Absolutely love the show and your analysis. I started watching having seen Brett Goldstein's interview with Colbert and his story of approaching Harrison Ford - what a way to sell the show to the public (look it up on YT if you haven't watched it). Like Ted Lasso, Shrinking is a very character-driven show and it takes a moment or two to fully embrace the show's characters. I struggled with Jason Segel's character as he's in a pretty grim state to start with - very uncomfortable and slightly frustrating to watch. However, he does emerge slowly from his self-destructive cocoon and whilst he doesn't soar like a beautiful butterfly, he head-butts his way like a moth from one light bulb to the next - very human and typically flawed. That last sentiment is shared by all the characters and mixed with a healthy dose of humour, they are all lovable (even the best friend whose mantra is that he wins all the time).
I’m 9 episodes into Shrinking and I love it. It’s got a fabulous cast. Love Jessica Williams she’s so funny.
She’s killing it! I can’t believe the season is almost over!
Harrison Ford is LUMINOUS in this.

I finished Shrinking and I was incredibly surprised that it was created and written by the same people as Ted Lasso - I unfortunately feel like the stellar outline for a show (a psychiatrist recovering from grief attempting to juggle restoring his relationship with his daughter alongside, forgiving and moving on from the death of his wife, whilst being powered by frustration to get through his job leading to ill thought through actions) was somewhat fumbled to an almost dangerous extent. I think it comes down to the lack of consequence which appears due to these actions taken place, it could so easily make for an interesting albeit darker show. I also found the completely off screen friendships being formed incredibly strange.
With that being said I understand it is meant to be heartfelt and light - and dealing with topics such as the ones on the show - it's an incredibly difficult task.

I love this show! It makes me laugh so much. I watched the episodes multiple times. I love all of the cast, but the women and Harrison Ford are my favourite. Love it so much. Can’t wait for the next season.
I agree with every sentence here! The remaining episodes ended up being great and it really stuck the landing for the season finale. Can't wait to watch/discuss more!

Idk what the ppl in these comments are on about with saying this show is somehow much worse than Ted Lasso. Its not Ted Lasso, its a different show with a slightly different vibe, and you must remember ted lasso already has its full story complete in 3 whole seasons, shrinking has like a third of that. Idk what they're gonna do with season 2, but I've enjoyed the show so far and i disagree with some of the criticism ive heard, ofc ppl are entitled to their opinions though

It’s not nearly as good as Ted Lasso though. I dropped it after a few episodes
I’d suggest you give it more than a few episodes.
Shrinking seems forced. Had a great premise but humor didn’t flow. And unlike Lasso, the characters did not seem real and not very likable.
