Considering how big a horse's bladder is--that's a lot of urine to discard! Typical horse pees twice daily, up to 4L at a time. (Not as much as an elephant, tho!!!)
Ahahaha. I love how the guard leaned forward, to help facilitate the peeing by taking weight off the kidneys. I used to do that for my horse too. Hahaha. This was adorable.
Wish I knew this when I took riding lessons! (It was so embarassing for me--the bridle trail crossed over a paddle-boat pond.)
By standing in your stirrups when your horse is preparing to urinate, and not sitting again until the horse is once again standing in balance, you accomplish three things.
One: You make it physically easier for the horse to move in and out of the necessary position.
Two: You make it psychologically easier for the horse to urinate - your actions are saying, in effect, "Go ahead, take the time you need."
Three: You reinforce your own good horseman's habit of thinking of what is right, good, and comfortable for your horse. ;-)
So even though standing in your stirrups has nothing to do with the urinary system of the horse, and doesn't protect the horse's kidneys, it's still a good practice.
Poor horse has obviously been holding on for ages !

OMG, Makes me feel like a little kid to think peeing is so funny. With him leaning forward it looks like he is also relieving himself. The usually hardcore guard, try as he might, can't completely suppress his smile.

The horse's expression is what got to me it's as bad as my dog's one of total concentration then it's back to business (My dogs is to try and catch the pigeon that was watching her)
