- Nissan RB30 SOHC 3L engine built and tuned by JPC making over 1200hp on Ethanol fuel. The engine still retains a factory block and crank. Improvements come from a custom JPC turbocharger, manifolding, roller rockers and cam gear. Fuel is fed via ID2000cc injectors and an Autronic computer system.
This engine has previously run 8.79 at 160.25mph (with less power) in a full weight (3250lb) Holden VL commodore through stock suspension, Powerglide transmission, 9in rear end and 28x9in slicks.

30psi. vs. 50psi. boost, dohc vs. sohc, 4 valves vs. 2 valves per. cyl., 2jz vs. rb30, turbo lag, blow off valves, etc. All this wisdom is just pouring through the armchair tuner community and you guys at JPC have the audacity to show an RB30 actually making over 1200hp on the dyno! Imagine what you could do if you only knew what your computer bound advisors are trying to tell you! I am truly LOL. Great work, by the way.

+Skylar Edge Don't even look like it has any DV.
+Skylar Edge what is BOV and is the turbo flutter bad
Austin Turner BOV = Blow Off Valve. & Turbo flutter or compression surge are not necessarily bad but it does wear down your turbo's life. Some will argue that but you choose, longer life turbo sounding normal, or short life turbo sounding wicked cool?
+Skylar Edge i have to go with turbo sounding wicked cool.
+Skylar Edge, compressor surge and flutter are not the same thing, i wish people would stop saying they are
That's the most brutal turbo flutter I've heard so far 😲

I love the fact that the whole intercooler and piping shifts at 1:11. That is some SERIOUS airflow.
I just love the sound of the RB engines. Makes me happy when I see an RB engine pushing over 1,000 HP. This one makes nearly a megawatt. Still, it should have a blow-off valve.
$500 for the first guy to touch the manifold. xD
i touched it. where is my $500. i even have the burnt scar to prove it!!

50psi? Im no gearhead but isn't that like....DAAAYUMMMMMM!!!! Amounts of boost?
Indeed it is.
yea it is. lol
Well considering in the 1980s especially 1986 formula one cars ran 5.5 bar boost pressur which is like 80psi in qualifying trim. Their motors produced anywhere from 1200-1450hp. 50psi is a lot don't get me wrong but there have been times were even more boost was used.
Ive seen a diesel run on 100 psi, I think it was actually 98, either way, still crazy high

That's not a RB30DET
It's a RB30ET
I saw some comments saying that this engine is an RB30DET
RB30DET is a single turbo RB30 Engine with rb20-26 DOHC head
This one still has the SOHC head so there's no D in it
The RB30 was only ever sold as a SOHC anyway ;-)
I'm
You're?
It is RB30DET you idiot
you obvesly dont know your rbs as this is clearly an rb30e+T which is single cam "DET" Stands for Dual overhead cam, Electronic fuel injection, Turbo
The glow on that exhaust is mesmerizing
i love the sound of the turbo spooling back down all at once, its like awe man i was just getting started.
It's cool watching the intercooler get moved around when it gets into high boost
I think this shows how important intercooler technology is, as it will both improve power and potentially lower the exhaust temps at the same time. Can't imagine those manifolds holding together for 50+ passes.
Danger to manifold!

Here is a perfect example of Japanese quality and engineering. 3L engine making 1200hp, while in usa, they need 5L and 8 cylinders to make to make 800hp.
wrong. with that they can make about 3000hp
True, however with the amount of boost this particular engine is producing I can almost guarantee that it has all aftermarket forged internals and it also will be rebuilt on the regular.
Brett Sharbono what's your definition of "easily achievable"? because I want you to show me a v8 that makes 1500 hp on pump gas. odds are it has every internal piece replaced with a forged unit.
94eh3 Sloppy Mechanics. Engine Masters. Both have made 1k HP on stock bottom end LS Motors. On pump gas.
94eh3 and even then this motor isn’t even on pump gas so idk why you decided to throw that in there lol. This is run on almost purely ethanol. This engine on pump gas might make 800.

Flutter at deceleration is not the kind of compressor/turbo surge that damages shaft bearings, and motors. True compressor surge happens at peak power. When the turbo produces more air flow than the motor can swallow, the turbine stalls and compression suddenly flows backwards out cold air intake. Once the pressure drops, the turbo is able to grip the air again, boost quickly develops, and the turbo stall again. Because compressed air is elastic, this sudden stall and recovery cycle sends powerful reverberation through the entire intake, engine, and exhaust system. This is what causes damage.
At deceleration, the throttle body is closed and the pressure reverb is isolated to I/C and plumbing. Although this is hard on the turbo, it's not life threatening because the backlash is minimized and pressure falls off quickly.
Here is an example of the dangerous kind of surge.

Best regards to all.
Datsun510zen someone finally fucking said it, ive been saying this for years. Armchair tuners take note.

Look on tube for Renault/Honda F-1 enginedyno tests and the low revs on this Nissan will be mundane.
Now opining a tune from my generation....Cue music: "Wild Cherry" And yes Charles I am a white boy. Only as old as I feel!
Years ago a mate of mine had a Toyota T-18 with a crazy aftermarket turbo setup, we used to wind the boost up to 25 psi, take it for a mad blast, stop at the top of a hill, leap out and lift the bonnet and light our cigarettes from the turbo housing. I kid you not, we really did that. The exhaust manifold and turbo housing got red hot.
My heart races so fast when boost kicks in
How the fuck are those worm clamps holding to 50psi
Magic.
+v8consumption Because they not worm clamps, which good to 15 psi, they are called t-bolt clamps and at 50 PSI they at the upper limit, Good to 55PSI, any more and have to double them all up.
hommie789
no a few are worm clamps. and a few are fully supported t clamps
Because they are good ones that are threaded. Those can hold 65+ that's what they use on drag cars when they're too cheap for t bolts

Thats one Big Ass Turbo but yeah Turbolagg ::)
+Max Bepunkt If you had installed an electric motor (not a dinky fan from eBay but a motor with real power) to spool up the turbo faster initially you would therefore eliminate the lag. This has been done by Volvo in their triple turbo charged 2L engine. (Which is not on the market though, does crank out 400+ HP with no turbo lag)
+Max Bepunkt In a drag car the lag isn't a issue as you are building boost before you launch.
+DriftNick b'coz drag car racers already push the throttle half the way before the green light shows on the track.
+Keyur Monpara no because we have antilag and 2step

It speaks horses, Nice Engine!
I'm extremely curious to how this engine was built. I know you can convert the RB26 to RB28 with a upgraded stroker kit. But i'm unsure if that same thing applies to this.
+NFS Realistic The RB30 was an engine that Nissan made for holden. It came in the VL commodores. A common modificatation in NZ and Aus is to take the RB30 bottom end and combine it with the higher flowing heads from the RB25 and 26

That sounds awesome 👍👍
Best sound ever.
Those poor turbo bearings .. :(
It would also be intresting to keep the engine under this load for a several minutes.. like 10mins? For temperature stability checks it need to run nearly a hour on fully load, or is this engine just for drag racing ?!
Bruce Carbon Lakeriver Yes for the drags but a street car too, so no way its ever going to see continuous load.
If I consider my driven routs through germany I had continious loads. If you initiate the cruise control above 250km/h you'll have generally a high load, even it wouldn't be the peak power of this awesome engine ;) -- I hope it will keep running for a long time :D -- safe roads for you :D
Bruce Carbon Lakeriver Temp stability checks run an engine in a room for an hour at full load pushing 50 pounds of boost with little to no air flow for cooling? How many motors have you built - none?
honda12345678 At first I am using metric units and none of those irrational imperial units; second, how did you come to the magic number of .. a hour? And third, from where could you know how many engines I might have built? Magic crystal ball ? And 4th I did ask about for the requirements, so Fullboost answered that, thx for that at this time - and therefore the point is done!
Bruce Carbon Lakeriver For what reason? Who is going to be driving under full load on a street for several minutes? If it's a 1/2 mile, hopefully it won't be more than 10 seconds. So wh put the motor under that amount of stress. The true test is to see how many pulls it will handle and stay in one piece like how it's being done now.
Nissan has really a Great engine power 👍👍
Sounds like it's about to blow up
Its funny seeing 50psi in a tiny straight 6 making 1,200Hp.
50Psi in a 500ci hemi nets 10,000 horsepower
sounds turbo suffering without Blow off valve ....

That turbo flutter 💓
Ohhh my god, i'm falling in love
Veyron: +1000Hp, 8L 16 cylinder. Skyline: +1200Hp, 3L 6 cylinder...
Where is this world going to!?
The veyrons engine doesnt have the technology thats exerted in this one. That and this has been tuned extensively (Not sure what they did exactly)
They installed a big ass turbo ? ^
im sure they have modified something internally but yes the turbo has a big impact on power
Whilst the comments above me are very relevant, do keep in mind the veyron ALSO has turbo, 4 of them infact, and it does have the technology. This engine wouldn't be quite as reliable as a veyron engine but yes it has some serious modifications done, fully forged RB30 sounds about right to me. And the veyron is more of a cruisy car than it is quick, if you want quick go for the Koenigsegg one:1, a hp for every kg of weight ;)
This man knows his cars ^
how many times can you rev up that engine like that before it blows the fuck up... or at least blows a head gasket or destroys a piston or ring...
Not many... i assure you. Pushing that much power through a 3 liter with a factory cast block and head...
Wrong. Guys are getting a couple years of racing out of these.
Couple of years for all that money and time, what a waste
Bullshit... not at this power level.
+Marek Sumguy Really? And whats your knowledge based in? If you were involved in the community and work on the cars maybe you'd understand its not that uncommon. Most get a light freshen up at the end of a season, shit even the 1320video of the 1300hp r32 he talks about running the same bottom end on 55psi since 2015 but hey since you know better.
Brutal power !
Awesome Engine Sound Awesome Blow Off
What I wanna know is, how the fuck did the hose clamps on the couplers hold 50psi?! mine wouldnt even hold 12psi on an IHI RHB5 haha.
Can someone explain me why someone that builds a turbo engine like that would run no BOV like that? I know some won't handle 50psi because they will just explode, other won't stay shut and create a boost leak, but some blow off valves can be adjusted with a spring to avoid that, even with that much boost. I just don't understand why they rather destroy a 2000$ turbo instead of a 300$ blow off valve. If someone can answer, that would be great!
+Justin Larrivée .
Many go on about the 'damage' that will be caused without a BOV, but is this from first hand experience or others just saying it will cause damage...?
I've seen countless RB30s without BOVs on the street for YEARS getting thrashed. The turbos have never had any problems and they were always running a decent boost level (20+psi). These were mainly bush bearing turbos. My current car has a BOV as it came with it, but previous cars never had them.
+Fullboost maybe, I just though turbo flutter like that was destroying turbos, am I right? just want to know, I'm curious
+Fullboost I'm mechanically inclined but I'm not an expert neither. I heard about compressor surge and the air going back into the turbo couldn't be good
+Justin Larrivée 'destroying' turbos, I'd like to see some fact a about that, is this based over 10,000kms, 200,000kms?
+Fullboost I have no idea, this is why I'm asking, I'll have more accurate answers from people that knows more than me.
Looks like the back 2 cly are just a little lean the other 4 are on the $ ( watch the back 2 glow first .every pull ).. great job guys. Amazing peace of art...
that first blow of valve sound tho!!
Install a Trust Type-R BOV and save that engine.
+Randy Randerson
Thanks we'll let them know :)
Plus the Type-R BOV sounds amazing :-D
After listening to that, I doubt that Supra is using a blow valve.
Why put on a BOV?
Andrew Mulligan helps the turbo last longer and can control the boost better
Need that blow off valve
There is no BOV.
That is what I am implying.
MrSkillfullyDone
Oh, sorry, I misread that.
the sound of the air pressure surging when the throttle is snapped shut and the turbo has nowhere to push the air. the air tries to escape back out the turbo making a whistle/flutter sound at the same time
Malachi Stephenson dude so much stutututu its bad for the turbo😂
That Turbo surge!!!
Almost blew through the pipes... Glowing red holy crap
The first pass i thought that was turbo surge...
and it is haha
+jorge ery, and its not
jorge ery you're quite wrong. That's the blowoff valve not exhausting enough pressure
+_Husky, what blow off valve? But yes a blow off valve not exhausting enough will cause it
scootbmx01 A BOV is installed on this setup, as well as all other FullBoost builds. You can hear it exhausting as much as it could
That's not blow off, it's turbo surge. VERY VERY BAD
It's the bov if it was turbo surge they would have fixed it.
***** turbo surge that they eliminate for turbo longevity is when on throttle. This reversion you hear when the throttle is shut is not damaging to performance or longevity
Lynel Simpson They can limit total boost for drive pressure reason, but when the fuel and throttle and turned off the shutter you hear in the video is TERRIBLE for bearings and can even snap shafts. THAT IS BAD FOR LONGEVITY get a clue good lord..
Not true, the reversion that happens after the throttle is closed is negligible to longevity. Surge under boost is most definitely terrible, but not in this case.
Listen to most of the newer diesel trucks, they have massive reversion stock from the factory without a blow off valve. The main reason a bov is used is to keep the compressor speeds up in between gears by not having it push against the throttle plate causing it to slow down quickly.
That makes sense to help keep the turbine speeds up during shifting, however "reversion" is most definitely "harder" on a chargers shaft and bearings than if it were to not do any "reversion" at all. BTW: Most new trucks have almost ZERO reversion from the factory. The only way to get any kind of reversion out of them is to basically do a burnout, and let off suddenly. Under most normal driving conditions you'll never hear anything, their compressor wheels arent big enough, and the exhaust side A/R is too tight
gotta love the vl dose
The flutter isn't even my favorite part of the turbo sound, it's the spooling, because I like to imagine how much air is being pulled through the turbine
