    Thank you for answering my question! :) I would love to go to Scotland some day. I've never been to Europe before, but I can't wait to go and I need to stop stalling and just do it. It was really fun to get to know you more and congrats on the new growth on your channel!! :) I loved your answer about missing the sounds of summer. I think I would really miss that as well. Hope you have a great rest of your reading month!

      Farrah, I was 40 when I came to Europe for the first time. It's never too soon--or too late! It's funny about those sounds, how they're so easy to take for granted. It never occurred to me they wouldn't be here, and it took me a while to get used to the quiet. Thanks for the kind words about my channel.

    Oh, Best Friends is the best! I've visited the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah and it is amazing - just very heart-filling to see such so much care put into saving animals. Really really beautiful place & organziation. Also, my europe tip is: Vienna has a ball season in January & February where you can get tickets to attend a ball at the Hofburg Palace and it is AMAZING. Very magical and Vienna in Jan/Feb is very affordable and not crowded and lovely. :)

    The first question is the one I wanted to know too. I just love the expats stories about where they went, why and how. TY. Love that you took your cats and were able to. We also had a Siamese cat at one point and I love their strong personalities and chattering. I am visiting Edinburgh this spring!! Now I'm looking forward to it even more!
    We are vegan with 6x a year eating cheese on pizza. I did make a face at mushrooms. HAHA. Is it easier to get vegan foods like 'ice cream' in Amsterdam?

    • @EveningReader
      @EveningReader  Před 6 měsíci

      I hope you have a wonderful time in Edinburgh! It's my new favorite city.
      Vegan foods are getting easier to find here--not so much ice cream, but lots of vegan meat and cheese substitutes, vegan bakeries, and more vegan restaurants every day. We're very lucky here in that produce is much cheaper than in the states--and also just better in terms of flavor, etc. because it isn't shipped so far.

    Thanks for putting so much thought into this Q&A. I’ve studied German so I was surprised to hear that “lekker” is the Dutch word for “tasty” because it’s “lecker” (same pronunciation) in German. I’m guessing there might be other similarities between Dutch and German, given that they’re both from the Germanic family of languages. Thanks also for telling us more about your wonderful kitties. 😺😸

    Hi Priscilla, I have so many comments to this video😊
    I read that the Dutch of the tallest people in Europe so I at 4 feet 11 1/2 would also have issues with the clothes.
    I was just in Amsterdam last spring, but I stayed mostly in Haarlem and that was my first time in that city and I really loved it. I hope to come back in the fall. I speak Spanish, but have a really hard time with French even though they’re both Latin languages. It’s the accent and the grammar that’s so different in French. My father was born in Puerto Rico, so I picked up Spanish at home by osmosis and yes that really is a thing. I lived in Madrid when I was 23 and Japan when I was 50 but at age 73 I think I would only live someplace for three months and come back to warm Hawaii. I want to go to Bruges next year. I was supposed to go last year but I got Covid in Paris when it was 100° not fun!
    I also got a little boost from my best of 23 video but not as big as yours. Wishing you a great 2024.❤ aloha friend

    • @EveningReader
      @EveningReader  Před 7 měsíci +1

      We can get jalapenos! Just not available as an option for pizza topping. Whoops. We can also get what they call "salsa," but it's a lie. That's what you'd need the suitcase for. Being car free is the best, except sometimes (or most of the time now that it's winter) when it's cold and raining and the fridge is empty.

    • @readandre-read
      @readandre-read Před 7 měsíci

      @@EveningReader do you make your own salsa, then? I always have good intentions of doing this but with a giant wall of them at the store I am lazy. Not to rub it in or anything. Green and red....got to have both.

    • @EveningReader
      @EveningReader  Před 7 měsíci

      @@readandre-read No. I will make pico de gallo, but haven't tried making salsa because I am also lazy. For awhile we could get Pace at one of the expat groceries, but it changed owners. We CAN get Cholula, Tapatio, and Valencia, which helps a bit. But when it comes to chips and salsa, no great options other than spicing up the store-bought version (the HOT is laughably weak!).

    "Editing is hard" 😂Hah! I felt that.
    😻Oh my goodness, I just love the expression on Moxie's face in that photo! What a cutie! And Chloe's coloring is so beautiful. 😍
    I'm so sorry you can't get your favorite flavor of ice cream. I can empathize, as I left my favorite chocolates behind in California when I moved (they come from a little family owned chocolate shop), and when I was in Singapore, I desperately wanted some pepperoncini's, but I couldn't find a jar of them for less than S$45.00 (they're not **that** good! lol).
