  • In this video we shall be diagnosing and fixing a 2016 Ford Galaxy with a 6DCT450 MPS6 Powershift gearbox. The vehicle was delivered on a recovery truck with a loss of drive, the customer fully expecting a new gearbox required diagnosis. The vehicle had multiple fault codes stored helping us establish a path to repair. Using a simple process of diagnosis we established the cause of the concern as a wiring concern and rectified it in a cost effective way. P0962, U0073, P0562, P060A, P0657, P2669, P2684, P0700

    Great diagnostic vid mate! I'm amazed as others have said that you've not been told to replace the loom. Our local stealer wouldn't do this at all. They would definitely only recommend a loom and that would be after a new tcm was fitted and didn't work. They just seem to chuck bits at jobs these days instead of (as you do), Repair faults! Well done. 👍

    Good find this one Steve could easily have been led down a rabbit hole here, I’ve very often had 12V(nbv)on a vehicle only to find the circuit when loaded won’t pass any current, as you say the manufacturer’s flow charts are very poor using resistance measurements instead of load testing ..... • @AlessandroGenTLe
      @AlessandroGenTLe Před 3 lety

      They do. At least I've seen in Alfa romeo Giulia manual that there are "connector repair kit" which are supposedly new connectors with new pins to install in it. Not cheap, and often you can find the connector MUCH cheaper around (i.e. the connector for the rear camera to body computer for the Giulia is a Molex one that costs 1.5€ plus other 2/3€ for the pins - Alfa sells this as "repair kit" for 70€). It's just that the average mech doesn't have time or willing (or it will cost too much in time) to search for them.
      AND sometimes they simply don't exist (i.e. the harness to rear camera connector is a set composed by Yazaki 7289-0064 and 7129-5503 which are nearly unobtainable...).

    Ive got a non moving 2014 Kuga with this box. errors point towards shift selection learning and stuck fork B. The shift can be reset however doesn't change gears at the peak of first gear, resulting in a return of the DTC as well as ABS warnings. Local approved repair/dealer suggested simply changing the transmission fluid. The box has done 54k so is due...Im hoping thats a solution to start with!? any thoughts? Many thanks!

    If you measured the wire impedance would that work? Or as its not under load it wouldn't show any problem?

    • @SYDiagnostics
      @SYDiagnostics  Před 3 lety

      for volt dropping the wire has to be under load to show the fault

    • @simonparkinson1053
      @simonparkinson1053 Před 3 lety +2

      You CAN measure the resistance of a wire.
      BUT:
      1) A normal multimeter is not the correct tool for the job. They're good for measuring the resistance of things a few ohms and up. But not wires.
      You would need a 4-wire low-ohms meter or at least the type that electricians use, where they output 4-5V at 200mA on a resistance test,
      2) To carry out the resistance test you would need to access both ends of the wire.
      So loading by substitution as Steve did here is by far the most efficient way to test for a good supply.
      Remember that for items such as transmissions and ABS, they may only draw a few mA until required to do some work - and you're not going to put the trans in gear then stand at the front of the car probing the connector!

    • @claudiovic88
      @claudiovic88 Před 3 lety

      @@simonparkinson1053 I see, thank you very much for your clarification!
      My Facom multimeter has a load test function, do you think that's reliable or doing a load test with a bulb it's a better procedure?

    • @simonparkinson1053
      @simonparkinson1053 Před 3 lety +1

      @@claudiovic88 depends how much load it puts on, it will be in the manual.
      But I can't imagine it will be more than a couple of hundred mA.
      Fine for a solenoid circuit but not enough to prove a good feed to something like ABS, Trans or fuel pump.
      For those circuits I use a H7 headlamp bulb to simulate, they're 55W so about 4.5 Amps at 12V.
      A 21/5W stop/tail lamp with 4mm stackable banana plugs on is another ideal test load.
      Shroud the bulbs like Steve did, so they don't burn carpets, plastic components and you!
