Thanks for another great video. I have been wanting to learn this for a while but didn't get on it until someone brought me a vintage ruby & diamond ring, they want the stones in a contemporary bangle. Scary. I did my first flush setting the other day (I'll be practicing a lot with topaz & other stones before I tackle the rubies), and it went surprisingly well - I just wanted to say I find it's really helpful to watch the video again after doing it, it seems to add another layer of knowledge. Thanks again.

Newbie question: bought a set of hart burs and they're all 2%-3% under the rated sizes. (ex: 025 = 2.43mm) What tolerance should be required in burs?

I do have a question - do you think it's okay to do it in fine silver if it's for studs or a pendant, things that won't get much wear on them?

    Dear Nancy,
I really, really need some help. I have watched all of your tutorials along with every one on CZcams about flush setting. I CAN NOT get my stones to stay in their setting. I have tried everything. I made special burnishers, etc. I have spent 2 days on this and really feel like giving up. Can you please help me?
I am attempting to set CZ stones in Brass.

I can try Stormy. Are your stones set deep enough? Are you wiggling when you drill, creating too-wide openings? Are you pushing down, onto the stone with the burnisher? You have to push hard and at the correct angle. Softer metal like fine silver, will make it easier to push the metal over. You might want to anneal before setting. The biggest problem for my in-class students was not pushing the burnisher down onto the stone or they weren't pushing hard enough. Are you feeling that little rim, with your burnisher? If not, then your stone may not be deep enough. It should be just enough of a rim to keep the burnisher from slipping. Right now, that's all I can think of. Without watching you set, it's hard to tell what's happening that shouldn't be. Helps this helps a little!

      @@NancyHamiltonJewelry Hi Nancy,
I have tried setting the stones at different depths, still no help. I could be wiggling the drill, I don’t have the best setup. I am pushing down on the stone, so hard actually that I chipped one of the CZ stones and cut my hand open on the metal edge when my hand slipped. I’m not sure I understand fully about the little rim and the right angle. I tried using aluminum instead of brass and managed to sort of get one set, but I cheated and used a screwdriver to push metal over the top. I will try to record a video of my attempts and post it to my channel. I will let you know when I do so
Thank you so much for your help
