    Me, and my Mum bumped into Warwick, and his Wife in Doncaster last year. He was so uplighting, and treated me and mum with funny laughs, and dignity. Our group photo sits proudly on our Loungeroom wall. Fun personality.

    Capper doesn't get the credit he deserves because he was viewed as a show pony, which was mortal sin in the eighties. Fact is there's not too many players who could put together a highlight reel like this. Great vid!

      @J G so random a post, jealous much? Well if that's the case you wont get to see that then. Enjoy your sh1t A league games in the meantime. Is soccer even bigger than the Womens AFL? Cricket, AFL, both Rugby codes and even basketball is bigger at the moment.
      PS. Why are you even here? Haven't you got some other diving videos you can watch?

    About a dozen years ago, I was on a cruise ship sailing from Maui to Australia and New Zealand (four days in each nation) and I was about 45 maybe 50 kilometers from Sydney and I’m at a pub and I kid you not, Warrick Capper sits next to me and he was so affable, chipper and a manly guy. A cool dude indeed. In nine years he played 125 games and booted 388 goals with a 3.1 goals per game average. He said that Chris Langford and Stephen Silvagni were the toughest opponents he ever faced.

    Love how he gets straight up turns around and looks forward toward goal to play on quickly most of the time. Too many players now days walk back slow with their back towards the play ☺️

    Capper was one of the greats but he doesn't get talked about as much as some of the other greats because of his image. He deserves to be in the AFL Hall of Fame already. Aside from his goal kicking his spectacular marks and long hair etc He added a lot of excitement to games and was the perfect spearhead to promote The Sydney Swans when they needed lots of publicity. I'm sure there would have been a lot of people who watched The Swans games just to see him. He did cost them a lot of money and it's hard to know for sure if it was worth it money wise particularly when the club was struggling but in terms of enjoyment for the fans he was amazing value and in 1987 The Sydney Swans actually did pretty well that year finishing about 4th or thereabouts and then when they traded him because they needed to save money Sydney went down the ladder and for some reason Capper went from kicking about 100 goals in a season or more to I think about 40 for The Brisbane Bears. He later said they wouldn't kick the ball to him as much as had happened in Sydney. I don't know. Maybe it was his fault as well. And when he went back to The Swans a few years later he didn't do as well as the first time around. Still..I'm his prime he was an absolute gun to watch. I wish he was playing today actually.

    • @diannehogan7605
      @diannehogan7605 Před rokem +1

      When Capper was at Sydney, he was helped by pinpoint delivery from blokes like Greg Williams and Gerard Healy, which Brisbane couldn't match. It doesn't matter how good your marks are, if you have sloppy delivery you're going to struggle.

    • @lunch2102
      @lunch2102 Před 4 lety +2

      As I understand it, there was a queue of players wanting to kick Capper in the face, Martin saw an opportunity and seized it, no different than Plugger eye gouging Martin for out marking him in the 96 GF.

  • @every1665
    @every1665 Před 3 lety +5

    Similar to Mark Jackson, Capper was never really given the respect he deserves simply because he was an entertainer at the same time. For some reason, the AFL hierarchy hate, or are scared of, players with more talent than just football. It's a form of discrimination every bit as serious as racism or sexism, but because it's not on the official list of things to be outraged about, it's accepted.
