Ever since the 2016 draft, they’ve been doing the nameplate thing. I never understood why. We all know they could still make titantrons. So what gives? The only theory I have is that it’s for the same reason they got rid of pyro in 2017. Budget cuts.
A titantron never existed. Allow me to educate you. WWE just like most other sports events, concerts etc used big screens made by Mitsubishi and Sony, and those big screens were called JumboTrons. The WWE company till the late 90s was actually called Titan Sports, and they put the titan name on everything, including their JumboTron screen. All their toys had titan written on them, the big building they used was named titan tower etc. The titantron is just a name they made up. They did the same thing on Jericho's talk show, because they named his screen the Jeritron. Sony stopped making the JumboTron in the early 2000s, but now most people still call all large stadium and arena screens JumboTrons. It is kinda like the Jet Ski, because only Kawasaki makes Jet Skis, but people refer to every personal water craft as a Jet Ski. The Jet Ski is just the name that Kawasaki uses for their personal water crafts, but when you see anything that resembles a jet ski there is no doubt you will call it a jet ski. It is the same with huge screens, when people see them they still call them JumboTrons. Or the GoodYear blimp, because all blimps at sporting events are almost universally called GoodYear plimps, but only GoodYear has GoodYear blimps.
