  • This tutorial is the first part of the stain & glaze trilogy series for the Ivoclar rapid e.max firing cycle (and it works for all the e.max firing cycles). Once the restoration is milled, the e.max posterior restoration is efficiently shaped for morphological refinement, surface texture, and surface finish using the Dr. James Klim Meisinger JK03 Lab bur kit specially designed for CEREC users.

This video will show the burs and polishing workflow I use preparing e.max for either brush-on or spray glaze Make sure your whole team views this video, it is excellent for training and standardizing the e.max finishing workflow.

    Good morning Jim!
I am going to have my assistant sign up for your yearly membership today. Thanks so much for these videos. Would you use the same technique for Dentsply tesssera? I’m using those more than Emax because the mill time and firing time are quicker, of course, with the speed fire. I know I need to get a clamshell just so many expenses at once. Happy sabbath 😊

Hi Aaron. May all be well. I love making videos, so there are a lot more to come. So here is my take on Tessera. I have yet to use it for the following reasons. Independent studies (Lubauer, Belli, Peterlik, Hurled & Lohbauer 2022) show the following with Fracture Toughness. e.max 2.13, Initial LISI block 1.50, Celtra Duo 1.51, and Tessera 1.45. Dr. Bob Kelly has stated that the most predictable measured physical metric projecting ceramic longevity is Fracture Toughness. For molars, the benchmark is a Fracture toughness of 2.0 or greater. On the other hand, Empress ( Fracture Toughness of 1.08) has been used on molars for years, however, with enamel preservation concepts. So for full crowns, I have chosen to stay with e.max and give more time before jumping into new materials. Celtra has a poor track record. We have yet to determine anecdotally how Tessera is going to perform. With ideal preps and adequate occlusal thickness, it will probably do okay. I have performed enough replacements in my career because of using new materials too soon. That is one reason I did not embrace Celtra. I view Tessera with the same caution review for now.

If this is a crown in your mouth, ask your dentist about it. All the best!

I get it. I too experiene the rush Man. I love your bur designs and sequence but have been unable to order Mesinger burs in the marketplace. I'd appreciate a reliable contact number if you wish, or can I buy bur sets and replacements through you directly? Keep up the craftsmanship
