dryer with a longer warranty. I tend to be wary of the energy star, but wasn't sure if that didn't really effect the dryer with the longer warranty. I like to buy products that last.

I would prefer the Speed Queen TC5 over the LG Direct Drive. If I went for a direct drive washer I would prefer the old school Whirlpool/Kenmore direct drive machines from the 1990s or 2000s.
The newer direct drives aren’t as good. I’ll always have an agitation washer

All it took was asking my husband to do a load of laundry for me while I was gone for the day. Lol. Let me add, he never does laundry. The load should have been done & in the dryer by noon, I got back at 5 and he had just put it in the dryer!! He said how do you get anything else done in a day?! I’ve had to babysit this washer all day! Lol. Then he added, you go out tomorrow & buy a new washer! Get a speed queen. Haha.
I’ve had the LG “direct drive” set since 2013 & have dealt with various issues from the get go. The biggest frustration was I could never put too big or too small of loads in without it giving me the uneven load signal, and it wouldn’t continue until I paused, reposition clothes and tried again. And putting in just a few lightweight garments was out of the question.
One plus that I figured out on my own is, if you want a full tub of water, just pause the cycle about 6 min in, when it first starts to wash, open the lid & close & push start again, it fills all the way up and continues to wash. I do that all the time cuz I wanna see my clothes swish!

Just got a TC5. This review is accurate. Slightly loud during the drain phase but otherwise not bad. Cleans well. Reliable. No machines I know of use insulation. The drone is from the torque of the drain motor or types of electric motors it uses. They are not quiet but will probably last very long time. It is essentially a no frills, commercial machine.
We still feel it’s the best machine we’ve had, hoping for many years of service

We have the same LG washer I believe, and I use the deep wash function on larger loads. Haven't had a problem. But I just recently heard about Speed Queen. It will be our next washer.

All the bells and whistles of many washers don't perform well. Speed Queen on the other hand when you get a machine like the TC5 it has just the basic controls, great agitation and clothing comes out CLEAN ! Speed Queen is a Commercial Heavy Duty machine that is built to last for 25 years as estimated by Speed Queen. Yes they may cost a bit more at purchase time, but it's built like a tank and will not have frequent service calls like many other brands. Everyone has a choice, cheaper price and then have to replace a washer after just a few years or buy quality !
It was a toss up for me between the SQ & Maytag with agitator. So glad I paid the extra & went with SQ TC5.

@@angelarea6913 I have King size linens. I wash sheets and light spreads, but use a large commercial washer for heavy comforters and heavy blankets. I think it would wash with no problem, but it would fill up the tub.
The Normal ECO cycle has been jokingly referred to as the "Department of Energy" cycle. It's purposefully stingy with water/energy so it meets the D0E efficiency regulations and should probably be avoided except for very small loads. The LG was built with those requirements in mind.
In your video, I see that the LG does offer a Deep Fill button on the right side of the panel. I believe it read "Water Plus".

This is a good choice for those looking for a top load washer which functions similar to older style machines built before the federal energy mandates which began impacting consumers in the mid 2000's. I agree the noise level, lack of water level options and other missing features is a point of concern for this machine, especially for a machine at this price point. One can overcome the noise problem by installing sound insulation inside the cabinet walls of the machine, this is an easy task for a DIYer. All washers will fail at some point, some much sooner than later. This machine should last several years before a major repair is needed. Another point of concern is the cost and method to replace the tube seal and bearing in this machine in comparison to its competition.

Can you wash a king size comforter in it? You said the sheets, etc but what about the actual blanket (will it fit)?
We’ve done a king size comforter in ours, and it did it. No problem however, our comforter is not a super puffy one. I think the main thing is when you put it in make sure that it is as evenly distributed as you can get. Otherwise in the spin cycle, it can get off balance.
People need to design the washer to have longer agitation strokes for larger loads…

@@EveryBladeOfGrass1 a water control could be added from what I understand this just uses a pressure switch that is pre-set and then a timer provides more water after that switch cuts off for deep-fill... technically an old school washer pressure switch and knob could be added, i dont believe its a transducer.. interestingly enough my Speed queen TR7 (newer wash system style) has full water control with low-medium-high-auto.. that wash action isnt quite as good as the TC5 in my opinion, however my clothes get so much cleaner and nicer than my LG frontlaoder I had did.. I have had my SQ since 2019. I even wash mt diesel-work clothes in it from when im working on my vintage busses and it gets them pretty clean.. i use extra rinse

Thinking of buying a TC5. Concerns are that they use a lot of water and hard on clothes. I"m also thinking of relocating so can I still obtains service if I need it.
for sure it uses more water but I don't think it is as hard on clothes as you would think it would be. We have not noticed any problems so far.

We have not found it to be rough on clothes at all. It does have a delicate cycle. On the delicate cycle, it will agitate stop for a while let the clothes soak, and then agitate again.
My lg has more settings than this one. Its 8yrs old but im contemplating on buying a Speed Queen. I guess when my lg goes out sq will be my next washer im wuite impressed

Greatly appreciate the review, unfortunately as a six year owner of an LG direct drive I have to disagree.
When I purchased the LG, it was $600, less than half the cost of the SQ. I do a lot of laundry as a result of going to the gym and cutting my lawn, which in Florida summers can be almost every two weeks , plus having my two girls, we are always doing laundry.
From small loads to large ones- king size comforter, I have had no issues in the last six years. I switched from fabric softener to vinegar about a year go and my clothes come out clean without any smell.
In the last month, I’ve had to replace three parts. All repairs were made following utube videos and parts were found on Amazon. I was impressed at how easily it was to repair the LG and the total cost of parts was $160. I’ve ran 28 loads and had no issues.
I have no doubt that the SQ is a great washing machine but at $1,300, more than double the cost of the LG, unless I was a farmer or a welder, I don’t see the SQ price as justified.
That leads me to the comparison you made and a category that was absent.
Value. For the average consumer, the LG will be adequate, while the SQ is superior, it’s does not provide tangible benefits that justify the increase in price.
With that said, I greatly appreciate the comparison and look forward to more content.

With our Samsung, twice within 4 years have replaced the 4 corner springs that keep the drum balanced. Sick of these techno-cheap machines.

You have to use deep fill for blankets.
Our blankets do fine without using the deep fill on the smaller blankets but if King size I’d use deep fill
Just bought the TC5 and almost returned it due to the lid latch/lid lock what ever you want to call it. I did do the clothespin hack which is sad when you are spending close to $1400 now for this unit. For those looking to invest in the Speed Queen units make sure you understand the lid latch function as it may be a show stopper for you. Other than that the unit is heavy/feels solid, is on the noisier side, aggressive agitation, and feel like the clothes were washed well. Another thing to note is the deep fill option is really not necessary as the tub fills 3/4 quarters without enabled. With deep fill enabled it almost touches the white liner on top of tub. If water level and noise level are things you are concerned with the SR series maybe the units you want to look into. Time will tell if the TC5 unit will last like the old ones did. Will see if this was a good investment. : )

We've had a similar LG washer from around 2018 or so. I personally hate it. It doesn't wash as well as the LG front load washer it replaced, lint is a major issue as well. I would NEVER buy another. I have never experienced dry sections of clothes as you have.

We too had the same problem with our impeller type Whirlpool as you did with your LG. "Washed" clothes were dry in certain areas, soap often still sitting on top, athletic clothes still stinky after washing. This is apparently how ALL of the big box store brand washers now operate. Totally frustrated, We got the Speed Queen TR7 with an agitator which works differently from the TC5 agitator, hence NOT eventually destroying my wife's bras or the elastic strap corners on our sheets as the TC5 would unless set on gentle. Very quiet. You choose your water level, temperature, can wash a king size comforter, You customize the wash time and agitation. Clothes come out very clean. Extra cost well worth it. Comes with normal 7 year warranty. The decision is yours.

i bought a whirlpool 5000 with the wash plate in 2019. From the start unless you are doing a very small load you have to add more water if you want clean clothes. I added a Y at the faucets so I can feed the washer, a hose or both.
To do a wash I put the clothes in , add detergent, and let the machine fill itself. When it starts to agitate i open it and add water if I think it needs it. This works but it means yopu have to babysit it for the first 5-10 minutes.
These new style washers are also not designed with robustness in mind, to much plastic and poor design choices. The new style uses suspension rods and those need replacing every few years because it's just a bad design. The manufacturer doesn't fix it because they know many will just go out and buy a new machine and since whirlpool makes most of the brands they really don't care, If you say to hell with it and buy a Samsung your really screwed because the reoairman will be at your house several times a year.
In the end your better off payimg for the speed queen because they rally are built like the old machines and can last a couple of decades and come with a 5 or 7 year warrantee that covers EVERYTING. The Whirlpool has a 1 year and then a 5 year on the motor that never fails anyway - replacing those suspension rods every 2 or 3 years will more than the machine did in short order.

The government doesn’t want you washing small loads because it wastes energy, hence why the load size selector option was removed.
Have the older 2017 model and rarely would use the "small" because the garments are so close to the agitator and could get quite a beating. However, maybe a half tub would have been good for small. This one looks like a bit more than half for non-deep fill.

Still also hoping for a TC7 that's brings back a lot of options like the previous models, and has the options separated out again (soak, rinse, etc). I guess it costs less to combine them onto a dial, but less user control. i.e. I want a soak, but no extra rinse, or want to select Heavy Soil with other options.

How much vibration does the TC5 have when washing a big load? It looks like the TR5/7 has minimal vibration, but wondering about the TC5 with the different agitation system.
In our experience, even with bigger loads very little vibration. The machine is loud similar to the old school washers.

The washer would be in a partially finished basement that is used as an work-from-home office once in a while. A quiet washer would be a small perk, but a loud one isn't a deal breaker. My big concern is that the washer would be on a raised pad- I had a fear that the TC5 might agitate it's way off of the pad (about 5 inches of wiggle room front and sides). My current front load moves a bit, but never has shaken itself off.

They actually are always foggy so it doesn’t really matter. The TC five does not have a lid lock so you could open them to see.
It really doesn't need it as with the TC5 it does not have the lid lock and you can lift it any time you wish.
Speed Queens have long term reliability issues. They break down, and once they break down, they are EXPENSIVE to replace. Their older machines and commercial grade laundromat top loaders are good, but newer ones don't.
Also, I have never seen that LG top loader, seems like an ultra base line machine...

So I definitely would recommend a speed Queen tc5 to anyone that wants the classic wash action and only does large loads of laundry because the tc5 does not have an autofill nor does it have a water control option. That machine will only fill either 75% full or to 100% full with deep fill on. I would not recommend the TR line of speed Queen to anyone because the TR line does not have the classic wash action like the tc5. It has what they call the perfect wash system. Yes, it has an agitator but the agitator itself does not move the entire drum moves and you don't have the rollover action. So you'll have clothes sitting on top that never gets submerged in the water. Now for someone that wants to control their water level and still have that classic wash action, I would recommend the new Maytag commercial washer. That machine has the dual spiral agitator that you would see in most most Kenmore top load washers Even though it is a belt-driven washer it has that classic wash action that you would see in the old school direct drive. Whirlpools the ones that I like to say they beat your clothes clean. That's what this new Maytag has. And the plus side is it gives you the water control option. Large medium small. I have the TR7 and I'm looking into getting rid of mine and going to the new Maytag because I want the traditional wash action but I don't want to lose the option to control my water level

The ideal top loader would have the washing action of the Maytag 586, the controls and features of the TR7, the capacity of the LG (5.5 cu ft).
I don't understand why these drums don't have diagonal running vertical fins to create a vortex, while the agitator motion spirals downward to suck the clothes towards the bottom then pushed back out to the sides.
An ultrasonic device built into the agitator might help dislodge stains even further (just a guess).
Get to work on that and you’ll be a billionaire you can call it the MadLad 3000

I will always respect the proud clique of Speed Queen lovers, especially for the TC5. For the love of God, please cease bashing the He washer's alleged inability to clean and fill with water. Most end-users are too heavy-handed with detergents, softeners, bleach, etc., which is the crux of most problems with low-water washers. I'm none too impressed with SQ's meager 3.2 cu ft capacity with regards to bulky King-sized comforters; other than that, it appears to be a damn fine washer.

I wish people would use the right words. It does have an agitator. It's a different type of agitator. The agitators are at the bottom of the tub. One is called a wash plate. And the nubs on the side of the tub are also agitators
Many people just cant figure out these wash plate TL washers. It is not brain surgery.
I had an LG WT5270 that I used for a year. The only thing I didnt like about it is that it didnt wash comforters well. It would just shimmy them in a tub of water. But everything else washed wonderfully.
He probably overloaded the LG like many tend to do and then said, "Gee it doesn't work well." You especially don't overload these wash plate type washers
His LG has an extra water setting, which he probably didn't realize was there. And depending on soil level and type of fabric determines strength of agitation and length of wash. A cycle can take up to 3 hours to do one load. It isn't going to clean clothes in 35 minutes
If you want a standard center post agitator there are only two on the market in USA you should buy. One is made by Speed Queen and the other is made by Maytag. Hmm, maybe one of the Fisher and Paykel models?. IF you want front load action with Top loaD convenience why aren't people looking at the STABER?

Even if the LG fails, you can buy another LG and still be less than what you paid for a SQ. Now, if the SQ last 30 years, it was worth it, but I have read on other forums the newer SQ lasting only ten years and the parts were very expensive to replace.
