- Bristol City Council graffiti video - Chapter 1: Graffiti and Tagging - Views and opinions.
Made by Bristol production company, First Born Creatives. For use in Secondary Schools in Bristol.
I shot this video and uploaded it to demonstrate my camera work.
The Original upload can be viewed at / bristolcitycouncil
I was an average artist from the 80's and part of the graffati scene back then was to 'tag' on the most outrageous place.
'Bombing' double decker buses was also the thing to do back then , and was exciting. I loved doing all the artwork etc , and i didnt do it to act hard. I remember doing a 'dub' on a railways bridge on the grimsby / doncaster line on a saturday night. Was an awesome feeling.
Great documentary series ;)
Featuring the kind of graffiti and tags that we all see every day in our towns and cities, this is an interesting insight into a familiar, faceless part of city life. Well worth watching all four videos to get a nicely rounded picture of all involved.
i visited Bristol back in march when i went to the Fantazia rave & i was impressed with all the 'commissioned' graff but fact of the matter is that 20-25 years ago the majority of those artists like INKIE were out there 'bombin' & 'tagging up' the city....*operation anderson*
Excellent! Informative and visually stimulating piece of film.
Ronan.
I put some vox pops together as part of my uni work. Got seriously good possitive feedback too. 12 out of 50 people were dead against street art. I was amazed!"! Nice video too thanks for sharing
Excellent imagery, music and very well filmed. Loved the sped up time lapse bits, brilliant techniques
well your camera work is magic mate you should be proud of yourself!
I love seeing tags, shows that the city is alive, especially these days the tags are getting better and better because we have all kinds of different colored inks and mop paints.
Sweet cinematography there. Good story too, definitely one that needs to be heard.
honestly, i love crap graffiti just as much as murals, theres a story behind every marking :)
tagging is the very essens of graffiti, and it will always be.
your camera work is brilliant! interesting video
the actual suff they actually put on wall ere is actually good
i like how you seperate the difference between art and vandals
'GOLDIE@ made his name as an artists down in bristol in the 1980's early 90's. My mate from doncaster was good and used to go down there and do 'pieces' with him.
Great video, brightens the place up, love that bass too......
this is great tom ~ good work
Wicked film...nice editing!...informative...entertainig! Cheers
I agree with the first bloke, it's a pitty so many people can't distinguish between art and mindless tagging where it really should not be.
graffiti is a school, when you go to kindergarden you learn to write your name(tags), later on in school you learn different styles and artforms(throwies). then once you have a talent you can take special classes to perfect your style(piece).
QUALITY BEFORE QUANTITY!
Right on Tom.
tags can be beautiful
but the really beautiful ones are extremely hard to make
taggin is how u start
name me 1 artist that dint start taggin wit a marker
What is the track used in this vid?
very nice video :)))
that was a hella well done video. what was the music?
4:32 that 54 taggin shit is also all the way down here in houston its everywheree
wads taggin?may i know,pls?
Good video
Graffiti is the name for images or lettering scratched, scrawled, painted or marked in any manner on property. (Pasted from Wiki)
So banksy is graffiti.
I don't know about you but when I hear graffiti it can mean anything but the tags / pieces / throwie's whatever is writing.
And to the people in this video, tags are where it starts you wouldn't have your beautiful pieces without those so called scrawls.
i agree, u cant have one w/ out the other; you cant have murals w/ out the marker tags. there are a lot of really nice tags out there, but toys just ruin it for everyone.
chachi, mola. (in sapanish ,good work)
Like it..
@honkercianj No, tagging is like one string of the guitar. nothing with out the rest. taggin sucks if its not legible or lacks style...
bristol TN?????
tagging is an art , but it has to be don good !!!
Bristol City Council huge double standers. the appear to come down hard on some graffiti artists, but parade and are proud of the work of local graffiti artist banksy. decide what side of he fence and stop jumping from one side to the other Bristol City Council!
that little kid said "i reckon" hahaha
dotcom and mos were forced to do this when they got caught to reduce charges
diffrent kind of art bro.
i dont like tagging to but i started out tagging
yeah
What do you mean when you say "Your a toy!"?
I really think some suits don't like graffiti because it reminds them that the drones they expect to build their houses and clean up their takeaway wrappers might have more talent than them hidden away with less chances in life to prove it.
@shotbydalonewolf its bristol in England :)
who tinks graffiti is cool when you do it,and when its seened
to adeel200sx you gotta tag firstly then you learn to do throwups then peices then u get really good and do murals :D so if they diddnt do the tag no mural in a way ...
sickend
yeh tagging is wat people look at as "vandalism" it isnt the art but its wat graffiti is about.gettibg your name up,i like taggs coz people can actully make em look good with flares and drips etc but i love murals more there just amazin
true dat bruh!
we hittem up!!!
we no give a shyt..
whos the guy with the hat on, not dotcom or mos
Especially that you need to watch out for cops and you have to do it at dark
its all about the quantity as long as its not complety toy as thats just an eyesore
see the good thing about graff is opinions of other people dont mean shit i mean everyone in the world looks down upon graff bu that hasnt stopepd us before you gotta start doing tags to d pieces and shit so when they say i love that but i hate that well i couldnt have done that piece if i didnt do that tag. and actually i started out with throwies but tags come easily to me to bristol graff has some OK stuff but where im from we raised the bar alot L.A. baby!
back
or roads. anything public is allowed.
If u dont know how to tagg, ure toy immediatly. have your own tagg style- respect straight away

0:50 -1:00 lol
BIG Up DFens! lol
if police give us time we wouldnt have to tag we would take our time and do a nice piece.
-"WisdomOner"-
yee tru tru
everystyle came from handstyles so u kant say u hate graffiti jus because see tags everywhere
Tagging is what's up. You're not a writer if you're not a tagger.
i dont give a fuck if society doesn't like tags cause i a int doing it for them . they dont want our tags up like we don't want there corporate advertisement i do it for me and other writers
lol i whent to school with tyndale
it doesn't make sense if that's all you do like most kids
deener
u know, taggin is really hard too, thats why u see alot awfull ones. but yea, graffities are better of co, i just do stickers.
fucking hey
....tagging is how it all starts.. then u move ur way on up to bombing and piecing!!! graffiti is nothing without tags.. its like a stepping stool.
i thought any type of graffiti was illegal!
Graffiti didnt start from tags. Tags was originaly from a guy who just wrote "tak" and hes addres everywhere :/ pieces came later, and they wasnt for name purposes, just for pictures and characters. Know your facts before whining -.-
Taki 183
haha i reken.. haha
yeh there is a difference but u get a lot more longer sentence for doing big pieces so u wanna tag and not get caught or u wanna do a big piece and get fined 10,000 dollars and spend 4 years in jail?
i dunno its changed now
rep bristol graff scene! patchway bristol reppin...buger1, lazy1....
these people are right tags man, ther pretty sad one colours too are so bad (UNLESS ITS an illustration or stencil)
Toys
dont listen to to writers that look down on tagging dont listen to their worthless opinion
Still can't understand why "Rich Minchin" is stood eulogising about Graffiti Culture infront of work he had NOTHING to do with, (I did that wall with Logoe, Earner & Silent Hobo. Shit man he even came down and gave us props while we we're painting it).
Why aint he stood chatting in front of one of his commissions?
That shit just pisses me off, It's like he's trying to take credit for shit he had nothing to do with, Oh wait, He did a few panels round the corner with some school kids.
A.W.O.L.
i hate the tags that are written by the toys
those whitouth style
i write graffiti and i am 10
tagging is okay but some people just throw it up like nothing and write it everywhere, f***ing everywhere. Or they do really stupid things because they think there cool. I suppose in the graffiti lingo you call them toys. xP
those kids were brainwashed
rumdrunk sorry but your comment doesn't make much sense
lmao u slap ur school
that shit at 3:29 thats just shit disgusting
some graffiti is gd, like murals n dat. but taggin is pathetic i think :S
Vandalism
Yea.. tag your work then
Plain tagging is a complete eyesore and stain on the environment.
Wicked film...nice editing!...informative...entertainig! Cheers
