  • We are unboxing, installing and reviewing the new Lasfit 3 inch LED pods in the ditch light location. In my opinion these are the best light for the money. Quality build and construction.
    Lasfit has fog, spot, driving and flood beam patters in both white and yellow and they have 18 and 36 watt versions of each light. They also make ditch light brackets for Ford, Dodge and Chevy trucks.
    This is a re-upload because the audio was messed up on the original.

    Fog lights are designed to improve visibility in adverse weather conditions, particularly in foggy, misty, or hazy environments. Unlike regular headlights, fog lights are positioned lower on the vehicle's front bumper. They emit a wide, low beam that is aimed towards the ground, illuminating the road directly in front of the vehicle.
    The key principle behind fog lights is to minimize the reflection and scattering of light caused by fog or other atmospheric conditions. Fog consists of tiny water droplets suspended in the air, which tend to scatter light beams, making it difficult to see. Regular headlights, with their higher beam pattern, can exacerbate this scattering effect.
    Fog lights are typically designed with a specific beam pattern that helps combat the scattering effect of fog. The light beam from fog lights is often wider and flatter compared to regular headlights. This helps illuminate the road surface, reducing the glare and reflection caused by the fog. By positioning the lights closer to the ground, the fog lights can better penetrate the fog and provide improved visibility for the driver.
    Most fog lights use specialized bulbs that emit a yellow or amber light. This color temperature is less likely to reflect off water droplets in the fog, further enhancing visibility. Additionally, some fog lights feature a selective yellow lens that filters out blue light, which is more prone to scattering.
    Fog lights can be activated independently of the regular headlights, allowing the driver to selectively use them when needed. However, it's important to note that fog lights should only be used in appropriate weather conditions, as their wide beam pattern can potentially blind other drivers in clear weather or at night.
    In summary, fog lights work by emitting a wide, low beam pattern that helps combat the scattering effect of fog. By positioning the lights closer to the ground and using specialized bulbs and lens filters, fog lights enhance visibility in foggy conditions, providing a safer driving experience.

    I installed a Herd bumper and grill guard. Not cheap but I’m Moose proof on the front end now.

    Great video. I just got a pair of the 3” Pods with the Amber lenses and Driving pattern. How do you like your Driving pattern lenses? I have mine mounted in the Ditch Light area.

    Isn’t the purpose of fog lights to shine everywhere and illuminate everything due to the fog?

    • @TravelinTim
      @TravelinTim  Před 6 měsíci

      Fog lights should cut through the fog and add definition. Flood lights should shine everywhere. But running a flood light in fog will just blind you because of the reflection of light off the fog.

    Thanks for the review! The lasfits definitely have a great fog beam pattern. In fairness though, those auxbeams you have are not a fog pattern. They look like they are the 'spot/flood combo' lens from their x-pro line up.

      I ordered the fog beam in the auxbeam light.

    The Lasfit 3 inch cube lights suffer from a fatal flaw. That little "shade" lip on top looks sexy but keeps you from being able to use generic clip on covers for 3 inch pods. And Lasfit does not seem to sell custom covers for their pods and have not bothered responding to my inquiry for well over a week. If you live in states that require covers for off road lighting and/or lighting mounted above the line of your headlights (which even SAE compliant cube lights are) then stay away.

      Have you ever been pulled over for not having a cover on a light that was not on? I have been to 49 states with these and never have. Been inspected by the DOT in 20 with no issues. You could get the generic elastic covers if you really need a cover.

      Nope, just a very bored MP on a public access road within Fort Hunter Ligget. He was heading the other way on a 2 way road, as soon as he passed me he turned around, drove behind me for a couple of miles occasionally pinging me with radar, then pulled me over half a mile before the edge of the base. Stated that the only reason for pulling me over is the uncovered pods. CA law is pretty explicit on the subject. Like you I have been driving for a decade+ with uncovered A pillar lights and then this.
