I agree. But it does make me sad that people always picture the German soldier as this bad guy when they were just carrying out orders and doing their jobs.
+GamingNow2013 well at the end of the day it was by carrying out these orders, knowing it was wrong to do so, that created this gruesome history though. Most of them weren't bad guys, but that doesn't make up for doing bad things though

My grandparents were in the german army and luftwaffe, the stories I've been told were, these battalions were fighting for each other since Adolfs war plans were absurd and him overthrowing his top generals actual experience, then blaming the soldiers for his loss, the German army has the "Harder than a coffin nail" reputation cemented in history. The planet is extremely lucky Hitler was ignorant to the opening of 2 fronts against basically the rest of the world which in turn overwhelmed the forces, not many militaries had the heart and tenacity of the German soldiers
My ancestors were in all three sections of the Wehrmacht.
As a grandson of a Polish soldier and great nephew of American soldiers, and despite war crimes being the norm the Heer definitely commanded respect.
On a side note I recommend reading (if you have not already) reading D-Day Through German Eyes.
Read Viktor Suvorov , Germany had no choice , but to attack the Soviets bc the soviets were planing a large scale invasion of Western Europe and then of the whole world to pursue the world revolution. He had to do it.

Very beautiful video
Besides any war crimes or anything bad some of them committed, this guys were super determined, had great technology that they made, the logistic skills they had and the courage in their was amazing. (Also in the first years of war if I know it right, they put a huge emphasis on problem solving skills, officers and soldiers being autonomous rather than being centrally controlled.)
I raise my hat to these guys and I hope they have a peaceful rest. (And I wish that to their allies and enemies as well)

Pity that Hitler and his cronies (Goebbels, Goering, etc) were so profligate with these outstanding (admittedly the best) troops. The German fought with total devotion, and Hitler behaved as if they would rise from the dead, abandoning his troops and demanding the impossible that developed because of his own megalomania. The other in-command “cronies” and even higher Generals lacked the cojones to point out the obvious to him and to the general staff. There were only a handful at best that would speak up bravely as to Hitler’s lack of judgement. Makes me angry wasting all those excellent men. They could have provided such leadership and strength to Germany rather than being thrown away in meat grinder actions.
