    Wow just seeing this out of the box czcams.com/users/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

    current trout set up for me: Phoenix light action 7' rod with a Penn Battle 3 in the 2000 size. Spooled 6lb mono and I use a 4lb fluorocarbon leader. First day I used this combo, caught my PB at Lake Dixon. 7Lb Rainbow. My rig, out the door cost $240. I paid $120 for the rod, $120 for the Penn Reel. They strung it for free with 6lb mono. I had 4lb fluorocarbon for a leader. Caught them on Kastmasters and Hook Up Baits.....grey shad (or something). And as always, great video Mr. Kim!

    My favorite rod/setup is 6’6” Favorite Yampa River paired with an Okuma Epixor size 20 and that’s a light but durable combo. And second would have to be 7’0” Lamiglass X11 with a Piscifun Carbon X 1000 series. That black on black combo looks stealthy 🔥 and the Piscifun reel is super light 🪶 the Lamiglass rod feels so smooth when you hook on a fish!

    The old Penn SS 4300 spinning reels are bulletproof, worm drive and brass gears easy break down and maintenance, pared up with a stiff 6' - 6' 6" spinning rod or a 7' - 7' -6" medium spinning rod for distance can't be beat especially if you can find the old castaways or allstar Rods! And a shock leader of 6' -10' of floulcarbon line double the weight of main line will allow to you use a lighter and smaller diameter main line, a spinning rod & reel will allow to fish any coastal waters no matter how hard the wind blows! A great and versatile set up!

    I love trout fishing, but unlike using topical spinning setup for the job, I prefer baitcasting setup instead, because personally I find it's much more efficient when you're wading in the river/stream targeting deep pocket for trout, flipping and flickering your lure to it. My personal setup is not an ideal setup for the average anglers, I used a Shimano Calcutta Conqest BFS (Baitcast Reel) pair up with the Shimano Cardiff Native Special 154UL-2 (5'4" ft long ultra light: 2pcs) baitcasting rod. For lines I prefer braid to leader, like 6lbs braided line to a 3lbs-5lbs fluorocarbon leader line about a yard long. My personal best trout fish is a 3lbs, I know is not that big, but this the biggest trout i catch so far. About video advice/tips this is a good starting point for the average people/person who want to get into trout fishing ... nice video!

    The Shakespeare micro is a solid budget rod for beginners too. I have 4 of them. I'm slowly starting to upgrade to a little bit higher end rods (compared to the Shakespeare) I have a TFO 6'6" trout/panfish rods on order right now. It's in the 90-100 range. I've been told by many that I'll love it. I hope they're right 😁

    The daiwa exceler, legalis, and regal are almost the same reel. Their internals are pretty much identical. If those reels are in your budget, go with whichever of the 3 is cheaper when you're buying. I have the exceler and for legalis. They are really great reels for $55 (that's what I paid for each of the legalis) to $65 (that's what I paid for the exceler... It was actually cheaper than the legalis at the time I bought it. I do like the one piece handle design on the exceler but I'm very satisfied with the legalis too. 🤷‍♂️

    @AndriiGumennyi Před 3 lety +2

    Thx for this video, especially about the differences between $30 and $200 reels. The weight was mentioned as the main difference, but what about working with the thin braids? In Ukraine ultralighters are focused on thin braids like #0.2-0.4PE. And a quality braid of this type costs around $40. And a lot of guys saying - if you'll buy a cheep reel, it will destroy your line, so you need something at least like daiwa exceler. What do you think about this? And one more question - about the spool size. There is no difference in weight between 1000 & 2000, why 1000 is the most often mentioned?

    • @BenjieKimFishing
      @BenjieKimFishing  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi there, thanks so much for such a thoughtful comment.
      To be honest, I don't have the experience to validate that a cheap reel will ruin braid. I've never personally heard that and I've never experienced that but I can't scientifically refute it either. I prefer at least slightly better reels (I start at the Daiwa Fuego LT) as their longevity is much better in my experience.
      Regarding spool size, for trout fishing most people here prefer a 1k as the majority of trout are very small and a 1k reel is perfect. But at the same time, it very well may be a cultural preference. I don't think a 2k would affect ones ability or enjoyment.

    I use this really nice 10-foot ultralight rod from dick's sporting good (60 dollar rod and reel combo)and I can really get those baits and lures out there, the reel was really low quality but as soon as I put on a really nice lightweight reel, I was catching corbina and spot fin croaker really nice. The runs on the would-be amazing and the rod's bend was really nice. Before fishing seasons two years ago for catfish derbies in the OC area, I'd come with my dad and I'd be catching them non stop and in less than 30 minutes, I'd have my 5 fish limit and go home. You should take your kids to the catfish derbies then Benjie when this pandemic is over, it is very fun and easy for kids to participate. In most lakes, you can use an ultra-light rod or just a decent light rod for those small stockers, and it's really fun to reel them in like corbina or spotfin. Thanks for this video!

    • @BenjieKimFishing
      @BenjieKimFishing  Před 3 lety

      They can certainly be used in the salt as almost all of my reels are 'freshwater'. But I'd recommend that you start from the Fuego if you want to use it in salt. Rationale being that cheaper reels just seem to not be built as well and in my experience, corrosion happens much faster.
      My main reels in the salt are the Shimano Stradic Ci4 3k, Daiwa Fuego LT 2.5K, Daiwa Tatula 103 (bait caster), and the Daiwa Tatula SV (bait caster). Every one of these reels are freshwater and they are all functioning beautifully with over 2 years of heavy use in salt. Of course, I do my best to rinse and maintain but I do vouch for they efficacy and longevity.
      I had a Daiwa Fuego baitcaster (cheaper reel $50) that I rigorously maintained and it still started to corrode in less than a year.
      Just my .02 but hopefully it is helpful.
