“I’m so prog, I listen
To concept albums on shuffle” - Kmac
How to make cult musicians mad
I think Kmac got inspired by a joke from this thread on Reddit. Found it in a post called "piss off /r/progmetal".
www.reddit.com/r/progmetal/comments/351gg4/piss_off_rprogmetal_with_one_sentence_stolen_from/cr0cvuj?
That line always cracks me up
This should be made illegal btw
That damn joke. Holy shit
I forgot to put my strap real high for this one, please forgive me
Lmao I would have loved you for that😂😂
Baena. What guitar is that. its beautiful. I love the wood grain and matte paint job etc.
Automatic like for the Gojira shirt. Fuckin A.
@@FEBRIZIOtv Thanks! it's my Fast Guitars Orion 7 string with Seymour Duncan Alpha/Omega pickups
Andrew Baena nice nice. I’ll google the parts and do some research. Just ordered a Mayones Regius 7, gonna drop some Fishman Modern Fluence pickups in it. Hoping it comes out nice.
Friend: What's the time signature of this song
Me: *pulls out graphing calculator*
So I read this late at night and tried to stifle my laughter by covering my mouth, and subsequently smushed my nose into my face. Stop being funny.
After my last ex broke up with me I realized my life is a prog metal song
95% are solo
F
Y
Then that means I'm an instrumental
I thought you were going to say it's too long and you were finding it hard.
@@adrianvelante8014 A tool, you mean?
5/31 subdivided into 22nd notes is my favorite time signature xD also great video
Dude! Do you speak music? There’s no such thing as a 5/31... what about a 19/16?
It’s a very unknown time signature. See the beginning of the video xD and yes 19/16 is great
Alex Monoxide 5/31 is not possible, seeing as there is no such thing as a 31st note.
Alexander Mueller what do you mean, of course there are. Trust me, I play Dillinger Escape Plan on drums.
*Laughs in Tosin Abasi*
Not sure what’s more impressive, the guitar skills or remembering all of those patreons off the top of your head goddamn 😂
Jacob Martin Right? XD
truth.
It probably takes me over an hour each time, gotta show my patrons the luv
if you can remember the time changes to dance of eternity you can certainly remember 40 names
That's some Rain Man shit
Solo over the clean part
"There are never too many notes" riffs
Ominous piano over heavy riff
String intro
Out of genre section
Transcribed classical pieces
Also, guitarist singing and shredding while drumming
Ellis the ShredLord “Ominous piano over heavy riff”
BTBAM where you at?
@@thalloutboy hell add the "out of genre section" for some BTBAM lol
Shred McFingers I didn’t know Rob Scallon was such a huge part of the prog community.
@@thalloutboy Persefone mastered doing though
Master Of Time= John Petrucci
Spider Hands= John Petrucci
Above The Flying & You= Every Dream Theater Song
Synth Theater= Dream Theater
The Feels Are Reals= Almost All Dream Theater Song Before The Solo
"Yeah Just Throw A Solo On Top"= John Petrucci
The Synth Solo= Breaking All Illusions And More Songs
Every Stereotype Of Prog Metal Is Dream Theater
*Change My Mind*
Well...
There is a lot of guitarist as good as John Petrucci ;) .
Tosin Abasi,
Bumblefoot,
Mattias IA Eklundh,
Every technical death metal band guitarist,
...
:-P
Above The Flying & You is literally a pun on Between The Buried And Me you pleb 😤
Pass the TOOL- John Petrucci
Amirite?
@@Abasedbymygrief ...I love BTBAM and I totally didn't spot that one :o
Well, no matter if you love or hate them, DT are the ones who set all those trends and defined a lot in the genre.
It really shows that you care about your patrons. You literally memorized THAT many names. If I were a religious man, I’d say bless your soul.
Akahoshi Thank you! Gotta show them the love
@@NikNocturnal Bless your soul bro.
I'll say it for you. Bless his soul.
"Where is the snare?" Sounds like Vicarious-Tool.
It does!
The BTBAM pun was perfect for the long song section.
Jesus_the_frog42 ^^ Andrew knows well
But ants of the sky is amazazing
Where are the modern "djenty" syncopations??? WHERE ARE THEM????
Gabri Fuentes We used those in our Djent stereotype vid :)
I didn't heard djent in progmetal, maybe in the last album of Myrath.
@@MichaelWeizenfeld djents a subdivision of prog
@@Zepla So all Djent is secretly Rush?
been listening to prog so long that all this stuff is just a given, my bandmates always get on me for writing "weird" stuff lol, but to me its just music
STUDIO OF SHRED I love weird stuff
Finally! My user name has meaning! Get WEIRD! Just do it!
Lol same here. I make weird and utterly non-sensincal Electronic things and my friends always seems to dislike everything I do. And I don't know if that's good or bad. But I like what I do so fuck it.
My band mates are prog and I’m thrash aka 4/4 whore, doesn’t work too well
God, I know the feeling
*only* time signature that still sounds weird to me is 11/8
Andrew's Tool needs more hammer-ons and pull-offs
Drop D!
"Did he even Berkley"😂
also the
"yeah it's kinda death metal with syncopated 8 strings riffs but how about a carnival acapella fugue part"
Yvan Cluet aka BTBAM - Voice of Trespass.
You forgot "That Jazz Section" and "Insta-Prog" (add9 power chords)
Tarkenton add9 power chord is the same as sus2 chord, isn’t it?
@@T114466 right you are
What are some prog bands that add a lot of jazz?
Paul Ferguson Do you mean bands that incorporate jazz into their regular sound or bands that include jazz breaks in songs?
@@thalloutboy Bands that include jazz breaks
I almost thought this was a BTBAM cover
Seeing them tomorrow. Fucking pumped
lol this^^
Theyre awesome, enjoy the show
Good you're so fucking lucky
They'll never come here in Italy
@@VOYAGEUR-YT I saw em like three months ago, didn't like them from the recordings, now I love them. What an awesome show dude.
Post-hardcore or hardcore punk stereotypes next?
AFSD I don’t think my landlord would like me smashing walls
Synth Theater lmao. The names are amazing
Sandipan Thank you!
This video not only demonstrates the prog stereotypes, but also the difference between 30 and 60 fps.
You should do a video on stereotypical post breakdowns! Love the vids man keep up the great work!
2:01 Nailed Dream Theater's style!!🔥🔥🔥
Ps: That riff sounded a bit like Bridges in The Sky
Another stereotype I see a lot is guitarists looking bored while playing.
Well, it’s kinda difficult to look excited while playing 12 min songs xd
@@tomasrodrioguezmoser8400 I mean, Kirk Hammet got tired after playing a 9 minute song alot. Though in his defense, And Justice For All doesn't sound nearly as fun as say Dream Theater or BTBAM would to play.
Wow, this was a great video, I'm amazed every time I come to this channel to see so many genres portrayed in such funny and clever ways, it boggles my mind how you stay fresh. Keep doing what you do man!
2 things
1) you forgot ridiculously high straps
2) my brother says you look like you run off 2 hours of sleep per month and are fueled by coffee
Great vid 🤘
It's the thumbnail, lol.
High guitars do improve your ability to play. Allows for better technique, closer to that when you're sitting and playing.
Personally, I favorite time signature is 19.39/74. I'm sure you heard that one in BTBAM's "Mordecai".
Zachary Mosley i dunno man I prefer -34^2/34y79
"Above the flying an you"
Between the buried an me wants to know your location!
;)
He swam to the moon
EXCITED FOR PART 2!
"That clean part" was a relief when there was no James LaCheese vibrating away like there's no tomorrow.
Lmao
There were some really great riffs here!
The synth part was super children of bodem lol..I gotta start patreon for u man.foreal.the only youtuber I'd have no problem giving "back" to🤘🖤🤘
Yes! My genera. I love prog metal!
I cannot express the happeness thus brings me
The weird time signatures, key changes, and long songs are what makes a prog song
My favorite is the one where there are like zero dynamic changes in three songs in a row on an album then the next song has an acoustic guitar so it’s “quieter,” but I love it anyway.
Between the buried and me reference. I love them haha.
Great vid Nic, have a great day.👏🏼👏🏼😁
Bruh “above the flying & you” is the best between the buried and me impression I’ve ever seen
Amazing work guys
Glad to see Baena on here!!!
Man I love your intro sooo much
Well that was fun seeing you 2 together in a video you guys are great
Please do Thrash or Black Metal Stereotypes
Lauron Amiel Toral I don’t know if my neighbours would like me summoning satan for a youtube video
I know I would
Nik Nocturnal can you do power metal stereotypes
@@NikNocturnal screw neighbours
@@NikNocturnal summoning the Devil, well, that's the first stereotype
Simply Awesome!
Synth theater was dope. Would be cool to hear a full song with that one.
Omg you’re like Jared Dines, subscribed! Oh patreon? Take my money! oh t shirts, where do you come up with these crazy ideas and crazy stuff?
Thisnwas hilarious. More prog related content
Thanks for the tips!
This whole thing is dream theater in a nut shell
Dream Shell Nut Theater
They pioneered the genre so
Keyser Soze I believe rush was first for prog
Dream Theater pioneered prog metal. If we talking just prog, you're gonna have to go further back than Rush, my guy
@@sharpstick8674 correct
Awesome as always bro!
“Above the Flying & You” is the best reference to Between the Buried & Me that I’ve ever heard.
The spider hands and music man majesty made me think you were John petrucci for a second 😂
And the synth theater
This is the first video of yours I've ever seen but now I want to be a patreon which will also be a first.
Love that he is playing on a majesty guitar :)
I missed this series so much😁😁😁😁
New band name for the YT age Patreoni, and you deserve it after that roll of the tongue.
The where is the snare one got me the hardest since all of the other ones are well known.
I think there is something to add. that's amazing parts of tapping
That synth solo at 2:45 was actually pretty good
Nice shot at between the buried and me. Actually laughed at the accuracy
"yeah, just throw a solo on top" is too real, and I've been the one to do the solo in that situation. At least you made it sound cool here xD
That synth solo was badass
Damn dude, most the riffs you use in these videos could be part of a song on their own. And I would dig it. Creative shit.
wait, Andrew finally got his production together, this sounds way better than his previous videos!
"Where is the snare?" is a game I play whenever I listen to Tesseract.. lol
the synth theater was hard tho 🔥😂
Is it wrong that literally every single one of these little snippets excited me? Like if these were all actual songs I’d be tracking them all down instantly
spider hands is definitely my favourite. sounds so smooth and less djenty.
Sick riffs.
Takes shots at Dream Theatre...uses Petrucci’s guitar. He’s in your head, man! Haha great video.
Need a full version of The Key Chain!
yoh that was a dope synth solo ngl
beautiful Guitar , Love this Band and John Petrucci
The new Between the Buried and Me documentary is coming along nicely
Thnx. Gonna go listen to metropolis now
The throw the solo on top one has never described Mastodon better
Synth solo? Sounds alot like Rammstein. 🤔😁
Memento Mori its the tone i think
Your name. I like.
@@koffieverslaafde627 Definitely the synth. Lol
Memento Mori hmm, the tone of the synth is pretty rammstein ish
Sounds like Amerika
Love the Vicarious nod.
I got an ad for a prog metal song right before this video. Can confirm stereotypes are accurate
Bro those time signatures at 0:55 was fucking awesome.
Great idea for a song.
Changing Keys aka the John Coltrane-Giant Steps xD
Above the flying and you, cheap shot at Between the Buried and Me? Lol. Love that band though.
A lot of these, especially in the first half, are really cool. what are some bands I could get into to hear some more like that?
Superfluous tempo changes are my morning coffee
I quite enjoyed that Synth Solo.
1:36 i want a full song with that
Ooo maybe
@@NikNocturnal bro i beg you, pls make a full version
Yo that last synth solo actually sounded really cool lmao
Granted "where's the snare?" Is hilarious and true, the example used was so easy of snare part
Nice music man
"Above The Flying & You" was spot on. Love BTBaM. lol
Dude, that 7-string Musicman is *badass.*
"above the flying and you" gave me a good LOL
That clean part reminded me of pull me under from dream theater
Hilarious titles 🤣🤘
Oh jesus, synth theater 2:02 was incredible...I wanna here whole song like this !!!
Lastly, just slap a bunch of notes in solos and drum at the same time
Ahahaha love these vids
The playing the same riff in any metal prog sounds like some sort of warmup lol
Oh thank you very much! I love it!
Spider Hands was the first surprise I’ve encountered trying to play Opeth
