The reason why the infected “kissed” her is cause I think it sensed that she was infected and the tendrils spread the hive mind the quickest and used their mouths to spread it even further. But in the podcast of the show the reason why the infected is so calm and approaches her, is cause the creators of the show said that the infection won’t be aggressive towards us if we don’t fight back, and Tess just being still and almost accepting her fate, encourages the infected to be calm with her, and spread the infection with ease with the tendrils. Lots of new stuff to consider compared to the game

if you can compare it to the old man in the first episode. he struggled against the old woman, the reason why he got bit in the neck instead of the fungus being transmitted orally.
@@hectorsumaoang2320 Yes. In addition, I think in Tess's case she was already starting to "turn," if you will. And based on the information they've told us about the fungus, it's pretty clear that it starts to take over the body and mind. So I think at that point Tess was just too far gone to move/resist.

@@nEthing4Her well she says that she never asked Joel to feel the way she did about him, implying that she had intimate feelings about Joel. So it was probably a combination of her not forcing her feelings on him, because she knows how he feels about her. Also they didn’t kiss in the game, but I don’t think I’d kiss anyone if I knew I was infected. But the creators of the show said when the infected kisses her, it’s supposed to signify the kiss she was yearning for from Joel in that moment you’re talking about.
Heads up #2. Fungus in real life doesn't particularly love UV light so that's why they reacted that way to the sun. This is why you don't really see zombies out roaming in the sunlight that often. They usually stay where it's dark and damp where fungus tends to thrive in nature.

Just a heads up: Zombies in this world aren't dead like in traditional zombie lore. The fungus takes control of a LIVING host and controls their brains seeking to spread. It actually happens in nature with many insects. So, once someone is dead, they're dead and the fungus can no longer use their body. This is why the clickers bled out in the later scene. It's also why the guy who was mauled didn't come to life. It's a much more realistic version of a zombie apocalypse with living organisms instead of dead ones.
why do people think they are going to get back like zombies. they are not zombies, they are infected. when they die they're dead they are not coming back.

To add on, the infected are still cognizant and aware but have no control of their bodies. So in the game you can hear them cry and wail sometimes, it’s fucking creepy. Once they turn into clickers though their brain is split in half so their consciousness is gone by that point
So are the human consciousness are still there? Can the human still see or feel what they’re doing even when they’re not in control anymore?

Yeah I love that scene. It just shows how dire the situation is. Regular people might think oh that's extreme why not quarantine or track them down not realizing the R0 of transmission. When she was shaking putting the tea down I already knew what she was thinking and what should be done because 14 quickly becomes the entire population of the city very. Not even mentioning the fact that the grain is infected and already shipped all over the world.
Agreed. The fact that even after they were suggested to bomb the entire city at that time, the fungus kept on spreading throughout the entire world within 2 FUCKING DAYS. Quarantine will have no effect in this dire situation

i can’t fault HBO for that tbh because it’s a smart business move. Instead of dropping the whole season at once and people watching HBO for like a week only to binge watch….they forcing people to come back every week which just runs up their numbers and they can just keep promoting shit..:plus people gotta pay for the 2nd month HBO subscription for the rest of the 7 weeks
After these 2 episodes I conclude in my own opinion that this show has been overhyped. Ofcourse the plot and the charachters are very well put together and established. The zombie mechanics are unlike anything we've seen before and the show itself looks amazing. The problem i have is that nothing really happens. We have a interesting objective but the journey to it is pretty boring. Theres very little dialogue and most scenes are just tension build ups. Maybe I am wrong about this show and it just starts of slow but it pops of later on (like most shows do). But for these 2 episodes this is my opinion
@@kc_h7h as you said, it's only been 2 episodes. Generally shows need some time to drop exposition and stuff before picking up so it's still too early to judge whether it's overhyped or not.
@@kc_h7h i mean last of us is just a very character driven story, if you've played the game then you would know instantly. the first few episodes will probably be about Joel and Ellie's relationship building up, thus making Joel grow as a person who's very to himself and pretty cautious when trusting others to someone who cares for life which is like the primary focus of TLOU, at least the first game anyway.
Honestly, I'd rather have 1 episode per week. For example, every season The Boys always release their first 3 episodes the first week of the season, & imo it just makes the season go by too fast. So instead of having 8 weeks of The Boys, you're really only getting 6 weeks. Having it released 1 episode per weeks gives you something to look forward to every week, and all these reactors won't binge it so fast. Lol
The infected that got to Tess was actually a Stalker. You can almost think of the infected as having stages. Runners are your typical starting infected with being newly turned people and Stalkers are the second stage. They’re slightly more intelligent and dangerous. They can be seen to have fungal growth already growing on them on one side of their face.
No both of them were definitely clickers.

And gang, don't forget that in the beginning the workers infected were working at a flower and grain factory. And in the first episode, we see the old lady eating biscuits and our main characters avoided anything that had flour So outside of getting bit, it seems the other way people were getting infected was with the food

My understanding for the "kiss" is most likely the infected know she is infected thats why it didn't attack her, I believe it was trying to "form a connection" with the strands in the mouth so that stuff was most likely going all the way into her throat to make her into a new host.
Exactly my thought at first, but I read in an interview with the creators that they moved slowly toward Tess bc she wasn’t agressively defending herself, so there wasnt any point for the infected to be agressive as well. Sum like the fungus has just a goal of spreading, so as long as you are « peaceful », the infected will act « peacefully », so instead of eating you they’ll just try to spread it by.. kissing you ig?

The main goal of the infected is to spread the infection and add more to the hive mind.
If you watch the first episode again, the old lady in the beginning isn’t eating the other woman or biting her when Sarah comes in. Her mouth is actually on the woman’s ear. The tendrils are going in through the ear to reach the brain
We also saw that chart that explains that leg bites take the longest to take hold, the arms are a bit quicker, and neck/head is the quickest. That’s because the fungus has to travel through the body to reach the brain.
The actual quickest way to spread the infection is through the face. Letting the tendrils enter the mouth ears or even nose would be way faster than a bite somewhere else
So if the victim isn’t fighting, there’s no need to bite and wait for it to work up to the brain.
The woman in indonesia is correct. There are no medicines or vaccines. Fungal diseases are much harder to treat than bacterial infections because fungi, like humans, are made of eukaryotic cells and share the same basic cell structures. So getting a treatment that targets the fungus and not the humans is almost impossible

the longer one is infected the more they evolve, from runner which is 1-2 days, stalker 2 weeks - 1year, clicker 1+ year these ones are blind and use eco location like the two in the museum, the rest i wont spoil.

The thing with fungi... is that it's really hard to kill 100% even with string chemicals. In agriculture, there are fungi that are parasitic to some plants. They invade the roots and take the nutrients from the plants. The are very powerful chemicals that can be used to try to "nuke" the fungus, but once you find it, your best option is to rotate to a crop that is not affected by that fungus.
The only other effective way is to use another fungus, a symbiotic fungus that benefits the plant and inoculate the plants with it. Since there is already a fungus "installed" in the plant, any other fungus that tries to get in is pretty much killed by the current one.
My theory with Ellie has always been that she might have been infected by a variant of the fungus that evolved to be symbiotic and not parasitic... in any case, you wouldn't be able to make a cure out of it. At most, you could find a way to infect others with the symbiotic fungus.
The whole hive mine thing reminds me of stranger things with all the vines and how it’s underground and it all connects it’s crazy how much influence older games or shows have on the stuff we watch today

They are not zombies so they wouldn’t just be chillin under the water. The infected are still alive that’s what’s so awful about it, there’s still people in there but they are no longer in control of their bodies. You don’t need a “head shot” to kill the infected, anyway you could kill a human can kill them. Clickers and older infected are harder to kill because the fungus has grown so much more on them and hardened, forming a sort of armor

Just throwing it out there, but my guess they made that part with Tess getting kissed by the infected "intimate", cause even Joel didn't say anything or show any intimacy before he left, not a hug or a blow of a kiss if he didnt want to touch her. Since she was infected already slowly getting into the hive mind, she probably wanted a kiss from Joel before she died but couldnt. Plus thats the fastest way to spread as well. I personally saw it in that symbolism.
