College is really only essential if you're looking for work in a field needing a degree. The cost is so high it often isn't worth it now. Two of my nieces went, my nephew dropped out. I'm a few years older than you, Cincy (and went through what you are with your mom with my own 10 years ago), and went to 3 colleges and a tech school. Graduated early '90s. I'm once again applying for jobs in my field (digital imaging) and getting nowhere fast. I have a degree and a portfolio. Hoping to sell the house and move south (maybe to your state).
