  • Ginny Buckley reviews the 1998 Nissan Patrol GR, and finds out if this value for money off-roader can match up against the Land Rover and Jeep Cherokee. She put's the handling and performance to the test, both on and off road, as well as seeing how practical it is as an everyday car.

Did she say 155 MPH ? no way in hell that thing would reach that speeds in stock form.

Yes, I heard that. My y61 patrol wouldn't do 150 mph! Not designed for speed but will go anywhere.

There has never been a Nissan Patrol capable of 155mph, it wouldn't do that even if you fitted the thing with NOS! They weigh about as much as a bungalow and only have a comparatively weedy 128 bhp. Their top speed is in fact 98mph. A bit embarrassing that a presenter on a major TV car show could get a figure such as MPH wrong, and more embarrassing that all the producers and editors overlooked it too. That kind of info is bread and butter for any self respecting petrolhead.

I think she meant km/h, which is about as fast as you can get the Patrol to go, i have had mine in 140, but i'm pretty sure i could get it to go up 150

I've got a 2001 3L Nissan patrol and im a first time 4WD OWNER, I Have oil leak on the driver side of the engine as well some where at the top it appears to be crank case fumes puffing out and I thought it may have to do with the carbon problems ive heard about, also it's got a tapping sound in the same area,so if anyone can give me some help would be great, also the car hasn't lost power or blowing smoke out the exhaust, . . . .Thanks
