Just maintain your instrument properly. Valve oil is not to un-stick a sticky valve, but to prevent it sticking in the first place. It's also wise to completely dismantle and run a cleaning rod through the valve casings from time to time. I like to polish the valves at the same time with my preferred metal polish.
It is nice to see a memorized solo played on a euphonium and played with so much class, confidence, and character. I'd pay to hear this played this well again...in person.
In an attempt to inspired one of my beginning trumpet players to switch to euphonium / baritone, I found this video to inspire her. WOW!! Excellent and very challenging! Thank you!!
I'd just like to say, that it's nice to hear this version which a very slightly different one than that of David Childs....which seems to take it a little bit faster. Thumbs up Emily... Well Done!!
Love those guys who have to throw out their resume. Just give the girl her deserved props Ross. Great playing. Can't wait to hear from you in the future.
This gorgeous lady is a brilliant soloist, superbly played! Not only a gifted musician but she is stunning too 😂 didn’t think Brass Bands had stunners playing in them!
Emily's Latest performance of The Mist Through Dawn written for her by Paul Lovatt-cooper can be see at The Mist Through Dawn - The Co-operative Funeralcare Band North West
Dadburn kids today. Making me regret messing around during band instead of learning how to play my baritone horn anywhere close to as good as she does. I also love this piece.
Nice to hear another solo piece for euphonium. With exception from some composers, such instruments tend to get stuck with harmonies (mind you, not that THAT's such a bad thing, but still0
As a 16-year old Euphonist who's committed himself to a poorly underrated instrument since the 7th grade, I should tell that there is no other instrument more worth committing your time to than the Euphonium. Nothing quite sounds as beautiful as the Euphonium, nor as calm and unique. Not enough people play the Euphonium, and that honestly angers me. It's simply good to know you've committed yourself to one of the more... sweet-sounding instruments in the brass family. Keep going... preferably in Bass Clef.
Luis Rosario I've actually never understood why euphonium parts 'should' be written and read in Bass Cleff? I'm never able to keep te notes above the c above the bar apart so I end up playing the wrong notes in the upper register... Treble Clef is so much easier for this... But could be because I am used to treble clef because I initially was a baritone horn player in my first years in brass XD
TheJH1015 Baritone or Euphonium, they both are capable of playing in either Treble or Bass Clef, hell you can play in Tenor Clef or French Violin Clef if you want to (yes that exists). The clef itself isn't really the challenge, it's the switch of home key signatures: the key the instrument is tuned in. Usually a Euphonium is in the key of Bb if reading trumpet music and C if reading bass clef.
Im playing this in my middle school solo and ensemble but I can't play the fast part accurately:( But at least I can reach the 3rd octave Eb at the end.
If you're right, then her instrument is really flat! She plays it on 1st valve. Also it is the same note as top c on my tenor horn. So be my guest and work it out
Anyone else freak out at 4:47 when her second valve started sticking?
Just maintain your instrument properly. Valve oil is not to un-stick a sticky valve, but to prevent it sticking in the first place. It's also wise to completely dismantle and run a cleaning rod through the valve casings from time to time. I like to polish the valves at the same time with my preferred metal polish.
I just watched "Sound! Euphonium" so I was pleased at the chance to hear the mellow sounds of the instrument again.
It is nice to see a memorized solo played on a euphonium and played with so much class, confidence, and character. I'd pay to hear this played this well again...in person.
Thank you both. I do tend to memorise my pieces but I like to have the sheet music on a low stand as a back up!
My grandfather William Ferguson played the instrument on live radio from Glasgow 1923

Ian McKinnon thank you, I appreciate the compliment 😊
I am a 13 year old girl and I have been playing the euphonium for 2 years
good commitment, keep playing, one day you'll be an expert... and if you keeep playing, one day you'll become masterful

It's easier to read low parts in bass clef (especially the pedal stuff) and high ones in treble clef. I read both, but I'm native on bass clef.
congratulations
It makes a change to hear someone playing without hearing big breathing gasps
This is lovely great tone😂
I would love to play that song
Very impressive playing! Hey chaps?
Wow.
Que tal habilidad!!!
Im playing this in my middle school solo and ensemble but I can't play the fast part accurately:( But at least I can reach the 3rd octave Eb at the end.
I want to be as good as her one day

M~Poco piumosso
It was a very very short Arranger
Whoa ..that note at 5:08...!!
'super f' ('f' above top 'c')
absolutely beautiful playing - im really jealous! come and play for me at whitchurch band please!
jeremy jones are you sure its an "f"? im not perfect pitch, but i thought it was a "bflat" and my tuner agrees with me.
iamnotadingleberry "Eflat" sorry my mistake
If you're right, then her instrument is really flat! She plays it on 1st valve. Also it is the same note as top c on my tenor horn. So be my guest and work it out
jeremy jones are you looking at this from treble clef because an f is a concert e flat.
5:07 nice
i am interested because the baritone is a quite low instument
Euphonium is 2052 or 967?
Does anyone know what kind of mouthpiece she is playing on?
+ST BariTC Denis Wick Steven Mead signature, usually around size 3 in high level brass band playing
Thanks, I thought so. I just couldn't really tell for sure from the angle that the recording was in
"My peni--" *shots fired, i am dead*
ST BariTC 5
nobody talking about how she just leaves out halve of the first page?? great performance though
Thanks for your comment. This was part of a long band concert so it was best to leave the cadenza out.
What is the former name of this band, excellent soloist
Show girl
lol
Respekt, Respekt, Respekt, aber das 4. Ventil ist nicht umsonst...
Well played solo
Band could have kept a bit more below the soloist at times
Graeme Euph n
Great performance, the accompaniment is a touch too loud
Amazing playing! Depressing band name though. Get on with yo bad selves, you agreeable morticians?
Wow!!!
