    Glad to see one of the more honest assessments on the current state of the Oilers, as opposed to some fanboy commentary pushing for unrealistic deals and expectations such as proposing Drai to take Tkachuk money, and/or saying other teams would take Kane off their hands for a 3rd or 4th rounder…

  • @seen48

    Mets fan and Oilers fan? I thought I was 1 of 1! My thoughts on Bouchard is we can’t pay him more than 8 million dollars. He’s a great point getter (75% second assists) but is a liability in the neutral zone and our own zone. I don’t like a long term deal for Bouchard. I would rather move Nurse and retain half of his salary so we can get a better Dman. Kane like you said when healthy is good at scoring and hitting, but he’s not good on the third line. He does play much better on the first or second line. As far as the money goes if they move Kane and the cap goes up that’s an extra 10 million. They are already paying Leon 8 so if they pay him 13 that’s only 5 more out of the 10 extra. Already paying Bouchard 3.5 so if they pay him 8 they they’re covered and now need to start thinking about McDavid’s extension.

  • @Marixa1979
    @Marixa1979 Před 2 dny +3

    Draisaitl, Bouch and McDavid get to go into their negotiations and decide how much of the pie they want to take, they've earned that right, though Bouch a little less so. If they want a bigger slice, that's fine, but it just leaves less to work with for the rest of the team. They drive the bus here.

    • @seen48
      @seen48 Před 2 dny +1

      I agree and couldn’t agree more about Bouchard. He should be taking a team friendly deal. If he signs for 6.5 that’s almost double what he’s getting now. I’m not a fan of his and think we can find a PP QB for less. He’s terrible in our own end and loses his spot on the ice so much.

    • @Marixa1979
      @Marixa1979 Před 2 dny +1

      @@seen48 I think you misinterpreted what I was saying. Bouch is a beast and will get paid. Those that say he's still crap defensively aren't paying attention, he's a big plus player for a reason and it's not just because he plays with Ek, though that doesn't hurt.

    • @tonykung8756
      @tonykung8756 Před dnem

      Expect Bouchard to cost $10mil long term and Drai to cost about $13.5 to $14mil. I think the Oilers had a chance to give Bouchard a long term deal in the last contract negotiations for much cheaper but they weren’t ready to give him a big payday…

    • @Marixa1979
      @Marixa1979 Před dnem

      @@tonykung8756 They didn't have the cap room to do it last time. It might cost roughly what Makar's contract is as Bouch's contract, like Makar's, includes several RFA years which tend to be a bit cheaper. I think Bouch will likely fall in the 8-10.5 mil range, likely around 9 ish. Drai will completely decide his, and his decision will be around how competitive he would like the team to be around him. I think 13 would be a good balance of him getting paid, with leaving a little on the table.

    • @seen48
      @seen48 Před dnem

      @@Marixa1979 I did misunderstand what you said. I still think Bouchard is crap in our own end and most Oilers fans would agree. I pay close attention to him because I’m confused as to why, people think he’s great. He does not deserve a 10 million dollar per year payday. Just because he gets a lot of secondary assist and PP points doesn’t make him a good player. Yes he plays with Ek but he’s also on the ice whenever McDavid’s line is on.

  • @rexradar9297

    Nurse got his pay because he was 7th in norris voting the season prior while being top 5 D in 5v5 points, minutes played including shorthanded against top level competition. He had minimal time on the power play.
    Holland messed up because A) every major defenceman that signed that summer pushed 9+ mill. B) they had another contract season to see if he could repeat the high level play. If he was signed for 7.5 which was the expectation prior to the playoffs that year, current disappointment with him would be much less. He also shouldn't have been given the NMC/NTC with that high salary.
    However, he got two major injurys since that contract, see playoffs vs Vegas where he couldn't turn left. He also got rocked and likely played through a minor concussion. He has not been the same player since these injuries. He should also be forced to properly recover and heal up ie LTIR till Thanksgiving or Christmas until his scating is back where it was two years ago.
    LD goes 12.5 to 13.5 x8 years. EB goes for 7.5-8 x2 years. That way he gets locked in till the year after CMD is resigned. Also gives him time to pad his numbers more for the 10+ mill contract coming his way.
    EK is going LTIR, resumes play mid March. He gets traded next summer just before the trade deadline to Columbus, Ottawa, Buffalo where they will want need some extra for the young team. Edmonton fans go ballistic due to trading away the character player from the SCF champs!

  • @squeekywheel9591
    @squeekywheel9591 Před 2 dny +3

    Evander is tradeable March 1, 2025 (16 team list). LTIR until then. He is moveable after 5 months of seasonal play (Oct.9 to Mar.1 - game 58). All you have to do is move Kane's contract for 58 games and then he's tradeable for whoever takes his contract. On a gpg pace, he's a 20 goal scorer every year if he stays healthy. He is also very tough. He has value and after game 58, there's an exit clause for anyone who takes him. It's not a huge risk. [Note: I like Evander's game when he's healthy - this is strictly a cap issue.]

    • @darrenh6169

      We just do what Vegas did...LTIR until the playoffs then activate. Voila no cap hit!

    • @Zhombeee
      @Zhombeee Před 2 dny +3

      I agree. He's had a rough season for injuries but if he's healthy, his value is far higher than any of the other names that have been thrown out to trade and we can use his grit if we want to take another run for the cup.

      @seen48 Před 2 dny

      I agree about the LTIR until March. Keeping him on until the playoffs and then asking him to step up is not a good idea in my opinion. What’s the exit clause if another team takes him?

    Is it possible in the NHL ???(I know it happens in other leagues), where the player wants written in the contract that I have to be in the top 10 players paid, in each season regardless of the cap at the time of signing, or the amount I signed for ? , I definitely see McDavid having this in his next contract, I think we agree the Oilers got Drai cheap the last 8 years, you know it, he knows it, so it’s going to be pay me $$$$ or trade me stance, like it or not, there will be no McDavid discount to stay in Edmonton, you got me cheap, now it’s time to pay up or say goodbye, this is not an easy decision , will be interesting to see how this happens and when and if , thank you

      Or maybe 🤔 the contract is instead of 8 year 112 million,
      it’s 8 year 15% of salary cap , is that allowed ?
      McDavid contract regardless of where he signs (I think probably Edmonton) will set a precedent for sure (8 year 20% of salary cap) he will get ✅ there will be NO discount

    Bouchard has a slap shot and that’s it. He doesn’t play defence. When he was accidentally put on the penalty kill when the Oilers were on a 45 pk roll he let the player get by him and score costing the the kill. Useless. He cost the Oilers two goals against in Florida game 2 and they lost by two. Useless. Save the cap space.
