When she was offered this song by Babyface, she wasn’t ready and declined. After her and Bobby’s tumultuous and rocky relationship, she reached out to Babyface and finally said she was ready. So you’re absolutely right!! She was singing her whole heart out in this one.
Whitney never sang a song without being able to feel it and you can just hear the emotion. THE Voice will live on forever.
Every single time I listen to Whitney live I get goosebumps--EVERY SINGLE TIME. This song was supposed to be on a previous album but Whitney didn’t think it was the right time. Baby Face finally pushed it on her on this soundtrack. But it is no secret that by this time there were rumors of Whitney and Bobby having marriage issues. And Whitney definitely put her heart and soul out on the stage that night. Again for those in the back--Whitney is the greatest vocalist of all time!!

She was singing to her husband Bobby Brown...I think they split up around this time but of course they got back together and were married for 14 years. Fun fact about this song though. Whitney would always say she could not sing a song if she did not feel it. Babyface wrote this song for her years prior to it being recorded for the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack. When it was originally written back in 93 I believe, Whitney turned it down because she wasn't feeling it. In 1995, she told Babyface she wanted it. She was ready to sing it.

If you want to know who Whitney is singing this song for, you better watch I Wanna Dance With Somebody. She was about to shelve this song when she's in her early twenties I think. She doesn't connect to the song yet at the time and cannot interpret it at fhe time. But after her issues with Bobby B uncovers as she goes throigh her marriage, she opted to record after understanding its meaning based on her experience.
