This was beautiful. For those that don't fully understand the meaning of the song, it's written from the point of view of a man who had lost one son in war and his only surviving son was leaving to go into battle and was most likely not going to survive.
I was always told that this was from a mother's POV. Having been a soldier for 23 years and been sent to war three times, I can tell you that it is far more likely that my dear sainted mother had these sentiments as opposed to my father. I have to compare this song to a mathmatic equation like Einstein's E=MC2. It is simple and precise. But in its simplicity one can discover the secrets of the universe. It is profound simplicity.
