Eroll Garner ...beautiful musician. Great story new to me , been playing Misty all my life, cant imagine a world without that tune.
Long live Eroll Garner
When I was but a young boy I would sometimes stay up well past what would be a normal bedtime and watch late night Talk shows like Steve Allen who originated the Tonight Show, or Jack Parr who replaced him there. It was one of those nights that I saw and heard Erroll Garner for the first time sometime in the late 1950's. I was immediately hooked on his style and his charisma. He just had that something that I still can't explain. My mother would allow me to stay up late and watch whenever he was on TV. My mother loved the idea that I was crazy about music at all and even bought me my first Beatles records. But to this day, I still remember seeing Erroll Garner on those late night talk shows and getting hooked on his great talent.
Wow! My mom did the same thing for me! When I tell people how I know about Erroll Garner and other jazz musicians during the 50s, " . . . I love my mama (you only get one).".
Wild. Such a shame this isn't talked about more. Thank you so much!
great video, and really nice story about a musician winning a battle against an exploitive record company.
Erroll Garner remains my most beloved jazz pianist. 'Concert by the Sea ' is still legendary. It was introduced to me by his older brother/teacher Linton Garner who was also successful and a loved mentor to two generations of musicians in Vancouver B.C., Canada.... God bless them both.
He takes autumn leaves on that album and really makes it something else ❤❤❤
Cool.
Thanks for sharing
Excellent effort Danny. Gems like this are the reason I have a YT account. Many thanks.
I literally discovered him recently. I've been inhaling all the recordings I can find. ❤

Hi,
I'm a thumbnail expert. I visited your CZcams channel for free. You have uploaded many videos. Your videos are very nice. But your video doesn't have good thumbnails. If your video thumbnail is good, you will get more views and subscribers which is very important for your channel. I will create your first thumbnail for free. Let me work on the thumbnails if that's okay. Let me know if you need creative thumbnails.
Thank you.
I heard that Art Blakey was a house PIANO player for a club. One night Erroll Garner came in and sat down and played.
That was the night that convinced Art to play drums full time!
If Garner didn't read music, he had to have perfect pitch and a photographic memory.
Excellent narrative thanks!
