I don't understand why he mentions standing in line. People do that all the time in the US. It's not just a mad dash for everything. Sure, there's some rude aholes, but I think most would just get in line. Super weird thing to mention.
Exactly...people in america will back slap u if you skip them in line that's the one difference though...it's about respect.

I know the video is titled for American tourists, but I think he was talking about tourist in general in most of the video. He even mentioned the Germans in this video and they are famous for not obeying lines. They obey every other rule but not the line rule.
@@ESUSAMEX Not just Germans! Our worst experiences in Europe was trying to stand in line. We were always grateful to see British people and we would get some type of line formed. We got so tired of being pushed. Americans do stand in line politely.
@@ESUSAMEXYeah, go to Italy and you can make a buddy at the bus stop who will then turn into a rabid jackal when the bus arrives... even if there's one right behind it.
Germany? They won't cross against a walk sign even if the road is only 10 feet across and you can clearly see for a mile that it's clear.
You'll be baffled why there's even a walk sign and then creeped out why everybody's waiting.

American here. I have been to England. It was an amazing vacation. Bath was my favorite place I went.

minute loved the people the weather everything! Each trip was amazing favorite Scotland and Wales just beautiful
mistake number 1 : going to england for a vacation
but seriously americans do say "half past 7" for 7:30, or "quarter to 8" meaning 7:45. they wont just say "half seven". adding prepositions allows it to work both ways. and anyone who isnt a futbol fan will not know what the three lions are. At first I thought it was referring to a royal familys crest or coat of arms.
That's also a generational and regional thing I think. My grandparents say "Quarter of" and "half past", I've never heard anyone else of another generation around me say it, so I always think I wish they would just say 7:30 or 8:00 instead lol.

We have 300+ year old inns in New England and the charm factor is high but Gaynor is right, there is a musty type smell that exists. It just comes with the experience. ❤

A couple minor ones:
Pubs: many Americans don't drink at all and so won't set foot in a pub because they think they're bars. American bars (especially the ones that resemble pubs) rarely sell any real food (if any at all). Pubs are basically restaurants.
Cold: in the UK, the weather can be quite arctic in the middle of summer.
Listen, the only way I'm visiting the UK is if I can meet Hyacinth Bouquet.

When he was talking about the old buildings, it got me thinking. As a fan of the TV show Doc Martin, I really want to visit some of those picturesque seaside villages in Cornwall. But as someone who is 6’7” tall, I noticed that the ceilings and doorways seem rather low. I mentioned this to a friend who grew up in Penzance, and she confirmed that I would spend much of my time inside stooped over.
If you think about going do research with tourist information from each county as they will know all the hotels and the B&B etc
1) I had never heard anyone, American or otherwise, say "half-seven." Americans, especially older ones who grew up without digital clocks, might say "half-past seven" to mean seven-thirty.
2) A fellow American once told me of his confusion when someone asked him in the UK, "where are you stopping at?" We would ask, "where are you staying?" for the night.
3) Aside from the occasional viral video of Americans madly rushing into a store opening on Black Friday, or something similar, we typically "queue up" politely, just like other civilized adults.
4) I have some news for the original video host: Plenty of Americans have a taste for beers and ales beyond brands like Bud Light. Warm beer or ale, on the other hand, is alien.
5) Many American sports franchises have fans who behave just like those of the "Three Lions."
6) Again, what is the video host talking about in regards to weather? Americans are familiar with unexpected weather changes and forecasts being inaccurate.
If I ever do make it to England, I'm going to Birmingham to check out the Black Sabbath Bridge and the Home of Metal exhibit. Love Sabbath and metal 🤘
That’s it! If I can make it over I’m going to Brighton! Beautiful beaches. And maybe hop over to Wales. Lots of beautiful places. And natural beauty, history. Especially the people
N.B Brighton beach and most other SE coast beaches are shingle (pebble) not sand.
Most castles are in North Wales , North East England and of course Scotland .
Beach wise they are everywhere in the UK and most have sand 😂
I have stayed B&B and hotels that were built in 1400,1600 and 1800's. Small stairs, floors not level. Some made from stone some from timber. Enjoyed them all. We do have nude beaches here in the US.

I think if a visitor rents a car in the UK the rental place should put an L on the back. Like they do for Learners. Over in US and Canada electric stoves and clothes dryers both plug into 240v central air conditioners are hard wired into 240v (no plug?
Once you have passed you get a P plate. That might be a better option.
Americans do have some 220V outlets, they're just only a few in key spots where a heavy duty appliance will go. In my (American) apartment there's one near the window on the wall for a window air conditioner and the kitchen has one for an electric stove and the bathroom closet has one for laundry machines. But all the rest are 110V outlets. It's not that we have to hardwire 220V appliances. There are 220V plugs. They're just in limited special places.
I just got back from two weeks in the UK (London, York, Edinburgh). We had a great time. The British were much nicer than I expected, as well (tbh, I was expecting some anti-American sentiment). I could have learned a lesson about the rail card. :) And yeah, the first pub we had to figure out what to do. We did see a 12.5% Service Charge on pretty much every meal. Definitely want to come back in the future and visit more northern England and Scotland.

Glad you survived the half day openings ( if people work Saturdays they have Wednesday off , Sunday opening is only after a long battle with the church and and workers rights with the unions hence the opening restrictions 10am - 4pm )
When I was there in '86, as well as a number of countries as I crossed the continent from Greece to Iceland, I used a Eurail and BritRail Pass, and spent my nights in youth hostels, which really helped my budget. Hmm! I noticed at around 15:10 that the name's been changed to NationalRail.
I'm no genius behind the wheel, but for some reason, the first time I drove over there (rented in Belfast, and drove west), I had absolutely no problem adjusting.

Americans do say half past 7 which gives you a clue. We also say 10 past, a quarter past or what have you. On the other half of the clock we say a 3:45 15 minutes before the hour.
We say just half seven ( not past) that’s what he is referring too.
The difference is that Americans explicitly say the preposition so you know it's *past* 7 rather than *before* 7 while in the UK it's just implied without being said and Americans aren't used to hearing it phrased that way and may need clarification whether you meant 6:30 vs 7:30).
Funny that guy said about the queuing in line, I lived here in Aus for 20 years after being from England and I’ll be waiting till someone gets off the train before I get on and people see that as a weekness lol and rush on and I’m standing there like a dick, like guys let people off what’s the major rush, and not just that, the trains are every 5 minutes if ya miss one no hassle 😂
I think queing is just the English way and exact right what Gaynor said then about if someone pushes in they get called a dick and everyone says something, but also here in Melbourne there are many different cultures and to some the aim is to get served or get on the train as fast as possible regardless who else is there

I was 8 when they hit America, so I live vicariously through those that were there in the beginning and how that felt - like my kids ask me what it was like to hear them in America for the first time. "half 7" is a shorthand for "half past 7" which Americans do sometimes say but Americans never omit the word "past" which is why we don't recognize thats what UK people are saying when they do

dont just do london,come north,yorkshire or wales,its cheaper if lost ask,were glad to help,use meal deals from greggs or m&s £3 for a sandwhich drink and crisps,morrisons do a cooked breakfast for £4.50,go to our coastal towns in yorkshire,bring a plug converter,if you cant get north cornwall or devon are gorgeous there south of london ,just explore,get a railcard youll save £££££s

Im sorry but little hole in the wall Inns and bed and breakfasts in England were some of the worst hospitality experiences Ive ever had to be frank. I e stayed at probably 5 of these in England and they were the worst sort of experiences. Just sayin… most Americans will not enjoy them.

Going to London and saying you have visited England is more like visiting NYC and saying you have visited New York.
The line/ que is what is wrong in the States now.. it is crazy... and I do think that is what started to go wrong, and now more and more is wrong.. its a society, we all live in it.. Gaynor, do you remember Sandy hook beach??? there is a nude beach there, on the northern part.. well, from Jersey (NYC area) I know that fans can love/ hate the team so well!! I do not like this guys videos, came on hime few years back, and just dont like his way of doing things.. but I am so happy you are doing videos based in England, let us see what you think on that area!

His tips aren't "tips" most of it is common curtesy. I watched his video about visiting the South and as a Southerner I can tell you, for the most part he was way off. Just because you visit places more than once does make you an expert on their ways and culture. Take his advice with a grain of salt.
