    True, you're not fearless. But 'feel the fear and do it anyway' is not fearless, it is courageous.

    You sound like I did in my youth. It is lovely! I lost track of me over the years, becoming a Mama of four and all that that implies, but am excited I found my way back to my former thoughtful enthusiasm! I am thoroughly enjoying your vlog!
    Do yourself a favor as you journey through your life... Watch this very vlog again, periodically. You know, just put it in your calendar for every two years or so. Change the season you view it in. I say this because I am a nosey Mom giving out my two cents (lol) and because what you say in this vlog is what I lost track of. I wish I hadn't because I would have had a much easier time in many spaces and instances on my journey.
    Never lose your youthful enthusiasm!
    Take care!
    Joanie

      This is probably one of the most thoughtful and insightful comments I've ever received. Thanks for opening up and sharing your wisdom and encouragement! I'm glad you found your way back to your enthusiasm. And I hope you keep sharing your wisdom with others as I found it really touching! x Nesha

    Hope you enjoy this video of our first narrowboat cruise! Comment below & let us know - do you prefer cruising rivers or canals? We preferred the river!
    I would have shown you much more but we didn't film many locks or tricky parts of the journey as were trying to concentrate... or panicking! Haha. We had lots of highs and lows that weren't featured in this vid - like passing the "All Vessels Turn Right" sign on the river trent, carrying on and coming aground. Or losing control of the boat on the tidal section of the trent and almost crashing into a tree. But we finished the journey with minimal issues and got to see quite a few lovely places. Looking forward to cruising on it again in the future!

    Young enough to physically cope with a great adventure, this will be a time to remember and enjoy to the max (highs and lows make up life 💙).

    we are waiting for are brand new narrowboat which is a 65ft narrowboat.
    all we did was to hire day boats out think we did 4 or 5 boats out in different locations just so we could get some training on using a narrowboat there are helmsman courses that you can take as well but you should be fine just take your time there are many people out there that are willing to help you should you have any problems just watch out for the dreaded cill on the locks don't get hung up always forward of the cill. enjoy yourselves and hope to see you out there very very soon. bring on the next video love to see the progress that you make with your boat. Steve & Sandra.

      @DriftwoodFolk  Před 2 lety +2

      How exciting! Good luck with your brand new narrowboat :D Yes, thankfully we didn't get caught on any cills in the 32 locks on this journey but since the boat is only 45ft it's not too hard to avoid them

    Well spoken, you are opening up your world, and the beautiful English countryside too! All I can say is that you look really contented, and that is the main purpose of life…to be happy and to spread joy! Good luck to you following your dream 😌🙏

    We just completed 280 miles Gloucestershire to Yorkshire via the scenic route, bringing home the boat that my friend bought. I only ever seem to end up doing ridiculously long journeys! Took 42 days including 12 days stopped in Skipton waiting for a hole in the canal to be repaired.
    Rivers are prettier but canals are definitely easier and less stressful because you can stop almost anywhere. Breaking down on a river and ending up stuck in a tree was quite exciting. It's always an adventure though, never gets old, even when you've been doing it for years.

    • @DriftwoodFolk
      @DriftwoodFolk  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh my, 42 days is loooooong! Even with a 12 day break haha. Yes, it does help that you can stop virtually anywhere on a canal. I found the river easier because I hate going through bridges on the canals haha but you're right, it's kind of daunting knowing you can't just stop.
      Funnily enough you're the second person who has told me they got stuck in a tree on the river, and we almost did that too, so it must be a thing haha. Glad to hear you've been having lots of adventures aboard and living life to the full!

    Congratulations on your first cruise! Eeeee! No problem about not including more in the vid--you needed to concentrate! Ha ha. This is a whole new world for me and it's fun being introduced to it by both of you. I didn't know there were so many canals and rivers that connected. Very interesting! I like the tea cups, and the bloopers, too, of course. :) Onward!

    Well done , we know people who've been narrowboating years that wouldn't go on the tidal trent . We did it on a cruiser 20 odd years ago with a 15hp outboard. No issues , the kids loved Hazelford lock , with the island and all the pathways , is it still like that? Also I was going to say give us a wave when you come though stenson , but you already have , looking forward to more vlogs , cheers....Karl.

    • @DriftwoodFolk
      @DriftwoodFolk  Před 2 lety +4

      To be fair, we had no idea we were even going to be cruising on the trent until 30 mins before we set out haha. In our naivety, we thought it would be canals the whole way! Yes, we really liked Hazelford lock, it was really sweet and the town we walked into was lovely too. There was a beautiful pub not far but sadly we didn't get chance to visit. Maybe next time! Anyway, thanks for the support Karl and thanks for commenting! Much appreciated :D

      @DriftwoodFolk  Před 2 lety +4

    Well done on your first cruise which really was quite major. Would love to know more about the boat, how you found her and why you made this choice. Every boat story is unique as are the adventurous folks who find themselves captured by a canal boat adventure. Very best of luck to you, I think you will have a great journey.

    • @DriftwoodFolk
      @DriftwoodFolk  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks Bob! I'll make a video sharing more about what drew us to this boat. But we found her on ebay! Had a good feeling about her while on her - she felt roomy and spacious despite only being 45 ft. She has 6ft 6 headspace which was important because Mike is 6ft 4, and although it will only be me (Nesha) living on it at first, Mike will eventually live aboard too so we wanted something with lots of headspace. She also has a great hull (the lowest the baseplate goes is 10, it was originally 12.)
