  • When choosing a homeschool curriculum it is so helpful to be able to see it in action. So today I'm showing you how we use Apologia Zoology 3 in our homeschool. I hope this will be encouraging and show you that teaching your kids is very doable.

    What are you studying for Science this year? 🤓📚

      We are doing Sonlight this year! But I have thought about switching to apologia for next year. My son will be in 3rd grade! Which apologia book would you recommend starting with?!

      They have a suggested order on their website. I think Zoology 1 would be a great one to start with IMO. We’ve doing Astronomy, Chemistry & Physics, Zoology 1, and now Zoology 3. 🤗

    Love how it's like gather round style where it's one lesson that each grade can do at the same time

      Yes, it’s nice to have subjects that work well for a “one room schoolhouse” approach. 🤗👏🏻

    I am currently reading through Apologia Astronomy right now with my first grader and kindergartner since I found an older additition on a thrift site for super cheap. They love animals so I was really excited to see this video and see how you used the notebooking journals. I think we are going to try this next year. Thanks for sharing :)

    This was so neat! Thank you so much for sharing. I've been interested to see what a lesson looks like from Apologia. I like that it takes two weeks because then even if the kids are not actively engaged in a lesson their minds are still on that topic. So then they notice it more around them in their everyday lives. ❤ 👏

      Yes, the entire book only has 14 lessons. So I like that we can digest the information slowly and still be finished in a years time. It also leaves time to enjoy documentaries, crafts, and picture books on that topic before moving on to the next lesson.

    We're doing apologia flying creatures and astronomy with out kindergartner. Were really breaking it down and going slow. She asked for those topics so were gonna do our best !

      The original Magic School Bus has a few good space episodes. 🤗 We really enjoyed doing flying creatures last year, especially watching caterpillars turn into butterflies.

    Hello thanks for sharing. I have a couple of questions for you. Do you have the other books from apologia science, like human anatomy, botany, earth science, etc? And if so, are these books intended for certain elementary grades? I was wondering if any of these books are harder than others and if homeschoolers are intended to start with specific apologia science books.

    • @CalledtoCultivate
      @CalledtoCultivate  Před 11 měsíci

      Hey! I have done many of the Apologia elementary sciences. 💁🏼‍♀️ I looked at the FAQ section of Apologia’s website years ago with the same question. I can’t seem to find the link as they’ve changed their site layout. But I would say that the Zoology ones would be excellent for the lower grade levels. After that I’d go on to Astronomy or Botany. I’d personally save Anatomy and Chemistry/Physics for upper elementary. They are all written at an elementary level, but the subject mater is more understandable in that order per the students age level in my opinion. I hope that helps! 🤗

    Are the. Note booking journals reproducible? I didn’t think they would be.

      Not for co ops or anything. I buy one notebook and make copies for each of my kids when we do a worksheet. 🤗

    Would you find this difficult to understand for a 3rd grader? My daughter really wants to do this but I’ve been told it would be too difficult for her to understand. Did you have a hard time with your children grasping the information

    • @CalledtoCultivate
      @CalledtoCultivate  Před 3 lety

      No, I think 3rd grade would be just fine. Apologia designs these books for elementary grades. They do have a suggested order, but Zoology is very approachable for that grade level. We do ours as a read aloud and add in some activities as we want to. You can keep it as simple or rich as you want it to be. www.apologia.com/ufaqs/what-is-the-best-order-for-the-seven-books-in-the-young-explorer-series/
