Beautiful Pugs you have there! I like it! I just picked up an old Pugsley of my own today. My first Surly bike. Still thinking of what direction I want to go with it.

Cool bike! Love it! And what are the advantages to single speed besides single speed racing? (Hope you had a great race, by the way!)
On my Pugsley I put an eight speed Shimano hub and love the zero maintenance and ease of use, but after a full year of driving it--I am sick of the drag! Hubs drag. That's all there is to it. Especially these cheaper ones. I am thinking of either going back to the 1x10 set up I had before or going single speed. I think single speed would be fun until winter hits and the snow piles up and I need to shift some gears? Or maybe it's a good low maintenance all-around way to go? Dunno. Haven't driven a single speed bike since I was a kid and we didn't drive bikes daily in the winter, like I do now. I commute daily and go out for fun on my time off. Mostly pavement, concrete and gravel grinding 'round these parts. Not much else. And that's just fine by me. Any thoughts?

I got into single speed because a guy i ride with(super advanced) rode one, and he told me it was the secret to getting better. I 100% agree with him. Its one of those things you gotta just kinda try it.
This winter i will be going back to 1x10 set up for fatbiking. There's quite a few times when i gotta climb a long steep hill, or when the snows all slogged out and you just gotta lug in a low gear.
Give it a try! You just might fall in love! Sometimes you gotta play with the gear ratios until you find a sweet spot. Right now im running 30/18

Any problems in using “slimmer” tyres?
