I would disagree with you, but these vids are not essential to a new players. I´ve been into this for 20 years and it has it´s own charm to discover what works for you and what doesn´t. Also vids like these, while quality, are made in certain mindset. Unless you want to play tournaments, you don´t need to always need to bring super optimal units. Take what you like, if you like the model, just play it. It´s good to have some idea about stuff and minis, but what I would recomend, really play what excites you, what seems cool, regardless of how powerful it is on the tabletop.

I've recently found that eliminators with las fusils are the BUSINESS. I had a couple units lying around and wanted to see how they did...Turns out S9, AP-3, D6 damage is really strong when you combine it with Oath of Moment, deathwatch mission tactics and special ammo stratagems. Oh and they get devestating wounds if they don't move...Add a phobos librarian and they can't be shot at more than 12" away. There's so much more you can do with them but I don't want to write more of a novel than I already have.

The Librarians will keep your eliminators from getting shot at from across the board while the infiltrators keep your back line safe from any deep strike shennanigans. This video really changes my view on the game. I am mainly a guard player and was ready to give up on the game since killing things became very hard since 10th edtion.
After watching your tips on army building I realised that guard has many fast and cheap obj takers and I won a game today with almost my entire army dead, but I outscored my opponent big time.
I used ratlings and Cadians in Tauroxes as cheap and fast secondary cappers. It was even the first time I used commissars in 10th edition since they can both stop battleshock and increase OC.
They way I saw this game was all about who can kill the enemy the fastest and I struggled with my cheap light infantry. Seeing them as expandebale obj takers and how important speed is in this game made a big difference.
Thank you, you saved me from giving up on this hobby, that I put so much money into.

The way Sisters of Battle has basically none of these except probably synergy units…
Primary Objective holders: the only sensible option in the index are Battle Sisters but a squad of them is really pricey for how fragile and combat ineffective at long range they are (110 pts)
Secondary Objectives: Only two logical choices here: Dominions with their scout move (130 points for 10 models) or Seraphim or Zephyrim aka our only source of deep strike (70 points for 5 or 140 for 10) but it’s hard to include enough of these for them to be effective due to again, how fragile they are or without including Celestine (150 points) for the heals
Damage dealers: again are generally way overcosted for how low their damage output is. It’s hard to justify Morvenn leading paragon warsuits (375 points total) when you could just as easily include two Castigators
Idk…my point isn’t that points buffs are the only thing that’s gonna fix Sisters but it would go a long way. That and some better options for unit sizes for Battle Sisters

Drukhari are not terrible at contesting objectives as warriors have OC2 and once an objective is captured they hold it even if they leave. Raiders and natural high movement rate make getting there easy, it's surviving afterwards that's the issue. I'm leaning towards a list that is heavy on infantry, particularly scourges, warriors and playing more of a gun line style (26 dark lances in 2k point list) with Wyches and Lelith as a counter attacking melee threat, I'll have to think about the mandrakes.

That's the best way of describing why Grey knights suck.
They don't have any of those things.
No cheap home Objective unit. Closest is a 5 man strike squad but that's literally doing nothing else and cannot do anything else while doing that job.
Small secondary scoring units are also not really a thing in the GK wheelhouse. Servitors are 50 points but obsec 0 and need a 100point character to do... anything at all. Maybe a small inceptors squad with their move, shoot move thing but they are so damn expensive and they do nothing but move good.
Big hitting units you would think that the literal daemon hunter chapter of space marines would be good for but nope. They have water pistols and some okay melee weapons for elite infantry only. Nothing for dealing with armour. Nothing for opening up hard target infantry like terminators. They can deal some damage to light infantry and are pretty okay in melee vs middle grade armour. But that's it. Blunt, very specialised, very restricted general damage.
The only thing the GK kind of do is synergies, but only the synergy of squad get good because leader do a buff. You can make a squad deal better with hordes (not the problem they have) with a Brother Captain, wound easier with a chaplain or have a defensive buff (voltan is my dude) but that's again, kind of it.
The Grandmaster is a particularly bullpoop debuffed unit for some reason. Regular, average space marine captain get his special once per battle CP discount, but they do it every turn for a cheaper points value.
So it's not so much decent synergies it's basically they get perfectly normal leaders that everyone gets and nothing else.
So out of the 4 categories here they kind of cover half of one.

I'm going to be honest: yes and no. A well balanced list is strong in the ideal, but sometimes going hard in on a game plan is better. And the well rounded all comers list can be countered by lists that don't care about anti-vehicle or anti-horde.

    10th edition anti-vehicle rant
There's rarely any anti-vehicle melee in 10th edition. Custodian guard used to eat Rhinos in melee... now? I feel like everything has lost anti-vehicle capability because of toughness rebalances. Vehciles are like, way harder to wound now.
Plasma guns are strength 7 and 8 on overcharge, Melta is flat 8 strength with good damage... but many vehicles are Toughness 9 to 12. Only landspeeders, walkers and bikes are threatened by plasma these days. I'm salty I own a lot of plasma.
I haven't killed a vehicle this edition without a lascannon. Idk maybe my rant is off, but like I miss vehicles being challenged by strong melee units and specialist weapons fire. I feel like all my modeled and magnetized combi-weapon options (I painted all the options too) are now all lame generic 4 strength anti-infantry bolters with no variety. Big sad. I will be enjoying Kill Team 1 again. Rant concluded.
I also have beef with the twin-linked rule reducing total number of shots too. If I have two of the same guns, I should be shooting two guns. But that's a rant for another comment section.

    • @samhunter1205
      @samhunter1205 Před 11 měsíci +2

I agree with a lot of what you have said (most melee infantry is utter garbage in 10th unless you have access to some way of improving criticals and access to lethal hits or maybe devastating wounds), but removing double shots for twin-linked weapons was a good move. The game needed less devastating weapons, including reducing the insane rate of fire many models had in 9th.
With regard to weapons like plasma, I don't mind some weapons being differentiated to work best against lighter armour and heavy infantry, and I don't mind vehicles being more durable than they were in 9th, where unless you had an invul save a vehicle was usually a liability. What I do think is stupid is massively increasing vehicle survivability, restricting what unit types can realistically harm vehicles AND THEN totally de-restricting list building so every army can easily spam vehicles (or monsters). The lack of thought behind that is just mind-boggling.

    • @doublethebenjamin8185
      @doublethebenjamin8185 Před 11 měsíci

I agree with a lot of what you said. However, for a decent amount of armies there is at least one melee unit that can wreck vehicles. Space Marines have two primarchs, WE have Angron, DG has Mortiarian, Tsons has Magnus, Chaos marines have Abaddon, there's Khorne Lord of Skulls, Aeldar have Avatar of Khaine and the big wraith unite, Necrons have C'tan, Daemons have greater daemons, Orks have those gorkanaught things, etc. But, some armies don't have any good anti vehicle melee. Also, the new plastic knight lancer is probably a decent option for adding in to an imperium or chaos list.

@@doublethebenjamin8185 notice that almost every option you listed is a monster? Out of the units you listed, only Abaddon is infantry, and he is an epic hero. Infantry melee has been severely nerfed in 10th.

I agree with the principle of infantry melee kinda sucks now. And I hate that because that’s literally all Templars are.
Space marine melee isn’t just bad against vehicles, it’s bad against….everything. My local scene has gone all higher toughness so I’m seeing Custodes infantry, and tyranid monster mash.
It’s so bad that I’m probably not buying anymore space marines for that crusade, unless they wow me with the jump assault primaris having all power fists or something. Gladiators are out of print for the edition with how stupid good they are, nothing else really delivers, and our infantry can’t punish anything anymore.
Im even looking at vehicles for my thousand sons because the whombo combo isn’t enough to win except against maybe knights because you’re only deleting one thing a turn and have to put all the eggs in one basket to do it.

You certainly have enough damage dealing there and that list will be a pain to take down. You might want to consider replacing one thunderwolf character with some cheap secondary grabbing units. The ultra competitive ones right now are exaction squads; but they will be "corrected for" in the next points update so you might need an alternative.
