  • The Rollei 35 is the most unique 35mm film camera I've used. Perfect for street photography, travel, and daily use because of its compact size and light weight. But for such a small camera, image quality isn't sacrificed at all. The Zeiss Tessar 3.5 lens is fantastic and you can use all of your favorite film stocks that you'd use with any of your pro cameras as well. And for me, a 40mm focal length is perfect for all around versatile use.

Awesome review man, I'm blown away at your photos you took with it. Really nice pics. As a FujiFilm X100V owner, all I can say is this is the first and last film camera I want to try get my hands on. Such an amazing piece of engineering. They should totally re-release it again. Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa.

I currently have 3 working Rollei 35 cameras, two originals with the Tessar lens and one 35S with the Sonnar lens. I also have one S and a B that need repairing. I bought my first Rollei 35 in the late 60s and have had at least one ever since. Great EDC cameras!

I happen to be the happy owner of both the beautiful Rollei 35 and the Minox 35, and without a doubt, the Minox is clearly smaller than the Rollei and to my understanding considered the smallest production 35 mm camera in the world. But thanks for sharing your expeirence using it as a street photography camera. I was amazed by the clarity of the colours and the sharpness of the lens, and I will cherish it as a little gem when looking at it. It takes some getting used to i practise, and I will probably not shoot many rolls with it, whereas my Leica M3 is so intuitive and just ergonomically accomplished.

I’ve been looking for a mint condition Rollei 35, it has to be one of the coolest 35mm cameras ever. Beautiful images, congrats. 🍾

I recommend KEH.com. That's where I bought mine. It had problems with its focus plane calibration so I sent it back and they replaced it no charge. Good folks, great shop!

I bought a black mint made in Germany 35S from a Canadian Leica store several years ago on eBay. I paid a premium price, but the camera is a beauty.

It's not the smallest 35mm camera in the world; various versions of the Minox 35 are much smaller. Although the Minolta TC-1 takes the prize at 99mm X 61mm.

Looks like google says the Rollei is 97mm x 60mm and the Minox is 100mm x 61mm. I'm sure there's something out there that beats the Rollei, but suffice to say, I'm not too concerned with semantics when it's down to the millimeter. Moral of the story, they're all very small, haha.

Google should have another number for size L x W x H Minoxs are 31 while Rollie are 50 mm

As soon as I saw this I was all, "The box my Minox 35 came in is smaller than that camera"
The Minox 35, it doesn't matter what you found on Google, is substantially smaller than that Rollei.
Like, way smaller. It was built in East Germany to take Mercury batteries so when I ran my first roll of film through it the light meter was way off and everything was o-o-o-over exposed.
If you like that Rollei you should find yourself a Minox. You'll love it!

How’d you fix the over exposing issue?

The smallest *one* is for real in 35mm terms the Minolta TC-1 from 1996.

Canon can show counter while rewind? I had so many camera and non of them show that. Every single one was reset. Even on my Leica and Nikon SP. Nice camera but still not rangefinder :/ But about Rollei, i have my since awhile and it is really cool camera :3

Interesting, I didn't realize a rewind counter was a special feature to have. Makes me like my AE-1 even more now! haha

Some 35mm cameras like Canon show counter while rewinding, one of the intended purposes of this is to do double exposure.

Do you have a lens cap for your yellow filter? What size and where did you find it? Thanks for sharing your experience.
