The Cult - Edie (Ciao Baby) Acoustic Version

- A tribute to Edith (Edie) Minturn Sedgwick, a beautiful, wealthy, and troubled heiress who partied and lived the high life with a laundry list of celebrities, actors, artists, musicians, etc, at Andy Warhol's 'Factory'. 'Warhol's darling queen', she was the star of the Factory and was at the center of activity there. She became a minor celebrity herself over the years as a model, fashion icon, and actress. She died of a drug overdose at the age of 28.

I’m just floored that in all my 64 years almost now I’ve NEVER heard this acoustic version until today …. Two thumbs up 👍👍. Timeless classic ….. just as cool .
I never knew this song was bout about Sedgwick. She is a stunning beauty....what a tragic end to a short life for that young lady. I have loved the Cult since I first heard Electric in '87. Great band.
You have me beat by 10 years but feel the same. How did I miss this?
Same age and I just found it 3-26-2024. Loved this song since in came out in the late 80’s
A tragic story of a fragile & troubled girl... this is, the best version of the song....thanks for posting.
The Cult is one of my favorite bands. Massive fan of Electric....waited so many years to get another release....we got Sonic Temple. Slick record. I love this tune. No idea it was written for this stunning beauty. As I see these still shots, I realize how young that girl was. My daughter is 20 and two things....I feel so fucking old....and two...so many of these icons were so young when they passed. So sad that young lady passed at 28...tragic.
Ian has his own style nobody can ever replace his voice
His voice... Man, best singer ever!
and one of the best and most underrated bands of all time :(
Ian is sooo majestic
LOL
Yeah The CULT 🥰 Saved Rock n ROLL with She Sells Sanctuary 🤘😎🇨🇦
My mom would play the cult all the time early in morning. blasting it so loud .
I was like man she loves that guy Ian Ashbury.
makes me cry.... much love
My favourite version of this song
Haven't heard this version before but it's awesome. Great vocals and really suits the acoustic guitar .. which IMHO is probably Billy's best playing.
Music soothes my soul. It is the language of angels.
IT'S REALLY NOT
First time listening to this acoustic version, beautiful!!!
Yep, I was really surprised to hear this acoustic version just perfect cult !!!!!!
Wow! Didn't know this version existed. Possibly might like it better than the original.
Great photo montage.
Thank you.
Billy Duffy, one of the most underrated guitarist in music
He holds a chord really well.
Not underrated by me.
this version is exactly what i would expect from the Cult! what a tribute , , guitar go billy! ian ... sounding raw yet with sensitivity...
My stepmom died of cancer and she raised me since I was four. This song 🎶 is how much she loved 🥰 me. I miss her everyday
All the great bands are rising again this era needs it more than ever.avnt heard this version of Edie before it sent a shudder down my spine.awsome.cant wait for tour
So glad this version is part of the SONIC TEMPLE 30TH ANNIVERSARY boxed set, which I purchased a few nights ago! This is my favorite version of this classic!
One of the best rock bands I ever saw live. Too hard for pop or alternative audiences and too real for the glam scene. They were actually better live than the albums we bought.
Ian Astbury is one of the greatest singers and front men of all time! I love this version of Edie.
Such a pretty tribute to edie sedgwick superstar thank you for posting
SUPERSTAR ??????? WHAT ???????? THIS IS A CAUTIONARY TALE ...... ARE YOU LISTENING TO THIS SONG???
Incredible interpretation! Standing Ovation! 👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋🤘
But your not there.... 🖤
hauntingly beautiful
yes indeed....
Through all the shit Ian has gone through he continues to amaze with his talent and voice.
I didn't know of any shit Ian has gone through? I did see um couple year's ago always loved the cult
All the shit he’s gone through or the shit that’s gone through him?
I was and still am a huge Cult fan. This is the first time I heard the acoustic version of this song. How could I have missed it? Whatever . This version actually touched my soul. It's almost as if this song is not of this world, but belongs in a world greater than ours. I feel that common beings like us are not worthy to listen to it. I sound crazy, don't I? Maybe I am, but I can't ignore my feelings and wanted to share them. Ian's voice is remarkable and sends shivers down my spine, not sexually but joyfully. He can reduce me to tears. Oh God, I do sound crazy, but I tend to get very emotional about music so don't make fun of me. lol. However, if you guys do, I can take it. The Velvet Underground with Lou Reed sings "her life was saved by rock 'n roll." I believe that because it saved mine, but that's another story.
Right on.
I remember it was on a CD single. I think fire woman or Edie. I'm not sure which. Cd singles were cool at that time. They often had demos and live tracks.
same-I always loved this song, but never knew it was about her-I thought it was about a guy named "Eddie." And it wasn't 'till today that I learned they were from England-I always thought they were American. I was just trying to figure out what "She sells sanctuary" was about. The quote is hilarious. The violin bow info blew my mind.
+sooofunny37 I think She Sells Sanctuary is definitely about a man having sex with a woman which he feels gives him sanctuary. I also think the woman may be a prostitute since the title is She Sells Sanctuary, therefore selling sanctuary which means selling sex. IMHO.
It was on the Heart of Soul CD single I believe.
A superb version of a great song with lovely images.
Always thought Edie was such an underated track and this is a great version as instead of building it up they actually go down a notch with it....
Never heard this before, a missed classic.
she sure inspired a lot of great songs
One of 11 best ballads/evergreens ever, just next ro You can't always get...
Power &Drama, and power, it is!
RIP Eddie, Such a terrible childhood...nothing more to be said...
Great song!
Such a terrible Father her two brothers also met the same early fate
Interesting. Love the song. The images are superb capturing the Cult of Self, the evils of Modernism and how it destroys....maybe not in this life like Edie....but it will in the next.....
Awesome, absolutely divine. The Cult were/are so under-rated and under-publicised. A song to die and go to heaven (if there is such a place!) to. Totally amazing and, thankfully, timeless. Bravo Zulu (well done!), guys!!! Musical genius.
obviously an ex uk matelot with the BZ reference
Correct, mihearty - an ex-WAFU, to be precise. ;o)
Paradise takes time...beautifully done song. Lyrics will stick with you for days once you know them. Can't wait to see the Cult again July 26th, 2014 in Riverside, CA ...
I really like this acoustic version.
wow... I didn't realize this was about a real person until now. I also just heard this live version this week! Good version, love The Cult!!
Great song, awesome Ian and beautiful Edie!!!
so you're saying Ian is ugly and Edie is mediocre :p
She was an iconic lady with style!
I think this song is a beautiful & poetic tribute to celebrate her :)
This is the best slideshow music video I've ever seen. Thank you for posting and great job.

Wow, this great!
Sensacional!!!
Thank you so much :)
I'll be damned. This is one of my favorite songs of all time. .and yet, this is the first time I've actually heard this acoustic version. Thank goodness for CZcams. Ian's voice rocks this song like no other. Incredible the way this song leaves you feeling.
Same here. This song rocks. I love the 2001 concert in L.A. The guitar sounds so good!
That is some good stuff. Billy Duffy is awesome as is Ian. It amazes how music like this gets swept under the rug while mundane crap, such as Pearl Jam, gets elevated to Elvis stature.
Well this is a good song but dont think Pearl jam is crap... For me Elvis was good but lot covers helped him... Anyway they all good and deserve respect.
Whoa. Pearl jam Crap? Wtf universe are you from? They changed the face of music. Both of these bands. No sir i can NOT will NOT accept your comment as anything other than the Crap you talking about PJ.
@@johnhagan9277 Changed the face of music? LOL.
that just blew my mind WOW
Beautiful rendition ;)
Obrigada senhor..
This is nothing short of Brilliant 🤘🤘🤘
Essa versão é muito top. Viciante 🎸🤘
Master piece
amo mesmo the cult
teu jeitinho de amor não nega mesmo que vc é
Amazing
Oh my days.... Ciao Edie
Still an effing coo’ song!!!
Hammer !!!!
This song is beautiful anyway it´s been performed indeed
I love her
Ciao Edie baby
Great!
bella
I like this version
Edie Sedgwick I dream of you all the time... I wish I could be as honest and free as you were....
👽 linda música 👍
with heeeerrrrrr!!!!!!!
That first photo of her with Warhol is stunning. It looks like it could have been taken yesterday. Many of the others are completely dated but that one could be a book cover. In some ways this is a better version of the song, not so overproduced, which requires the singing to carry the tune. The lyrics are much clearer in this one.
My favorite song by the Cult and the acoustic version sounds better than the electric version in my opinion. Edie was such a beautiful model and her life during the Warhol days was like a shooting star. Burnt out much too soon. Ciao Edie.
❤
Masterpiece Duffy shredding 🤘
she was beautiful
I've always related this classic tune to Roger Waters "Amused to Death" in relation to what was inflicted upon Western Women. I read the book "Rise and fall of a girl on fire" ( I think that was the title) from the early eighties. I didn't have any idea who Edie Sedgewick was As a young man I simply fell in love with the pictures of her. In later years when I came across the Cult's rock tune on her life and the video I read more about her life. And in more recent years there was the movie "Factory Girl" which apparently had Bob Dylan going crazy about wanting beyond anything to protect the spirit of Edie. The true love of man for women has been represented eternally by the Cult. Without them we would have little drive for life.
E a melhor top💙💙💙💙💙👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The term 'superstar' was coined by Andy Warhol for her.
bealtiful woman
WHEW!
I just saw Chester Bennington do this version with Billy Duffy at the Kings of Chaos show. It was fucking brilliant..
it's on CZcams..from 12/18/2016 at the Paramount in NY.
i could look at her all day...
Wow, Andy Warhol looks so old for being so young in this video,/photos of him and Edie, must’ve been using quite a bit to look that old at such a young age.
muito foda a melhor banda de rock
great idea Steve...just saw Ciao Manhattan...awful movie but I still can not believe what that poor girl went through,, someone needs to do a realistic/good movie (not Factory Girl)
fred linne I've been looking for the film for a very long time!!
#1
I love this song to death.
Good as AXL? YES!!!!
Never met her, Eddie, I wish I have.
