I mean I once had a theory that the best way to introduce Dr. Doom in the MCU in a believable manner was to have him be an evil Tony Stark. I did NOT expect RDJ to actually play as Victor which wasn't on my 2024 bingo card.
There are a few things to take into considerations that this reveal is just a disguise. 1. They said with the many possibility, 2. Now the reveal RDJ is back in the MCU, 3. The Iron Man open arms stand, 4. The eye blink signaling.
I think RDJ will play Iron Man and all this revealing is to attract attention to the change from Kang Dynasty to Doom Dynasty.

At least I hope that's the reason, because as much as I love RDJ, recasting a fan favorite as another character may not be the best course of action. I'm hoping that Feige at least has some sort of complex plan that will explain this.

It does make the most bit of sense. In terms of a 1:1 comparison, Doctor Doom is closer to Iron Man than he is to Mr. Fantastic Four. They most probably will try and say that he's a variant of Iron Man that never had the life Tony did. He may even portray himself as a more of a pessimist with a serious grudge against the status quo. If you're doing a multiverse movie, chances are that you might need to use some multiversal madness to keep the movie going. Also, if you think about it, it would be crazy if everyone that knew Tony saw Doom and was like...Tony?! The replay value is high with that, I can imagine.
