    Amazing, no one else on youtube has video instructions of this depth of knowledge for this particular model vehicle. Considering that this vehicle is still popular and prevalent on the road after all this time is a testament to the value of this man’s achievement here. Well done mate, well done!

    Xcellent video.in your experience would it hurt the engine to set at 1.00.mine is 2006 with the number 1 timing set up.after idle does this setting negate . Have 15lb boost.have increased fuel on main screw.

    Well explained. Do u know anything relating to the 6 cylinder RD28t motor on A GQ. The harmonic balancer does not have a TDC mark, but has a bottom dead centre mark on the expansion stroke. I have an actual Nissan manual that says this too and illustrates it. As does the Gregory's manual. So when timing the fuel pump, it says start on the bottom dead centre mark, turn it back a little before TDC, move to TDC, then take the measurement. But as I said - no TDC mark to use. Its stupid. U need TDC to time any pump. The Bottom dead centre mark is used on these to align the crankshaft and camshaft marks when doing a timing belt on this engine.Never seen this before on another engine. Like to know yor thoughts. Also Curious to know how many beers u you went thru on the job.

      Hey mate
      Nope never touched 1 but could you take the rocker cover off get number 1 rocking pull a glow plug out and put a long dial intercator or some thing in the hole and measure it as the piston goes up then down to work it out. Just an idea
      I enjoy a beer or to after ive made the videos it more like we are hanging out fixing cars together feeling haha
      Hope this helps mate take it easy Byron

    Hi Byron Paul here with Green gu we met at big galah ,have you done vid on replacing fuel shut off solenoid on 11mm pump ,get shudder when turn engine off, tomorrow I be disconnecting board turbo timer which been on vehicle for years now since was 3L ,now td42t ,I recon it's this causing the occasional shudder as it plugs straight in ignition line in steering column, also timber works one minute and doesn't the next so could very well be cause of shudder that's tomorrow Saturday job and find out if made any difference, but if it doesn't then could be fuel shut off solenoid, which I check wiring beforehand to make sure that is ok . Injectors only few years old idles smooth and drives good ,yea the shut off solenoid sits right under fuel screw by the looks on 11mm pump ,have you replaced one before ? Atm been looking around for another 5 speed gearbox ,if you remember I lost lol 5th near Port Augusta, Nissan fixed the issue in 2005 upward manual gearboxes ,so been looking at 2009 model gu 5 speed that done 190thousand for 900 dollars ,yea not rich enough for price of recon atm which is about 4 grand ,I will have to replace clutch ,one in it is 4years old an exedy heavey duty ,but need one to handle nearb500nm torque n I am best to replace rear main seal while gearbox is off ,got some work atm on wife's cushions horse farm odd jobs trimming trees etc till something better comes along, been looking at mine and lab jobs but been twenty years since I worked in mines n labs so certs well out of date now ,great vid once again Byron any vids or advice be awesome

      Ive just gotten back from Adelaide
      Oh boy what a trip
      Sorry no i haven't done a video on a fuel shut off solenoid but ive got a spare pump in the shed ill have a look
      A bugger about the box a second handy should be fine
      If you have the box out upgrade the clutch and replace that rear main seal
      Good to hear you and the family are settling in to WA

    I have a 1hz toyota engine. Can’t I just line up the factory fuel pump timing mark ? Do I need a dial indicator to time the pump?

    • @downtheshedwithbyron
      @downtheshedwithbyron  Před rokem +1

      I haven't been able to work on one yet but timing marks will be ok but you do need to timing set plunger height for best performance

    Hey mate, just had a 12mm fixed pump put on my td42ti and now has a terrible cold start. Sounds like a dropped cylinder. Which way should I be moving the pump little bit to see if I can clear it up? Thanks

      I am fitting a rebuilt pump cost me $2000 so it means a lot to me to do it right, lift is 0.59 4 degrees before TDC but not sure if pump needs to be straight or some kind of angle before I set lift.
