You obviously are totally ignorant of the torrential rains Stellenbosch and the rest of the Western Cape had two weeks ago, with a great deal of flooding and rain and wind damage. That pitch was totally waterlogged. Have you seen the state of pitches at SACS, Paarl BHS and Paarl Gym recently? They would be pretty much in the same shape, except SACS's pitches are usually mudbaths.
