I bought a new Cub Cadet, so here's my opinion of it.

If you switch the key to the middle "run over your child" mode, that is what allows you to mow in reverse. It's a safety feature.

Tape the switch down and put it in reverse mow mode and you’re good to go.

You need to read the manual and understand how to operate it in reverse and also how to operate it to keep the engine running when you get off of it
