Oh I love it!! make the Au pair feel familiar at the very beginning. Doing a poster for them, asking them what kind of shampoo they like, or something to eat (breakfast) so you can already provide that and don’t need to think of this at the beginning is a great start. Maybe take them out for dinner on the day they arrive so they can choose their dinner by themselves. This was helpful for me to feel directly comfortable! Also my room was already really pretty (czcams.com/video/tLPSefha4DI/video.html / Au pair room tour in America 2020) and I felt super relaxed in there.
Btw my host parents always made me feel comfortable bc they literally asked me out to every single event, they never were mad if I said no but I got the feeling they really wanted me to join.
